Adorable!
ihavethat45-123 December 2018
I love this movie. It's a simple Snow White story set at Christmas time. The characters are cute, the budget is low, the sweaters are fabulous, and I want to stay at the Motor Lodge for a month to wind down, too! A mug of Snow's hot chocolate with one of her candied apples, while crafting and jamming to the Holly Jolly's is the way to do it!

Sickly sweet
juliewllsn8 November 2020
Cant hear what the actors are saying for the Christmas music which is far too loud and drowns out the dialogue. The film wasn't that good either very cheesy.

I am the score and I'll tell you how to feel!!!!

The incidental music is so loud it blocks the actors talking, which isn't such a bad thing. It literally scores each word so, if you haven't picked an emotion up from the melodramatic acting, there's no ambiguity. However...it is a pantomime style Christmas romp: over acted, light on decent script, predictable ending but eminently watchable (maybe with subtitles)

Hilariously Bad
musicalfreakgurl11 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Where should I start? It's been a while since I laughed at how horrible a movie could be. This movie was so hilariously bad. I don't know if that's the way they intended it or not. At times it seemed that way. It was a unapologetic satirical version of Disney's version with a element of realism at its expense.

Let me count the ways: 1: There was the evil stepmother who forged her stepdaughters signature, because she was a greedy witch. Evil at its best! She was one of the best parts of the movie.

2: The Prince was so over the top and cringy. He made me want to vomit. I don't know any man who could actually be this way.

3: Blanca (Snow White) was so naive that it became irritating. No one could be that dumb, right?

4: I hate love triangles. But I liked that the Hunter was included in it.

5: The wicked stepmothers assistant aka The Mirror was turned into a gay man.

6: Blanca meets the dwarves at the Inn after she's been cast with a spell. This time they aren't all little men. They're still musical though.

7: The Princes rescue...I just can't even. His Instagramming is just plain hilarious. (Yes, I will say this word quite a few times during this review.)

8: The Hunters rescue was so much more believable, thankfully. But he was just as naive as Blanca.

And the rest is as they say history or happily ever after...

Watch if you're looking for a good laugh at a fairy tales expense. While this could have been done correctly I'd has it's moments of surprise.

One of the worst-EVER
jk-692-23639420 December 2018
This is beyond dreadful. It feels like a homemade or student film. Bad sets, bad bad acting, and so cheap. On so many levels. The only people who felt even semi decent were the Holly Jollys and family friend who was a Grandmother type. I have watched about 40 Christmas movies so far this year, and this one is the winner for the absolute worst. This never should have left the shelf. Sometimes mediocre films of a genre do not seem to attract reviews. I am the first one for this one. I appreciate it when people take the time to warn me off lame and poorly made films. Also check out your reviewers profile to make sure they are not just hating on one film or they obviously worked on the film and praise it. I have been doing this for years and I tend to be generous in my wide variety of reviews. Merry Christmas!

First time to review.
kkocher61225 December 2018
My first time to review and it's not a good one. I don't have regular cable so I'm an ION watcher. This movie, of all the 'girl meets boy' Christmas movies this one is the worst. The worst.

A Snow White humbug
TheLittleSongbird15 September 2020
Love Christmas and love the 'Snow White' story, one of my favourite stories since childhood, so the concept of having elements of the story mixed with the Christmas setting really did intrigue me. Actually one of the most interesting concepts of any Christmas film seen recently, so the potential was definitely there for it to be at least above average. There are many classic Christmas films as well as some real misfires out there and was hoping that with a concept this interesting that 'A Snow White Christmas' would not be in the latter category.

Sadly to me 'A Snow White Christmas' was a catastrophic misfire in pretty much every way. Have always tried to be as kind as possible when reviewing something and am usually generous with my ratings, ratings under 5 have been less frequent. The lowest possible rating is a very rare rating for me these days, my last 1/10 was given to a 'Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders' episode way back in June. But 'A Snow White Christmas' deserves it, the worst Christmas film seen in a long time and the worst overall seen since 'Flesh Feast' with Veronica Lake. What a massive potential waste.

'A Snow White Christmas' least bad asset is the music. Even that is forgettable at best.

Everything else though ranges from bad to pretty abysmal. It is a cheap-looking film, all looking rushed and under-budget. There were instances of some films that were made in a matter of days and not on an expensive budget but still managed to be great because of the writing and acting being so good (i.e. 'Margin Call', just a brief example). The photography was drab and the editing was erratic throughout with a mix of jumping about and drawing out. Have seen better designed settings at Christmas plays.

