I was confused at first because of imdb rating but but it was actually good series.
hiralpatel-427524 October 2019
The people who rated it low i don't think that they got the point of dystopian future it is a community or society that is undesirable or frightening. And I think in near future there will be peace cause their are so many people who can get easily manipulated on the things like religion or different ideology. It's not about anti hindu or anti muslim it's the reality of people who are blinded by the false beliefs of their community. And about the people who gave bad review they didn't even watch the whole 1st episode on what basis u are judging the series. Maybe the base story is similar to handmaid's tale. I gave it 9 cause bollywood can try something new rather then commercial masala.

Just trying to balance the biased rating .
galhoushan18 June 2019
Either a lot of hindus are getting but hurt from a clearly mentioned "Work of Fiction" or BJP it cell members are spamming like Twitter .

Leila has excellent story line , nicely executed even though I felt CGI could have been better but the performance of actors definitely overshadows the flaws .

Interesting Concept. Poor execution.
alokereddevil17 June 2019
Leila starts off promising but derails quickly with narration that is monotonous and a script that has no surprises. Handmaid's Tale used a lot of flashbacks to show how society changed. This is not the case in Leila and it seems like watching a show after you have missed previous episodes.

The cast is good and acting is decent but not enough to lift the script. Setting the show far off in the future where people still use more or less the same technology makes no sense either.

Brave attempt by Netflix to produce Leila despite knowing the content would be branded propaganda and might cause controversy. I guess they hoped at least this would create controversy and lead to viewership but that hasn't been the case.

Don't waste your time - Connection in story and too imaginative
naveencontact15 June 2019
First, what a pathetic direction and script. Just showing imaginative story they left no turn to show ugly side of people, this is so wrong because people could model this behaviors. Actors are also not good, Sid, Rahul is pathetic, I would have expected more out of them.

Wasted my time watching this, movies are better than these serials.

Amazing show to watch
RustyRogue20 June 2019
The numbers of 1 star rating here is only because it contradict their belief, watch it as a part of fiction! Nowhere in the show any religion was degraded, Infact Protagonist "Shalini" second protagonist "Bhanu" and their team members have shown as Hindus.. So this show is not against any religion.. Its against the right wing ideology. Please understand Hinduism is a Religion of Peace.

Don't go for hate comments, it's a must watch show. However, the kind of hate m seeing here, we are not far away of whatever has been depicted in the show.

Offensive? Don't think so
varunantil-8149120 June 2019
The show was really good👍.. I have no idea why people are finding it so offensive. Watch the show and decide for yourself. If u consider "sacred games" 10, leila is 8.5...definitely worth a try

Lot to hate but still a brave effort
myjunkemailid19 June 2019
First off...Kudos to the makers to imagine the first Indian dystopian drama. Congratulations. Hope better and more stories come after this from other creators. Now as pointed out by other reviewers, it is pretty depressing to watch earlier on. Especially episodes 1-3. Later it just becomes plain boring. The character arch remain plateued. The writing becomes lazy. Too many coincidences, too many lucky breaks and finally a Siddharth who probably does the most monochromatic, boring and poorly written role of his lifetime. It's unclear what his motivations are, dialogues are confusing and poorly written (probably by a non native hindi speaker) and then he just becomes annoying after sometime. I think Netflix india needs to write better cop roles- After sartaj from sacred games who seemed to get caught everywhere, Bhanu played by Siddharth is just plain bore. Huma qureshi acts well and sinks into the role but gets little support from the screenplay. Plots become convenient and she catches one lucky break after another which is so hard to believe. Some people say that it's anti-hindu and xenophobic. While I can see why some people would perceive that , I don't believe that the makers had any ulterior motive behind this. I would commend them for creating this while being well aware that they will face criticism. I hope given the low ratings, it would not deter other filmmakers to explore this genre. We should celebrate this series as a kickoff rather than dumping it by imposing our political judgement. It's good for the arts to create conversation which I think this series has surely succeeded in.

It is a case study in the psychology of conformism and fascism. It explores themes of women in subjugation in a patriarchal society.
Fella_shibby15 June 2019
It is a dystopian drama/thriller series directed by Deepa Mehta. The series is about a mother who tries to find her missing daughter. It explores themes of women in subjugation in a patriarchal society.

