One-Line Review: Dream Girl (6 Stars)
nairtejas15 December 2019
Dream Girl takes a formulaic approach at storytelling (of a man forced to use his feminine voice for employment) climaxing as a comedy of errors that is borderline sexist and discriminating at one point and liberal and pathbreaking at others, I was confused where the interests of director Raaj Shaandilyaa lay, but the one thing that I'm sure is about the comedy that he and his writers manage to generate. TN.

The comedy is on point, never laughed so hard but the script is everywhere!
A-Shekhar23 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The punch lines and its delivery is amazing, if I were to rate its comedy only then it's 10/10 but they got so lazy with the script - tries to get his father to stop thinking about Puja by pretending Puja is a Muslim and then finally when they succeed, goes to the father and encourages him not to let religion come in between love and then stresses again when the father is back again on his love train??? The revelations are so not like revelations at all - why does he need to answer his phone when he knows he can't in front of his fiancee, once he realizes that he can not work from outside the office, should've just gone back to office... it's just lazy writing!

Hilarious and star-cast is perfect
supeshjain13 September 2019
It's a comedy which keeps the laughter and a smile through out the movie. Ayushman and the entire star cast keep the subtle and some times not so subtle going all the time. Nushrat and Manjot have done very well and more than I expected. Vijay Raj , Annu Kapoor once again prove why they are the best in business of comedy. If I had to pick one thing to improve it would be to have spent more time on a very powerful message of the movie. It's an outstanding movie and NOT to be missed

A laugh riot diluted by the length of narrative
msunando14 September 2019
Dream Girl - there are lonely souls galore in a small town seeking solace from the soothing voices of call centre agents. When one of these agents Pooja goes missing in action, she is replaced by Ayushman Khurana, who is blessed with an inborn talent of speaking in a female voice. He assumes the name Pooja and is the soothing balm to the lovelorn individuals, several of whom happen to first fall the charm and then eventually fall in love with him. Problems start emerging when some of them want to meet Pooja personally and propose marriage.

The first half is absolutely hilarious with a series of peculiar characters being introduced and strange situations arising. In the interim, Ayushman Khurana goes on a flourish, keeping his histrionics effervescent and expressive. He is supported by Vijay Raaz whose comic timing and volatility are exceptional. Then there are Annu Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Rajesh Sharma and Manjot Singh, who add to the melee. The second half turns into a drag, often coming across as repetitive, protracted and moving away from realism, somewhat diluting the easy charm of this laugh riot. Nushrat Bharucha appears comfortable in a different role compared to what she has been entrusted with until now, but her chemistry with Ayushman Khurana is weak, and no effort has been made to fix the problem too. Do watch Dream Girl for some comic relief from the regular tensions of life, you will not exactly remember the works of Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee but won't find the presentation as inane as a Rohit Shetty flick too.

Simple comedy movie with different content - itsbymayank
mayanklouteriya16 September 2019
I am writing this review after 3 days I was busy in something. So, people love to enjoy the weekend and this movie tickles the funny bone and worth watch for weekend movie. Ayushmann khurranna the person who know how to deliver the simple script in nice way. Ayushman is one of my favourite so I liked it. Ayushmann choose different content always.. If you like simple comedy movie then this movie is for you. Raaj Shandilyaa the Director nice work sir, he used to write script for Sudesh Krishna and Kapil Sharma now you can't say anything about comedy. See if you'll see the working crew and cast then you'll notice all have done great works. Actress in the movie is Just Fill in the Blanks and some songs are too. Annu Kapoor/Vijay Raaj Sir rocked can't tell the performance in words they were simply nice. Go watch if you like Simple Comedy Movie. I'll give 7 stars...

Raaj Shaandilyaa and Ayushmann Khurana's dream can be bigger and better than this one.
prafullasrivastav15 September 2019
Direction: Raaj Shaandilyaa has perfectly utilized his prior experience with comedy shows. Movie will give you good laugh through out however you feel something missing as a whole project. Vision was great but execution has derailed the momentum.

Performance: Ayushmann Khurana has again proved his mantle with excellent performance. Vijay Raaz was brilliant in the role of Police man cum Shayar. Annu Kapoor was good but sometime he has done some overacting. Nushrat Bharucha failed to beat her best performance from PKP series and SKTKS. Manjot Singh and Rajesh Sharma has done good job. Abhishek Banerjee gave another Stree type performance. Nidhi Bisht was good in small role.

Script: There is only issue with the script as climax was premature one. Love story of Ayushmann and Nushrat was not much convincing. Plot can be more robust in second half so that we can have great entertainment in the cinema hall.

