- Kara Danvers: Oh, easy. My favorite movie.
- Alex Danvers: "Center Stage".
- Kara Danvers: [insulted] Excuse me?
- Alex Danvers: What? You spent an entire summer learning the red shoe dance. You broke three lamps. No. Okay, um... "Terminator 2". Duh.
- Kara Danvers: No, that's your favorite. Come on, Alex! Think!
- Alex Danvers: [racking her brain] I'm totally blanking.
- James Olsen: You realize you have two donuts in your hands, and that those don't even go together?
- Kara Danvers: Do I?
- James Olsen: Yeah.
- Kara Danvers: [putting them down] Okay. I may be eating my feelings.
- Kara Danvers: It's Alex. I thought we were good after the mind wipe, but I was wrong. The way she spoke to me last night, to Supergirl... she was so cold.
- James Olsen: She doesn't know that you're Supergirl.
- Kara Danvers: I know. Didn't realize how much it would hurt. I mean, not knowing that my favorite movie is "The Wizard of Oz"? Eliza thought that I would relate to the adventures of a young girl being lost in a faraway land. It was... it was my favorite movie, because I was from a different planet. And now, Alex doesn't know that. Not anymore.
- James Olsen: Yeah. It's gotta be tough. I'm sorry. That must be really hard for you.
- Kara Danvers: What if the mind wipe has consequences that we didn't anticipate?
- James Olsen: You can't think that way. Look, maybe the best course of action right now is to throw yourself into your work and just take your mind off of it.
- Alex Danvers: Where did you grow up, Nia?
- Nia Nal: A small town up north called Parthas.
- Lena Luthor: Doesn't that mean "paradise" in Irish? It's a pretty high bar.
- Nia Nal: Paradise is an understatement. The town's not just beautiful, but aliens and humans have lived together in harmony for decades.
- Nia Nal: [ennding a phone call] Sister. We're close, but, um, she drives me crazy.
- Kara Danvers: Well, I can relate to that.
- Kara Danvers: Attack card.
- Alex Danvers: [playing her own] Nope.
- Kara Danvers: No!
- [Alex cackles with laughter]
- Kara Danvers: That's the fifth time.
- Alex Danvers: That means I win.
- [with self-congratulatory cheer]
- Alex Danvers: Yeah!
- Querl Dox: I don't understand this game. These are not kittens, nor do they explode.
- Querl Dox: You two cannot be on the same team again.
- James Olsen: I agree. Inside jokes, shorthand from Midvale. This is an unfair advantage.
- Kara Danvers: So?
- Lena Luthor: Hey, but, you know, maybe we have an unfair advantage, too.
- James Olsen: [amused laugh] You could be right. Greatest human invention?
- Lena Luthor: [answering simultaneously] The electric light.
- James Olsen: Printing press.
- Alex Danvers: Oh. Fail.
- Alex Danvers: Thank you for your assistance, Supergirl. We'll take it from here.
- Supergirl: Happy to help, Alex.
- Alex Danvers: Uh... one more thing. I would really appreciate it if you would address me as Director Danvers.
- Supergirl: [taken aback] Uh... oh. Yes, of coure, Director Danvers.
- Nia Nal: Maeve was always my biggest supporter. I can't believe she'd say something like that.
- Kara Danvers: Nia, I'm so sorry.
- Nia Nal: I knew she was gonna be crushed about the powers, but... Kara, she was so angry.
- Kara Danvers: I know it's not the same thing, but if it makes you feel any better, I've been through a lot with my sister.
- Nia Nal: I appreciate your support, but this isn't something that you can understand. I have alien powers, my sister doesn't. And now she hates me.
- [Kara pulls over]
- Nia Nal: Why are you pulling over?
- [they climb out of the car]
- Nia Nal: Kara, what are you doing?
- Kara Danvers: I do understand. Probably better than anyone.
- [removing her glasses, she takes off into the sky, then lands again]
- Kara Danvers: I am Supergirl. Very few people know my true identity because it's not safe for them to. But I'm telling you because I think it can help you. And I don't think it will harm you. You, too, are a hero. I was the sister with powers. And I watched Alex pay the price for it in so many ways. Most of the time, she handled it with grace, but I'll tell you, there were times that it got ugly. When we were younger... and even now. But I have faith that the love between two sisters will prevail in the end. I have to believe that. I just need you to know now that you are not alone. You have a family. You have me.
- Nia Nal: I've never missed Harvest Fest.
- Kara Danvers: You should take the day off. James won't mind.
- Nia Nal: It's a long drive, and I, you know...
- Kara Danvers: Fall asleep at weird times? I know.
- Nia Nal: Yeah.
- Kara Danvers: So I'll drive.
- Nia Nal: What? You'd... you'd come with me?
- Kara Danvers: Yeah. Your town's, like, an osasis of tolerance, right? So I'll-I'll just pitch a story idea about it to James.
- Nia Nal: Well, Kara, that would be amazing.
- Kara Danvers: First commandment of road trip...
- [haughtily]
- Kara Danvers: Thou shalt defer to the driver's choice of music.
