Pretty but preposterous
phd_travel21 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The house in question is pretty. So is Samaire Armstrong as a woman recovering from a breakdown after losing her husband and son. When she goes to her parents home her brother is missing and the townspeople don't remember him. It's quite intriguing to see what happens but the explanation at the end doesn't answer how such a ridiculous scheme could be pulled off. Rob Mayes plays her bartender boyfriend who helps her. Sheriff is played by Bart Johnson.

Missable.

Surpringly good!

Had very little expectations going in, but it was better than expected! The main actress did well with her acting. Engaging, believable, heartfelt. It's a LMN so it can get a little cheesy or corny sometimes, but that just comes with the territory. I loved the mystery of it all! However, I knocked points off for the ending. While it was good, enjoyable, and unexpected with a little twist, I didn't love how the money just ENDED. I wanted to see who all was involved. Wanted to see what happened to the people who were in on it or was it just the one person? So much left unsaid and unexplored. Definitely could have wrapped up better. It's like they ran out of time and just ended the movie.

Staggeringly awful

My wife who has a talent for finding awful movies exceeded herself with this excuse of a thriller - my dogs could have created a more believable plot than the garbage served up in this excuse of a film - so bad I urge you to watch and wonder how the writer got away with this.

Atrocious
sleazerama20 May 2020
Possibly the worst written TV movie - even by LMN standards. Every small town mystery trope is trotted out. Appears to have been written in 5 minutes.

Zero points for the writer's horrible way of working 'Last House on the Left' in the script.

I didn't get it

Warning: Spoilers
Ok. So she stays in the town that was plotting with the sheriff who killed her brother and was killing anyone who got in the way of him getting rid of her. The sheriff and the town planned to get rid of all inheritors to her parents estate so the money from the estate could be distributed to the town. The sheriff claimed the parents were arrogant and gave no money to help friends, neighbors or the town. I guess he thought they were entitled to another person's wealth. Anyway, after killing the sheriff in self defense, Megan still plans to stay in the town, loan her boyfriend money to buy a bar and become his investor. How can they live happily in a town where the people resent Megan's wealth and hate her for it. She will constantly be looking over her shoulder. I don't get it. The storyline was kinda dumb. The acting was decent however. The writer did throw in a little twist in to make you think that who you know to be the perp, is not that person.

Good level of Suspense...
davyd-0223712 August 2021
For a TV movie. The opening is an oddity, as she crashes the car killing husband and son then we see her as she gets to leave the "nursing" establishment where she has been for a 4 year period. The doctor looks as though she just came from a page 3 shoot. Then "Megan" gets into her own car, not having driven for a few years and away she goes. There are only 3-4 suspects including a brother who is in and out and her relationship with a bartender. Nice for those of us old enough to see Mariette Hartley, although very briefly. Given some of the movies on "freeview" in recent days, this is worth watching albeit not the same level of acting you would get in a top notch thriller.

Completely unnecessary

Never should have been built. (Samaire Armstrong gives a decent enough performance, but that's the only positive.)

Empty Nesters
lavatch1 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
"He's Out to Get You" (a.k.a., "The House on the Hill") is a film about empty nesters. The seemingly nice old couple, Eldon and Rita Anderson, claim that with all of their children grown up, they are now alone in life just like the elderly couple of Sidney and Gladys Burkes, who lived up on the hill in the mansion atop the town of Skillman's Bluff along the Pacific coast.

But there are some deep, dark secrets that the Andersons are concealing from Megan Burke, who has arrived in town to settle her parents' substantial estate. But when her brother Gary has seemingly vanished into thin air, Megan starts to think that she is being set up by some diabolical force.

Megan Burke is psychologically frail from the time she took her eyes off the road and her husband Brian and little boy Cody perished in a car crash while on their way to a swimming hole at Lake Farrington. After being institutionalized and under the care of psychiatrist Dr. Susan Lanford for the past four years, Megan now ventures out into the world only to be made to feel that she is going mad after the disappearance of her brother.

Megan finds a support system from the local barkeep at Hubbard's, who goes by the name of "Duke." John Cavanaugh (the Duke) and Megan have instant chemistry. Clearly, something is amiss with the local Sheriff Brunson in Skillman's Bluff. Another shady figure is Nancy Allendale, the attorney settling the Burkes' estate, who seems a little too slick and deceptive. Clearly, something is wrong when both the sheriff and the attorney pretend that they never knew that Megan had a brother.

The quick-thinking Duke takes Megan to the local high school, where they locate an old yearbook with a picture of 'Ol Number 84, Gary Burke! This discovery leads Megan to the nice schoolteacher, Miss Ellen Snow. After Miss Snow is suffocated to death in her own home, Sheriff Brunson attempts to pin the blame on Megan, who had just visited the kind woman.

The action comes to a head in, of all places, a trailer owned by the Duke. In the climactic showdown, Gary's decaying body is discovered by Megan in the trailer. Is the Duke at the center of the plot to make her mad? Who is the ringleader? And how many people are involved in a conspiracy to swindle and destroy a vulnerable, damaged young woman? All cards will be placed on the table in the shootout at the trailer.

This movie is stupid
kzngnckwf19 August 2021
I watched this movie with my mom and my sister and let me tell you, we had a good laugh cuz of how stupid and cheap the movie is. LIKE WHO CLEANS A BULLET WOUND THROUGH A SHIRT. The plot is nice but the acting is absolutely terrible. 1 star cuz it made me laugh, 2 stars cuz it made me cry and 3 stars for effort even though it could've been better.

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the worst lifetime movies I have seen. The acting is terrible & story predictable. A better cast may have saved it but they went bottom of the barrel on the lead. The cop is kinda cute though

Ticks along in typical TV movie fashion. Okay acting, weak cinematography. And then, suddenly, the ridiculous plot is revealed in all it's nonsense and the film ends. Huh.

Good enough
sharahill21 July 2021
Not sure what people expect from these types of movies, so for this made for tv genre this wasn't badly filmed at all, I also think the acting was way better than most. I certainly enjoyed enough to even watch again if it was on.
