Suitable for action and martial arts movie lovers. Good production. Simple plot. An enraged brave single woman comes to the rescue of her kidnapped daughter. Lots of action and fights stuff do not look for something else deeper in this story

"I might be in the wrong place...but you took the wrong kid." This Vietnamese film has a lot going for it. I only recognized a couple of actors...plus the plot and story were meh at best. What I loved was he reason I bought the film...the fight scenes! Veronica Ngo shines as a mama bear you should not have messed with. It was basically "Taken" with better stunts. I am looking forward to seeing more Ngo action films very soon!

You sometimes do wonder: Why me? Is it Karma? Could the lead character here be having issues because of what she once was? Also does that not also help her solving those problems? Maybe, but having a kid taken away from you is quite harrowing to say the least.

It's been a while since we got another raid/taken type movie so I guess my jubilation at watching this film trailer was no surprise however after watching the movie I have to say the reason I couldn't come around to giving this movie an 8 rating is the fact the pacing was a bit off none the less great acting super action and another hit for all action martial arts movie fans

FURIE is a straightforward martial arts flick from Vietnam, one with more storytelling than you'd expect. It follows a familiar format, similar to that seen in TAKEN, THE MAN FROM NOWHERE and KIDNAP, in which a mother sees her daughter kidnapped in front of her and goes to hell and back to rescue her. The main actress is comfortable in both the fights and the acting stakes, coming across as both skilled and sympathetic, while the cinematography is a strong point here: the colours have a real richness and the locations, particularly the rural ones, are very well shot. In terms of action, there's a fine sequence early on which begins with a market brawl and moves on to motorbike chase, very skilfully done. Later, the action moves to a city and a train and becomes more predictable and CGI-enhanced, but always remains watchable and enjoyable throughout.

I've become so tired of the Hollywood hype, the perfect American Dream always being pushed in American films. I've been watching a lot of foreign films lately and have to say that this was one of the really good ones. I absolutely enjoyed the action and the difficult livestyle depicted was much more relatable. Human trafficking is a huge problem and it's good to have movies that bring attention to the pure horror of it all. I will certainly be looking out for more Vietnamese films. Thank you from South Africa.

If you liked "Taken" movies starring Liam Neeson then you might like this one. There have been movies this before among those are "The Man of Nowhere" , "Safe", "Commando", "Six bullets" , "Man on fire". In "Furie" Hai Phuong (Ngô Thanh Vân), is an ex-gangster who is estranged from her family after her father disowns her for having an affair with a gangster and getting involved with criminal activity. Now working as a debt collector, and barely supports her daughter or herself. As you have guessed her daughter then gets kidnap. Now she wouldn't stop at anything to get her daughter back. What makes this one different from others is that it is a martial arts movie with a female protagonist.

This is "Taken" - Vietnamese version with lots of awesome action packs played by one lead attress NGo Thanh Van. It made me could not take my eyes off any seconds. Together with other great cast and easy plot but yet touching, Furie is indeed one hell of a Hollywood quality action movie that can't be missed

This was my first Vietnamese movie. I've been watching a lot of mystery movies, decided to watch something different. Furie, didn't disappoint. I really enjoyed the martial-arts sequences, seemed more realistic that I thought they would. It's easy to make an action movie about a ripped dude beating people senseless, i'm glad this movie didn't take the easy way out.
Hai Phuong's circumstances make her a gangster but she leaves that life behind to raise her daughter by herself. The kid is kidnapped and Hai is forced to go back to her gangster roots to save her child.
The story isn't any different from the umpteen similar movies you'd have seen but I don't know if you'd have watched a Vietnamese movie. If you're into watching action movies and like watching fights, check this out. I'll have to admit, from all the international movies I have watched so far, this one was the toughest to follow language-wise, even with subtitles, maybe the dialogue delivery was too fast in this particular movie, dunno. But you'll get a hang of speed before all the action starts! Check it out.

Started off well, loved the main kick-ass female character but the movie just descended from the initial promise into chop-suey formulaic drivel. Fight scenes were really poor when we should be getting THE RAID style choreography, story was naff and lead nowhere and the main characters were about as scary as my auntie nellie!
Bit of a load of old pants but of course the usual shills are bigging it up as though its a major Bruce Lee epic. Less than average 4/10 from me this time!

Super cool fight. She's also not completely invulnerable to getting knocked around a bit. It's a lot more realistic than most more feminist female led action films. It's one of the many things that make this movie work so well for me. I hate when action heroes can just take hit after hit and not struggle at all. That last part is probably the most awesome choreography I've seen in a while. Veronica Ngo She does an amazing job. She pretty much carries this film. Along side whoever choreographed the fight scenes.