In regard to the writing, that is one of 'A Snow White Christmas' worst done components. The amount of cheese, awkwardness and unintentional camp increasingly became really hard to take. There is too much going on in the story, it all felt far too busy with a lot of things happening but pretty much all of it being skimmed over and done next to nothing with. The romance is incredibly rushed and severely underdeveloped, with a major character behaviour in particular being so unrealistically abrupt and going from one extreme emotion to another (and the complete opposite) in a matter of seconds. In facts there are too many characters, too many relationships between them and any references to the 'Snow White' story are like shoehorned in throwaways rather than affectionate.

Next to none of them developed well. One knows how everything is going to map out exactly in all the relationships and one does not connect in any of them. Because there is far too little done with them, meaning a lack of emotions, and because the characters are so sketchy and little more than bland and obnoxious stereotypes they are impossible to connect with too. Lets not get started on the lifeless direction, the complete lack of charm and the far too broad acting.

Concluding, terrible. 1/10

Farcical fun!!!
Amje19749 December 2019
The bad reviewers don't get that this is a lower budget movie that is intended to be silly fun. It succeeds on many levels. So it's not on a Hollywood blockbuster level! Please learn to enjoy movies that didn't have scads of money thrown at them. This is a darling movie with some truly outstanding performances for this genre. Watch this updated version of Snow White with a Christmassy flair with or without the kids. I loved it!

Hilariously awful
Filmphilewatcher23 May 2020
The actors in this film are hilariously awful! It's obvious they were casted for no other reason than their looks. Please don't waste your time watching this.

So bad it's good
coneywithcheese24 December 2018
I think the bad acting was intentional and the cast pulled it off. You have to go into this movie expecting it to be bad. It definitely is not a Hallmark quality but it is worth the time, if you don't have anything else to do. Let it play in the background while you vacuum or iron or do the dishes. It is a watch-it-one-time movie, it will never be a classic.

So Horrible, I thought it was Pr0N at first
fidgetkitten9 December 2022
I'll admit it, I didn't make it past 15 minutes. The acting was SO horrible I thought it was p0rn at first. Actors were all hired for their looks and definitely not their acting. I usually suffer through even the worst movies or shows just because my OCD forces me to finish them, but I just could NOT stomach it any further. The step mothers acting was the worst. And her assistant, who I guess is supposed to be the mirror? I should have stopped watching in the first 5 minutes when the supposed candy store genius didn't know how to properly candy an apple. That whole first scene was so horribly cliché and it's like nobody paid any attention to the details.

Satire
Jackbv12314 November 2020
Who needs a straight version of a Snow White story in a modern setting? The TV series Once Upon a Time explored many fairy tales and fables, including Snow White, in a dramatic but straight way. This movie is not that. This movie is done to make fun, and more importantly to have fun with the Snow White legend.

From the very beginning, it's clear that this movie will be told in an exaggerated style. Over-acting is the intended norm. Even names of characters who are obvious parallels to the fairy tale are introduced in an overly dramatic fashion. "This is {slight pause} HUNTER." When we meet Victoria, Carolyn Hennesy is dripping with barely concealed evil. You know even before she deliberately drops the ornament that she has some scheme in mind. Blanca (white), the obvious Snow White, is so naïve that one reviewer questions if anyone can be that dumb. Exactly. No one is that dumb.

Everything is exaggerated, overly dramatic. It's funny.

I love that "the mirror" is an actual character in the form of Zane who uses Instagram for his intel. The vehicle that replaces the apple is creative as well. Zane's mistake is also creative, and like everything else it is so obviously contrived.

Even with the satire, Michelle Randolph and Liam McNeill have real chemistry in the traditional Christmas movie sense. I think it sizzles. Meanwhile the rival is the Prince, Lucas Prince that is. He is the exact opposite, all glitz and no substance, but back to the exaggerated way. Some reviewers say that all the acting is bad including Michelle Randolph. Yet she handles the mix of naivety and natural earnestness quite well. I think, that in general, the acting is exactly what it's meant to be with the right timing.

The climax was unnecessarily overly dramatic. Blanca suddenly shows that she has been aware of Victoria's evil nature which implies that perhaps Blanca was far more generous and less naïve than we thought. Naïve or not, Randolph portrays the kind of sweet, beautiful woman that there should be more of in the world.

