Please don't blame Nathan Fillion...

Warning: Spoilers
... for the scripts! I agree, he is made out to be rather too heroic for a learner, whilst kind of detached and rather too sentimental, and even for an older guy, gets over extreme trauma ridiculously quickly. There appears to be no de-briefing after shocking experiences. (I do hope the real LAPD is more aware). I mean, would a rookie warrant only a chat with the captain after their first killing, and that, to see if they've been culpable? Really? But, hey, Nathan F. is acting it as it's written, and the scripts are the issue. It's always difficult to know quite how to take a "comedy drama", rolling as it does, from pathos to bathos. This is entertainment, but I feel the pressure exerted on rookies would not be so extreme. I find the episodes a bit uneven, but then, so was e.g. Star Trek, every incarnation of it. I think it's inevitable in multi-character fictional plot development over months.

The Brady List
claudio_carvalho19 October 2021
When the Internal Affairs arrests one fellow detective for lying on the witness stand, his cases are investigated, and three criminals are immediately released from prison. West and Angela have to see the behavior of an innocent woman called Samantha after losing ten years of her life. Tim and Chen go to a paintball club and Nolan and Talia are assigned to check the behavior of a lowlife called Terry. He mentions the name of Dylan and that reference affects Talia. Then Nolan has to face a judge since he is being sued by a con artist but he does not trust in the young lawyer assigned by the police union to defend him.

"Homefront" is an average episode of "The Rookie". It is hard to understand the childish of Nolan, sometimes a police officer that uses his life experience to his work and sometimes having a stupid behavior like in front of the judge. What will happen to the excellent Talia? Looking forward to seeing. My vote is eight.

Less of Nathan Fillion--please!

I like everyone in this show except Nathan Fillion! He acts like a bumbling fool in most episodes--an overgrown, immature kid! The other characters are great and make the show interesting and worth watching, Eric Winter especially! Love the strong females also.

Another great episode

Warning: Spoilers
Like all episodes there was increased insight into the TOs and/or Rookies. This episode developed interaction between Lucy and Tim which was rather funny and the more serious background story of Talia. That story will carry over to the next episode. I really love Talia! Then there was Nolan who was being sued by a bystander who is obviously out to get an easy payout. Problem is John didn't trust his very young and very young looking lawyer (I swear he looks 17) who was doing his first case. So John made a nuisance of himself because he was insecure and scared but he almost lost his care. Definitely made it hard on his lawyer! Before the judge could make a decision Nolan had to run and find Talia. To his credit after the case was won because he couldn't sabotage his own defense, Nolan apologized to his young lawyer. Another great episode with great acting from everyone. This show may be unrealistic but hey, this is TV so it's suppised to be entertainment.