The totalitarian rule where communities in districts are seperated into ghetto-ed areas in accordance to their caste, religion and income is portrayed awesomely. The series is tensed as The Forgotten (2004) n Flightplan. Disturbing n thought provoking as V for Vendetta.

Huma Qureshi's acting is weak but Siddharth gave a lovely performance n Zakaria is outstanding as the creepy godman.

The series deserves an 8 but I am generous with 10 cos of the fake one line reviews written by the same people who follow rapists n fascists godmen like Asaram Bapu, Osho, etc.

I cannot believe all this is coming true step-by-step
najamnajam19 December 2019
Watched this series around a month back and thought that the creators were a bit paranoid in painting a Nazi image of Future India. But saw the CAA protests and the reaction of the government and I am totally convinced that it was in no way an exaggeration of anything that could happen. We may as well be heading towards an autocratic regime. Great series and gives an insight into something that we should work to avoid at any cost. Jai Hind.

Scary.... Felt like that's going to be the future. A bold attempt on culture and sometimes it seems it is bashing one specific religion but good attempt

IGNORE FAKE REVIEWS. They are trolls and IT Bots.

Show is great. Deep. Moving. Brave. Important.

People are saying, it's a propoganda movie. I saw the whole series. I didn't find a single instance of that. It was great.

Kudos to Deepa Mehta and Netflix.

Nice work! Ignore fools who don't understand dystopia
kaustubh0919 June 2019
Dystopia is new to Indian audience. And dystopian fiction was written for much less in the west. Art needs to keep check on politics when all else is failing. Visuals could have been better. But writing and acting are top notch. Must watch if you happen to possess a mind of your own.

Definitely deserves a watch. An appreciable protrayal of a dystopian world.
paulpriyanka-939896 July 2019
A world where your voice is muted, your life directed by someone else, your choice is a fictional fantasy and even your very birth a matter of virtue and vice, can you survive?Leila forces you to ask this very question and intrigues you about a fictional world full of hate, vengeance and power for the conventional supreme. The effective subplots to support the main plot, the acts by the protagonists touching the quintessential best and the cinematography capturing the dystopia with attention to details rewards Leila with the deserving attention and irritation from the viewer. Although practicality lost sight a few times, it still deliveries well to make us scowl at the cliffhanger at the end while also making us await a season 2 sometime before 2047.

A must watch
alojesufemi-0685618 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Simply superb, for a concept similar to handmaid's tale, it sets itself apart. Before I watched the show I read the reviews and got a little bit discouraged, but after watching it, I gotta ask, where is this negativity coming from? The attention to detail was impressive, the direction too, Huma Qureshi's performance was a highlight, the cinematography, simply superb, the feeling of suffocation the protagonist felt still gives me chills. It made comments on issues like global warming(black water falling from the sky), patriarchy(women subjugated to correction camps), religious and political hypocrisy( a political leader listening to a person's poet he is not supposed to listen to, a Muslim man betraying his brother because he believed he was going astray). Like seriously, how I'm I seeing Negative reviews, it's either you've never watched or pr you are just plain bias in your judgment, and if its religion, Islam has being directly portrayed as a religion of chaos for a long time, at least a more extreme and Negative spoof of a religion should not receive these much backlash;seriously, handmaids tale spoofed christianity and everyone was cool with it. But seriously this show is good and an unmissable one at best.

Slow to begin with... but gripping
asifnisar-8792726 June 2019
I started without much expectation. And yes... it was a labor to go through the first few episodes. Too many shades of Haidmaid's Tale. However things picked up, and I enjoyed the show.

To those, who didn't like it for other than artistic reasons... All I can say is that it is set in a futuristic scenario, so lets take it like a make believe world. Hollywood does it all the time. Let a work of fiction be all that... just a work of fiction.

Huma Qureshi... I am a fan. I shall be looking forward to Season 2

Waste of Time and money
sachinsawhney15 June 2019
Totally trash, poor direction and the script does not move. Could not even finish the 1st episode. The direction is so bad that it does not even convey as to where the serial is going to move with same thing going on and on.

I like Huma when I saw her with ayushmaan , mitti di khushbu aayi. Later I keep watching her movie ,this is such a waste and propaganda series I ever watched . Also u can see in real life she does the same things which is propoganda. Well I am not here to judge person but the content is not up to the mark. Didn't expected this from Netflix ,I am sure they will come up with better and best I am considering this as piece of waste by mistaken got created. No story at all