I think that what impressed me after watching so many 90s action flicks was the realism. Every blow and decision was judged and very much felt. When she was climbing the outside of the train, you could see that caution in her movements. The argument before her daughter's abduction was very real. I could see all of that happening.
Also, the action scenes were marvelous. To those reviewers that said the actress looked to frail to take all those hits, go take a long jump into some deep water and don't come back.

I had no idea what I was in for when I sat down to watch "Furie" (aka "Hai Phuong"). All I knew about the movie was that it was an action movie of sorts and that it was Vietnamese. I do like Asian movies quite a lot, and I haven't really seen any Vietnamese movies, so I was kind of interested in this movie.
And now that I've seen it, let me just state that "Hai Phuong" definitely puts Vietnam on the action map of movies. This movie came out of nowhere and took me completely by surprise.
The storyline in "Furie" was adequate. A bit on the cheesy side, but hey, this definitely felt like an action movie from the glorious 1990s. But it was the martial arts scenes that really blindsided me and took me completely by surprise. Van Veronica Ngo definitely is someone to keep an eye on if you are interested in martial arts; so much potential here. The martial arts scenes were simply amazingly choreographed and executed, and it looked very real and very hard-hitting. Count me a fan!
This turned out to be wholesome entertainment in terms of action and storyline, a good combination that worked out well enough, despite the cheesy aspect to the storyline.
My rating of "Furie" is a well-deserved six out of ten stars. If you find yourself with the chance to sit down and watch this movie, you should. Especially if you enjoy a good martial arts movie.

Ok, I actually liked this show up to the part where she was drowning... it doesn't take long to drown and she was chained, yet the cops found her?? C'mon!!
Other than some plot holes, I was pleasantly surprised with the acting and fighting!!

This Vietnamese action thriller is centred on young mother, and former gangster, Hai Phuong, she uses her martial arts skills to work as a debt collector in a rural area. Her job and single status leads to her daughter, Mai, being picked on. One day Mai is snatched by gangsters and although Hai gives chase she can't keep up. She learns that they were heading to Saigon so heads there herself. Once there she sets about trying to find Mai; her sense of urgency is increased when she learns that the police are investigating gangsters who are kidnapping children for their organs. Her journey through the Saigon underworld will lead her into several dangerous situations before she can finally confront the kidnappers.
When I started watching this I didn't really know what to expect; I had never seen a Vietnamese film before. If this is anything to go by I might need to seek out some more. The story is nice and simple. The opening scenes serve to introduce Hai and her daughter and after the kidnap the action rarely lets up for long. There are numerous fight scenes where Hai uses local martial art Vovinam to take on various ne'er-do-wells. These fight scenes are exciting and well-choreographed; they are also fairly bone-crunching as our heroine gets battered and bruised. Surprisingly she doesn't always win and is lucky to survive occasionally. The cast is solid; Veronica Ngo really impresses as Hai, I imagine we'll be seeing more of her in future films; Cát Vy is likeable and not overly precocious as Mai and Phan Thanh Nhiên is good as Captain Luong, the officer leading the hunt for the traffickers. The settings are impressive with the early rural scenes contrasting nicely with the bustle of Saigon. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to fans of martial arts looking for something from somewhere new.

I feel like the ending was a bit lacking. It would have benefited if they had saved the fight with Thanh Wolf for last. I also felt like her daughter was way too cheerful at the end after having just been been kidnapped and almost having her organs harvested.
BUT
It was shot very well with good lighting, I was surprised at the quality of the film coming from Vietnam. The action scenes looked very well choreographed and looked awesome as well. And Veronica Ngo's acting was fantastic. She brought a level of sincerity to this character, she genuinely felt like a panicked mother trying desperately to save her child.
Considering what they have to work with, I think this was a step forward for Vietnam, and it inspired me to look at more Vietnamese movies.

I really enjoy action movies coming out of Asia, so when the Asian action movie "Furie" popped up on Netflix, I wanted to see it, especially since I hadn't seen a Vietnamese movie before. While I did enjoy the movie enough that I'm glad I saw it, at the same time I don't think the movie reached its full potential. Clearly inspired by the movie "Taken" (though giving it enough changes and twists to prevent it from being labelled a blatant rip-off) he movie is generally well produced on what was a low budget. The movie doesn't have any real lulls, and sprinkled throughout were some decent action sequences. However, I don't think most of the action sequences reached their full potential. The main reason for this is that at least in this movie, actress Van Veronica Ngo seems a bit too lightweight for the role and its demands. She does throw herself completely in the role, but all the same I didn't believe that her kicks and punches really had the force that the filmmakers wanted me to believe. Also, her character takes so much punishment that I couldn't believe she could keep getting up and continuing the fight. The movie is still worth a look if you're into Asian action movies, but just don't think you'll be getting a knockout of an action movie.

As many others have written this is Taken, Vietnamese style. It is a good action flick with some solid acting. The biggest drawback for me is trying to watch an action movie while reading subtitles. Otherwise, I would have rated it higher.
