A good romp

Treasure, Glen and Stacy Keach? Yes please!

Nice to see something lighthearted, without Liz's histrionics.

Other reviews are wrong

This isn't just a filler episode as some other replies suggest, while it may not contribute to the main plot, it was definitely the funniest so far. The whole Samar thingy was predictable and pointless so thats why i only have a 9/10 and not a 10/10.

A Hoot!!!

Of all the episodes I've ever seen of The Blacklist, this has been the funniest & lightest episode of them all!! Usually so serious & suspenseful, it was nice to have a break & have some laughs for a change. As always, James Spader was perfect. Never has such a character been as fascinating as Raymond Reddington!!

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Re
Hitchcoc30 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was so much fun. After all the shootings and mindless viciousness, we have a classic heist movie. As soon as we know that Vesco is Raymond's old nemesis, we know that things are going to go haywire. He is a smoother talker than Red and has a leg up from the beginning. They have such history. I hope those who are so angry that one episode ruins their lives, even Shakespeare had comic relief in his plays. It allows the audience to breathe for a moment before we get back to the harsh realities of the ugliness of our world. The setting of the New Orleans Opera House is a great, almost Hitchcockean place for things to take place. Also, involving all the usual suspects to observe Red's goof-up is priceless. For once, the beauty of the final five minutes was controlled and beautiful. Good work.

Good old fashioned yarn
Lord-Palmerstone24 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was a good old-fashioned yarn in the traditional TV style of the 70's and 80's .... and lo and behold there was one of favourite actors from one of my favourite shows of that era. Stacey Keach as Micky Spillane's Mike Hammer.

This guy had a secretary to die for in Velda, and in every weekly episode he was drowning in a cast of lovely sexy ladies. Any model or aspiring actress from that era turned up on 'Mike Hammer', a bit like 'The Love Boat'.

Anyway in this Blacklister, good old Mike Hammer had used his Private Detective skills to locate Spanish gold missing for centuries, and also did a number (again) on Red.

Good stuff if perhaps a little light versus most other Blacklist episodes.

Filler Filler Filler
Anonnamus10 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Compared to the last couple of episodes, this one was definitely a filler. Slow-moving at that. Reddington is released from prison with a new appreciation for freedom and decides to go after a myth, treasure that supposedly sank to the bottom of the ocean centuries ago. Other than a progression of Samar's storyline, not much has happened but it was still entertaining all the same.

  • Poor Samar. Someone so young and bright and had a long future ahead of her shouldn't have to suffer like she is. If indeed she goes away, she will be missed.
  • Amar. Pretty sure discussing Samar's medical condition with her ex won't make her very happy.
  • This show wouldn't be what it is without the supporting cast. Red's merry band of misfits make The Blacklist what it is. Glen, Ruddiger, Dembe, etc. They may be criminals but they're people you root for with every inch of your body. Hilarious! I miss Baz. I wonder what happened to him? I don't remember seeing him after he was loaded into an ambulance with a minor gunshot wound from Mr. Kaplan. Bring him back!
  • Didn't Elizabeth used to have a baby? Did she decide to let her mother-in-law keep her?
  • Vesco is so playing Reddington again. Don't fall for his act! Red isn't that naive. He won't fall for it. I hope.
  • Aram and Samar are a cute couple. Though I don't see much use for romance in a show like this, they still make me feel warm and fuzzy.
  • Dammit, Reddington. You're too trusting of your friends. And now you look like a fool.

This is an episode you can drop completely and not notice anything different. This was a mindless piece of fluff thrown in, almost like the writers went on strike but they needed an episode to fill their quota so they released a screenplay contest on the internet and here we are. It was fine but not usual Blacklist standard. Even Reddington seemed like he was just phoning it in.

Filler Episode , no point , and ending is predictable
cdkarp7 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It pains me to write this but I feel I must. I am a loyal Blacklist fan and have been since the first episode, However, with regards to this particular episode , there is no point to it at all , and well all know that Red is going to find Robert and the gold There is no way he would be so relaxed in the end if it were to be any other way. Reduce the number of shows per season if it is going to be filled with this drivel

Stupid episode
ak202029 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A stupid plot, full of holes, with an ending that a 10-year old would guess well in advance and with a back plot about Samar which is also silly.

And, surprisingly, the acting for once is poor. The actors all seemed to be in "demob" mode - I guess they were going on a Spring break immediately following the filming.

I hope plotlines and the acting is back to its best from the next episode onwards.
