Bad acting and just lame
scarletepilogue13 August 2021
The main actor (the girl that plays Skyler) is a horrible actor and I was trying to figure out why she talked the way she did the entire movie. It's incredibly distracting. Anyway, overall not a good movie.

Miss Jessica Lake, Queen of the Internet
lavatch20 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
On the surface, "Deadly Influencer" is a critique of the shallowness of social media, the danger of becoming addicted, and mindlessness of "followers," "votes," and internet "friending." However, the core of the film is really about a sociopathic Svengali on the loose, a nefarious "manager" who takes control over young women on the internet with the goal of making them social media stars.

The nut case is Skylar Madison, a young woman who first engineered the meteoric rise to fame of Monica Davis, prior to pushing her over a balcony, then administering a lethal injection in the hospital. Skylar had also murdered her mother from whom she inherited the genes of a control freak. With the death of the mother, Skylar inherited the family home.

The most interesting character in the film was Doreen, the hard-drinking cousin of Skylar. When Doreen gets wise to her cousin, she could have turned her in to the authorities. But Doreen did not follow her conscience, but insisted on becoming a "partner" in Skylar's scam. As a consequence, Skylar paid the ultimate price.

There was a heartfelt bonding with Jessica Lake and her dear mother, a widow and a school teacher. But the theme of the hazards of social media was lost in the evil way that Skylar was narcissistically manipulating Jessica. Thus, the message at the end of the film that J-Lake TV was a failure and we should instead be focusing on IRL (in real life) interactions was never very convincing.

Surprised how bad it was, even after reading the reviews...but, like a traffic accident...just...couldn't...stop watching! The plot, the acting, camera angles, choices of close-ups.....just never gets off the ground. You just keep asking yourself Why??

Terrible acting from the villain made this hard to sit through.

Warning: Spoilers
I got sick of Skylar's talking to herself and started FFing the movie. It would have been less annoying had it been her deceased mother talking in her head. Her acting was so bad, and this persona of being some high powered agent while in high school was so cringe. Skylar's "I rule you. MEEEEEEEEE!!!!" was so cringe and narm-ish. I don't care if it was a nightmare Jessica was having.

My issue with movies and villains like her is why exactly do you need to kill? In this movie, she's killed three people so far. Why was it so easy for her to throw Monica off a balcony? This movie also doesn't give background on how she got into this.

I usually say watch once, but this one is a miss. I only kept watching it because I FF to get to the climax. I am not on social media (unless imdb somehow counts) as I closed all of my accounts. The cringy moment of silence at the end when you just know all of those phones came back on and those kids probably didn't alter their behavior was a bit much.

Did no one check the audio quality?
aweirdsylvia6 April 2020
The audio quality sounds like of a 70s show. It sounds even worst during scenes where Skyler and her sister are in the house. While the quality is somewhat better during the scenes outside Skyler's house, overall it sounds like everyone is talking through a paper towel tube. The premise seems interesting, but they try too hard to push the "social media bad" message, rather than balancing it out. Lastly, the way Monica was killed off was pretty idiotic. All the hospital would have to do is check their security cams, and see a nurse they may or may not recognize. That and it would look extremely suspicious if that same nurse pulled up, went only into one room - where the patient died - then left. How at all was that plan suppose to work?

Should I start a volg?
LifetimeUncorkedPodcast12 August 2019
This movie tried to tell a morality story about the dangers of social media interaction over IRL human contact. Unfortunately, it has inspired me to start my own vlog and hire my own teen manager named Skyler. Seems legit!

Over the top acting, easy to follow, and tried to say something. Pour it up! (One star off for minimal POC representation.)

Skylar is so ambitious
johnginesi-722787 October 2021
The movie is fast paced when an ambitious schoolgirl wants fame and fortune, while eliminating the opposition, she will go to any length including murder to get her own way, if you believe she is a friend it is like putting your trust in the Devil, girls beware Skylar means business. A good film and entertainment unlimited.

Well..
ts-000017 May 2023
Have seen this a few times, the could of picked two actresses more that looked like relatives with their ugly & big noses plus hair styles.

The movie isn't anything new in topic, about dangers of internet or wanting power is deadly.

There was major over-acting especially by Skylar, but expect nothing less of these type movies.

Had to laugh that Skylar got in & out of the hospital so easy with scrubs & her glasses.. Why not wear a wig or something too.. You know, incase of cameras kind of a rookie move if she's managing influencers.

With privacy rights & all that.. No way Jessica & mom could just walk into hospital, getting needing information or security footage about random people not related to them & so forth.

Also why was Skylar obsessed with this? How did she get into it,granted you assume her childhood caused her to be self-sufficient & pushy but we get little backstory to understand how she became the manager over the first influencer that had the balcony(cough)accident.

Overall have seen worse, something that passes time.