So many Christmas movies pretend to be based in reality, although Christmas "miracles" are always welcome. Yet almost none of those movies tell a believable story all the way through. If nothing else, you know there will be a Happily Ever After for virtually everyone (sometimes even the antagonists), no matter how incredible the circumstances are that lead up to it. This movie makes no pretense.

So many Christmas movies have almost no tension where often the worst that can happen is that the two leads will go to different parts of the world with no future for a happy romance. This movie, however, is dripping with tension and serious loss is looming. We still have a pretty good idea how everything will turn out, but getting there will be interesting.

Note regarding background music sound level: this is a frequent complaint especially on lower budget movies. Yet, I almost never experience that issue to the extent mentioned in those complaints. There is obviously an issue, but it is not universal to every viewer and this may be related to the viewer's own equipment, or the broadcaster. The root may be in how the sound is mixed, but the delivery varies. In this movie for me, the music never eclipsed the dialogue, but there were a couple of songs with lyrics where they were a little too loud and likewise a couple of instances with background music.

This movie is far from horrible. It is creative and well executed with a couple of minor exceptions. I will admit, that after only one viewing I'm not certain how rewatchable it is. I guess I'll find out next holiday season but like Snow White, I'm optimistic.

BTW: I am far from a one time reviewer. Check my history. I have watched and reviewed over 700 movies and TV shows, the majority but not all either romance or Christmas. That means that I have some experience with different styles and genres.

Nothing special, but good if you like Christmas movies and over-the-top magic romance
zacharymahabir-720293 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this with my mother and while we both admit the premise, some of the facets of the plot line being updated to modern day and the writing weren't the best, it was cute for what it was worth.

The main couple (Blanca and the Hunter) managed to display an average to above average level of chemistry and executed on their roles during the climax and failing action, but I would be remise to not highlight the star of the movie, the very well-versed Carolyn Hennesy. She brings most of the energy and pretty much any substantive comedy to the film. Where as everyone else seems a little too focused on hitting their lines and spots, she effortlessly establishes her role as the Wicked Stepmother and the main villain of the tale.

I'll agree with a reviewer that commented here: it's a decent passive watch, we were both on our computers while we watched, but it's not much more.

Everything is bad, except pretty cast, but that's not enough to make it watchable.

Very Poor
jromanbaker28 November 2023
Satire, or a take on the Snow White story this Christmas film churns out a stereotyped character that they clearly knew that they could get away with. The one minority film makers are still given the right to appear offensive is a gay person. He is supposedly the wicked stepmother's mirror but appears on screen with every cliched mannerism in the book; uplifted little finger, swishing and totally nasty. Positive gay characters are now appearing in Christmas films, but not in this one. I am fine with a totally straight Christmas film, but this character hopefully offended a lot of gay people who look just like other people, The film is also poorly made and poorly acted, and hopefully in the future more respect will be taken over gay characters.

People just don't seem to get this movie
andystyles19 December 2020
Most people who have reviewed this movie have seemed to miss the whole point. This movie is very tounge in cheek and is actually done very well. It is not you typical, same, same Hallmark movie. This is a contemporary retelling of the snow white story and all of the cast do a fine job. Personally I really enjoyed it and is definitely one I'll be watching again.

A Snow White & The Huntsman Christmas
galaxymoncho29 August 2022
IDK WTH Ppl expect from this lovely movie. It's Snow White during Christmas. Plain and simple! Not overly complicated. Ppl who say Michelle Randolph's acting was bad have no idea what their talking about. She's playing Snow White and I thought she did a fantastic job. It's sort of like playing Cinderella. The fact that the actress dyed her beautiful blonde hair is testament to how committed she was to playing this role. Kate Bosworth comes to mind in Superman Returns who refused to dye her hair and that's why she sucked as Lois Lane/Lame!

The exterior shots of the Snow house are of a Victorian style home. But the interior shots show a very modern contemporary style that doesn't match the outside at all. (This was considered a goof when actually it's a very clever way of presenting the old vs new. As in this is an old fable given a modern twist. Plus it just adds to the fairy tale magic. It reminds me of the movie 'Beautiful Creatures' where the exterior is old but inside it's all modern)

Victoria and Zane remind me so much of Wilhelmina and Marc on Ugly Betty.

I especially love the fact that it ends exactly the way I wish 'Snow White and the Huntsman' had ended.