Dialogue: Raaj Shaandilyaa has done excellent job with writing witty dialogues. In whole runtime of this movie, you will enjoy the laughter in the cinema halls.

Music: Meet Bros's Music was good one. Altamash Faridi's "Ik Mulaqaat" and Amit Gupta's "Radhe Radhe" were good song from this album.

Box-office: It opened in double digits which indicate the popularity of Ayushmann among audience. Second day it jumped with huge amount. Looklike this movie will cross the 100 crores mark at the box-office in the lifetime collection.

Last Words: This can be one time watch for good message for society.

Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai episodes were better!!
hverma2621 November 2019
This movie is not as funny as people are telling. Tv show Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai has episodes with the same plot, were made before this movie and they're lot funnier. Aasif Sheikh played the role which Ayushmann played.

Very funny but leaves a bad taste in your mouth
ever-939-28979820 November 2020
The film is fun to watch, but the end just left me with a distaste. The message of the main character is supposed to be "don't judge me" for breaking gender roles, but he does this by judging and shaming others -- for being short, for falling in love with someone younger or of the same sex, or for learning the language of one's crush. It's not just the main character that shows intolerance -- the making fun of Muslim stereotypes was distasteful for me (am neither Muslim nor Hindu). Basically the beginning and middle of the film is great but the last part with the ubiquitous monologue is a disappointment.

An Awesome Entertainer!
shivasaxena-7705113 September 2019
I enjoyed the movie for its novelty and freshness. That means "Dream Girl" does not have that outdated and overdone jokes rather comes out as a perfect Rom-Com. Entertainment seeker must go for it.

Entertaining and Very Different
Jini-B23 February 2020
I knew going in that this movie was going to be unique, but it exceeded my expectations in that department. Ayushmann is simply fantastic and the scripts he picks up are so refreshing and entertaining at the same time.

I loved most of the film, although I did have some complaints at times, I did enjoy most of it. The acting was great and very believable, the supporting cast was great although Nushrat really could have had a more fleshed out role, and the comedy-of-errors element in the script was quite fun to watch. But above them all, Ayushmann is the clear winner and he steals the show completely. An extra star just for his sheer talent.

Overrated
jinijohny31 October 2019
Highly overrated. Dont watch. I dont know why people are praising this movie but i found it quite boring. Idk whats happening with nation's humour these days movies like housefull 4, golmaal 4, total dhamaal, are doing well and people actually liking it. Missing those Priyadarshan's movie which were genuinely funny and were situational comedy not 💩 movies like these.

Ayushmann does it AGAIN!
Amyth4712 December 2019
My Rating : 7/10

'Dream Girl' is an awesome little treat for Ayushmann fans - the man is the renaissance entertainer of Bollywood currently churning 7+ hits in a row!

Beautiful from start to finish, great supporting cast and laugh out loud perfect whenever you are sick of the usual Bollywood mumbo-jumbo where nepotism, unnecessary gossip and hype have overtaken talent, skill and hardwork.

Refreshing, 'Dream Girl' impresses this viewer - Mere dil ka telephone hain bajta Ring-ring-ra-ra-ring...!!!

Hilariously Avant-garde!
SinhaSomesh13 September 2019
#FinalVerdict

Packed with just about every mass-friendly ingredient available on the shelf, which the hoi polloi laps up with delight - Funny sequences, super performances and loads and loads of laughter. Undoubtedly, Dream Girl will be welcomed with open arms by the aam junta! It makes no claims of catering to the intelligentsia. Instead, it's aimed at those who want to spend two hours of their precious life flexing their facial muscles. Side-splitting!

The writing (Raaj Shaandilyaa, Nirmaan D Singh & Niket Pandey) is stuffed with uproarious episodes and a couple of them are indeed side-splitting. At times, makes you break into guffaws, with all its bizarre, outrageous jokes and superb one-liners (Raaj Shaandilyaa). Kudos! What works to the advantage are two factors - the written material & the perfect casting (Nandini Shrikent & Karan Mally). Blemishes? Few sequences appearing stretched without any reason. The romantic track feels disingenuous. Second half is a mess in itself.

DOP Aseem Mishra impressively captures the essence of small town. Hemal Kothari's editing could have been better. Despite its 2 hour 13 minutes runtime, the film begins to feel longer as multiple plot lines overlap, creating a laborious comedy of errors. Abhishek Arora's BGM includes different set pieces for every character and has a naughty vibe which suits the proceedings. Songs by Meet Bros are foot-tapping & fit the genre of the film seamlessly. Raaj Shaandilyaa's direction does complete justice to the material.

