A glut and an ensuing slump in standards was bound to happen to the web series in India. After hitting high notes with "Rangbaaz", "The Final Call" and even the excessively gruesome "Abhay", ZEE5 touches rockbottom with this ridiculous crime drama set in what cinema has always considered the den of drugs and crime: Goa.
This time, though, Goa can breathe a sigh of relief. The shallow shenanigans of the rich are so cultural-unspecific they could be happening anywhere. Or rather they shouldn't happen anywhere.
Sample this: the talented Tanuj Virmani playing a jail convict who returns to seek vendetta (a bit like a buttoned-down version of Shah Rukh Khan's "Baazigar") befriends two sisters of a police officer, takes them to the movies, kisses one and feels up the other on both sides of his seat.
To say "Poison" lacks finesse would be a gross understatement. This is nothing...

Ever since global streaming giants Amazon Prime Video and Netflix entered the Indian Ott space in 2016, the conversation around original series has mostly revolved around them, thanks in part to market leader 21st Century Fox’s Hotstar’s circumspect attitude at the time about producing content.
Netflix had great success with “Sacred Games,” while Amazon rode on “Inside Edge,” “Breathe,” “Mirzapur” and the recent “Made in Heaven,” and the U.S. majors also announced several other commissions.
Cut to 2019 where the scenario for homegrown Indian OTTs is vastly different and there is a glut in originals production. Hotstar, with 150 million monthly active Indian users, scored a slam-dunk in January, announcing a slew of A-listers signed up to create content, including Shekhar Kapur (“Elizabeth: The Golden Age”), Neeraj Pandey (“M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story”) and Kabir Khan (“Tubelight”). The first of the new original commissions include local remakes of hit franchises “The Office,...

National award-winning actor-producer Arjun Rampal, who will soon to be seen in the upcoming web series titled The Final Call, says since he was a supermodel before entering Bollywood, initially filmmakers cast him in characters keeping only his "good looks" in mind. Talking about his career graph that has changed since 2008 with Rock On!, Arjun said, "At the start of my career, filmmakers had a limited vision of me, perhaps that is why I only got to play a millionaire or a boyfriend in a love triangle. Back in 2000, we were not working on bound scripts the way we are doing it today. Therefore, as an actor, I never got a chance to work on my characters which I started doing with films like Rock On!, The Last Lear, Inkaar and so on."
