Sweet movie but...
bbydahl-260678 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First of all I must say that each individual presents alzheimer's differently. I've worked with many over the years and their families too. This is just one example of how alzheimer's may appear. I liked the storyline up until the end when the father returned home. Some things were left hanging...ie the 2 boys who found him and especially in regards to the girl who took care of him for a few days. I do feel there was a bit more that needed to be clarified at the end.

A great encounter.
zutterjp4829 March 2022
To do a movie about an alzheimers patient is quite difficult: but his story is touching because of the encounter of David and Christine: the young homeless girl helps him with all she can give: the dialogue between them is a great part of this movie. A dialogue full of tenderness and warmth.

A touching movie with very good performances of Shayla McCaffrey and Craig Lindquist.

Smaltzy!
davyd-0223726 July 2021
Sadly the americans do appear to have a bit of a problem creating a proper film which involves "an Angel". Its almost certain that one does appear in this to take care of "dad" when he finds himself outdoors and surrounded by those great americans NONE of whom are capable of spotting someone (even in very cold snowy conditions) with alzheimers! Whilst there is a couple of good performances within the film but it really doesnt quite qualify for a film with a gospel message.

A selfish family
manager-3625 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
A man with dementia wanders off. The Police say they can't do anything for 24 hours, even though he has dementia. A son tells the whole family to sleep while he goes out with a little child to search for his dad. So it's ok for a little girl to stay up late, but everyone else should sleep while the man is out in the winter without a coat, lost and hungry.

2 boys give up 2 days to search for him. In the end they find him and bring him home. But they are just ignored in the driveway - no real thank you and no reward.

The 13 year old homeless girl who took him in, providing food, clothing and warmth, is also out of the story once he's found. Her dream is to become a Nurse, and to have a family.

No chance of that with this selfish family. They can't even be bothered to go back to see who was taking care of him. So she's still homeless, no family and no future.

All in all, a movie about a selfish and thankless family.

How hard would it have been to simply thank the boys and give them a small reward, then return to the site where he was staying and find the girl? Clearly she could connect with the man and help him. So give her home, an education and improve the man's quality of life. Sad ending because of a thankless family.

Shayla McCaffrey is amazing in this!!!!
abondgirl12 September 2020
I loved this movie so much. What a heartfelt movie. Both the acting and plot were great. However, I felt that Shayla McCaffrey, the teenage girl who helped David (The father) was just amazing. She is such a beautiful, bright light. I look forward to watching more things that she is in. She just made me want to give her a big hug. Loved the dad in the movie also.

This is NOT what a person with Alzheimer's presents like
webnetca11 October 2020
Alzheimer's runs in my family so I am well-versed on what a person with Alzheimer's does, how he behaves, and what he looks like. The presentation of this person with Alzheimer's is way out of line with anything I have ever seen. I stopped watching the movie after he was diagnosed with the disease because I got so turned off with what I was seeing. The writer(s) clearly never met a person who had Alzheimer's.

Helpful story to better understand Alzheimer's.
peggysue42222 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was very sweet and enjoyable. I just wish the homeless girl would have gotten some real help in the end, as this is also a huge problem in society. Especially with so much horrific child trafficking happening. I would have given it 10 stars if she had been helped.

Mixed message
burgerman936 October 2022
So just to preface things, I'm not a Christian. So I can't really speak to how well the religious aspect is articulated. But I can attest that this was a pretty crummy movie all in all.

First off this guy had an awful family to lean on. Instead of them choosing the logical option (downsizing), let's just allow our pot smoking convicted son on house arrest, who has no prior training in dealing with adults with Alzheimer's, to be dad's full time caregiver. Well that's just a quality solution. It's also sort of clever how the two young boys on riding their bicycles in cold weather found David, while no one in the three-vehicle family search party found a thing. I guess the family wasn't grateful enough to invite those two young boys to Thanksgiving dinner.

This movie could have been solved after David tried to pick up that young girl. The father who knocked him out against the lamp post should have called the cops. Roll credits.

All jokes aside, some of the dialogue between the homeless girl and David was a bit sentimental, and the "good brother" scolding the "bad brother" was a tad funny, but I can't see how any religious (or non religious person for that matter) could get a life epiphany after watching this.

If only a real Christian attitude towards Christine were shown
imdb-david24 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was realistic, apart from the onset of Alzheimer's was a little odd. However the almost total disregard, even virtual lack of acknowledgement, of the part that the homeless girl Christine played made me grieve big time. How selfish. How unChristian. If it were me I would want to go back to where David was found (the boys knew where it was) and bring her in. After all, Thanksgiving in Canada (and I suspect the US too) is about bringing in all those who are not blessed and blessing them too. You should look for someone who is alone then - we always do - and invite them to join the celebrations. It's part of being thankful. The Christian ethic was severely absent there. The family was clearly in a position to take in this young lady - we would and we are not as well blessed. At least some of her aspirations would be met. She is such a positive person and would have blessed those who helped.

I was planning to give this a 9 or even a 10, but the response (or lack of) with the family means it immediately fell to a 5. What a pity. How sad.

Very good movie! The acting and plot were both well done. One of the best low-budget movies we've seen lately.

Really good movie-Hits home
krisz-427527 December 2020
I don't know what the other woman was going on about in the low review stating that this movie was NOT how they act, well she is WRONG because every person that has alzheimer's acts differently from the other person.

I have a family member that has a bad temper, and has this condition setting in as well as dementia causing confusion. So this movie is very well acted out as it's very close to the real thing.

Everyone's a critic
vtakro10 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was channel searching when I found this movie on TV. At first I wondered if it was some modern version of Frankenstein but as I settled into it, it hit home. I couldn't stop the tears from flowing when he came back for a blessed few minutes. It really was a miracle in itself. For those who truly understand what Alzheimer's is all about you could appreciate that moment that the family experienced. Even though I didn't watch the full movie, the gist of it was all wrapped up in that short segment. Clearly it was a low budget movie and there are probably holes in the plot as some people have suggested but I feel they did very well with what they had to work with. The message was clear. Unfortunately everyone's a critic and some people found it necessary to toot their own horn for their one moment in glory by blasting the movie to bits. Unfortunately these people are the type that miss the everyday blessing and messages that surround us each and every day. It's a sad world indeed. All in all I appreciated and liked the movie very much.

Overall well done (altho the ending left a little undone)
KiKee_5 November 2023
The story and quality was well done overall. There were a few words my child picked up on (one use each of ass, hell, and fricken) which went right past me. Some very touching moments (may want to get your tissues). The ending was a little rushed and abbreviated, and feeling incomplete. Yet the overall movie was well done in both quality, direction, and performance. The lead actor did a very good job portraying someone being enveloped in dementia/Alzheimers. Their final Thanksgiving scene together had me in tears as it reminded me of what I experienced with my own grandparent who suffered from Parkinsons. One of the supporting characters also used marijuana.