Although Dream Girl boasts of a formidable star cast & every actor handles his/her part with effortless ease, the one who registers the maximum impact is Annu Kapoor. His comic timing is fantastic. The real scene-stealer. A treat to watch! Ayushmann Khurrana is the literal example of a 'complete package'. He owns every sequence he features in. Dream Girl should find a prominent place in his repertoire. He plays to the gallery completely. Nushrat Bharucha pairs off very well & does a reasonably good job. The second performance that stands out from the rest is that of Vijay Raaz's. He's magnificent in a role that seems tailor-made for him. What timing! Viewers are sure to go into raptures. Manjot Singh is a revelation. Confidently shows a flair for comedy. Abhishek Banerjee's faultless comic timing coupled with the enthusiasm with which he goes through his part is worthy of immense praise. Nidhi Bisht is simply outstanding. Raj Bhansali's comic timing is impeccable and his one-liners are howlarious.

The mantra here is simple: Let the auditorium reverberate with laughter. And Balaji Motion Pictures' Dream Girl succeeds in its mission! Go laugh out loud and get entertained! But do carry a rumaal since this madcap comedy is quite kamaal in parts. You'd cry laughing!

From start to finish, a complete laugh riot!
ronakkotian15 September 2019
Ayushmann Khurrana has been consistenly surprising me. His script choices are like no other and Dream Girl is no exception. This is truly one of, if not, the funniest film of the year.

Raaj Shaandilyaa's directorial debut film Dream Girl is about a man, who has an impressive talent of voicing a woman, as he decides to join a call centre. However, hilarious situations ensue once his callers start to get obsessed with his female voice.

I have to give mega praise to Raaj Shaandilyaa for writing some of the funniest dialogues I've ever heard in a film. From beginning to end, there is a constant sense of laughter. The one-liners are witty and the events that take place are sure to make you laugh so hard that you may cry.

The one who handles this film is Khurrana who once again doesn't fail to impress. His expressions whilst he's speaking from his feminine voice are perfect. The supporting cast: Annu Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Vijay Raaz, Raj Bhansali, Nidhi Bisht and Manjot Singh are presented with many hysterical sequences and all of them play along it really well. I was a bit disappointed with Nushrat Bharucha's character as there wasn't much for her to do besides being the love interest.

I felt the romance angle was unnecessary and didn't serve much purpose to the film's plot and Shaandilyaa didn't delve as deep as I wanted him to in conveying the movie's message. If the film were to go a more raunchy route like how it would've been in real life then it wouldn't have been so limited in terms of its message. The message was revealed at the end but it was a bit too exposition heavy.

Aside from that, Dream Girl is a full-on entertainer that'll make the entire theatre erupt. Everyone's performance is priceless, particular Khurrana and Kapoor, and Shaandilyaa's rib-tickling screenplay is one that will keep you amused throughout its entirety.

Ayushman never disappoints.
iSatchit20 September 2019
Another awesome movie by the duo, Ayushmann and Anu Kapoor. Anu Kapoor and Ayushmann comes together again and creates a wonderful movie. Another feather in Ayushmann's hat. Hilarious and outstanding performance by all most all the actors except Nushrat, She was not bad at all , but she hardly had something for her to perform. A movie which does not have any cheap and vulgar material , which is rare these days in the comedy genre.

Don't miss this one.

Ayushman's Worst I've seen.
akhil02729 November 2019
I haven't seen movies like Meri Pyari Bindu, Hawaaizaada and Bewakoofiyan. I am a huge fan of Ayushmann. And this is the first time he disappointed me. Dream Girl is another example of a movie that tried to be good by including a message. Writers needs to understand that a movie doesn't become great just because there are some message in it. There were few good funny scenes here and there. But half of the jokes were not that great. The main problem was that I found the movie too Bollywood. As a whole the movie is so silly that they had to give the protagonist a whole speech to convey the message. That just doesn't fit in. Now, some may think that I'm being too critical but this is my opinion. I expected more from a guy who gave us movies like Vicky Donor, Nautanki Saala, Article 15, Andhadhun etc. In short, Dream Girl is a one time watch if you like "Bollywood Entertainers".

Light-Hearted Comedy n a Family Movie, fun to watch.
Tejas_Vinda_AITS13 September 2019
Ever wondered why chat lines and friendship call centres do such good business?

How many of us have more 'friends' on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram than around us in real world to solve our loneliness?

'Dream Girl' is great for laughs and the message about the lack of connection we have for each other and the loneliness faced by people in the modern world is one which needs to be paid attention to.

Entertaining, funny, family film, dont miss.,, its a simple-enjoyable flick.