- Spencer: Jerry, bro. I thought the point of your mobile door-to-door service was that you came to my door.
- Kevin Huggins: Here you go. Guaranteed happiness in pill form, just like America promised.
- [accepting payment]
- Kevin Huggins: Thank you.
- Spencer: These look... fun.
- [he ingests it, and turns into a hulking monster]
- Kevin Huggins: Jerry, why does Spencer look like Hagrid on steroids?
- Maeve Nal: [after their mother dies] It's my fault. I should have gotten the powers by now, Nia. It doesn't make sense. I mean, maybe... maybe I'm doing something wrong.
- Nia Nal: Of course you're not doing anything wrong.
- Maeve Nal: I must be. If I had the powers, I would have dreamed mom was in danger. I could have prevented it.
- Nia Nal: Even if you had a dream, you don't know if you could have interpreted it...
- Maeve Nal: Of course I could have. I'm fluent in dream interpretation. I would have been forewarned about mom, I would have... I would have saved her.
- J'onn J'onzz: Hey, Brainy.
- Querl Dox: Greetings, J'onn.
- J'onn J'onzz: I came to see how Alex was feeling. Have you seen her?
- Querl Dox: I have not. But I have located our dealers' van.
- Alex Danvers: [approaching] Brainy, that's great.
- Querl Dox: I have also located Director Danvers. A day of many victories.
- Maeve Nal: In Parthas, when someone passes, we wear white to honor the light in each of us. Humans and aliens alike. Anyone who met my mom knows her light was blinding. I'm so lucky I got to bask in it every single day. And I'm so lucky to follow in her footsteps, continue her work, carry on her legacy...
- Nia Nal: [a vision flashes] Maeve, watch out!
- [she pushes Maeve out of the way just as a Child of Liberty smashes through the wall]
- Nia Nal: Maeve, I swear I was gonna tell you.
- Maeve Nal: Really? When?
- Nia Nal: After the memorial service.
- Maeve Nal: You knew for months. For months, you let me go on about how upset I was that the powers hadn't kicked in yet. You let me humiliate myself, think I was future blind...
- Nia Nal: No, no. I-It wasn't like that. I was trying to transfer the powers to you somehow.
- Maeve Nal: Right. How did you, of all people, get the powers? They're supposed to be passed down from mother to daughter. So how did someone like you get them? You're not even a real woman.
- Kara Danvers: Your hand.
- Alex Danvers: Oh. Yes. Well, that is a lovely parting gift from Supergirl. I hope your weekend was better. Oh, J'onn said you were on assignment. How did that go?
- Kara Danvers: Oh. The story I was following didn't really pan out.
- J'onn J'onzz: Hey, how about we don't actually talk about work tonight?
- Alex Danvers: Yeah.
- Kara Danvers: I could do that.
- [mimicking Arnold Schwarzenegger]
- Kara Danvers: Now, watch the movie if you don't want to die.
- Alex Danvers: [snickering] It's "if you want to live."
- Kara Danvers: Oh, shoot.
- Alex Danvers: [playfully throwing popcorn at her] Oh, you goober.
- Jerry: Whoa. Dude, did you see that?
- Kevin Huggins: [watching cartoons on TV] Yeah, that cat's so dumb.
- Jerry: No, no, the pills. They're... they're glowing.
- Alex Danvers: [leaving game night for work] It's gonna be okay. There's nothing too end-the-world-y. It's just an alien brawl at NCU.
- Mackenzie: Mr. Olsen, I wanted to pitch you a story, but it's, um...
- James Olsen: [gesturing for her to sit down] Please.
- Mackenzie: It's kind of sensitive.
- James Olsen: Yeah, no worries.
- Mackenzie: It's about L-Corp and Ms. Luthor. My source in the accouting department found a glitch in their numbers. Caught rumors of a black budget; he thinks it has to do with genetic testing.
- James Olsen: Genetic testing isn't illegal.
- Mackenzie: If it wasn't shady, why would they keep it off the books? So, can I follow the money?
- James Olsen: Yeah. But send me what you have first. I want to vet it.
- Querl Dox: Those are not bruises. Simply toxins pulled to the surface by the Truth Seeker. Not to worry, they'll vanish soon.
- Alex Danvers: I hope so. Something just doesn't feel right.
- Querl Dox: Perhaps this will make you feel better.
- [sending a video file from his AI core to a monitor]
- Querl Dox: I have discovered the species we apprehended last night.
- Alex Danvers: They're human?
- Querl Dox: Oh, no, not just human. Frat boys.
- Kara Danvers: So, when did your mom come from Naltor?
- Nia Nal: When she was 18. The night before she fled her planet, she had a dream about a farmhouse where she would meet her true love. And she saw a bunch of random coordinates that she plugged into her craft, and she landed on Earth in Parthas. A human family took her in, farmers, and she fell in love with their son. My dad.
- Nia Nal: I can't imagine having grown up anywhere else.
- Kara Danvers: Because you have parents from two different planets?
- Nia Nal: Yeah. But also because I'm trans.
- [Kara glances at her in surprise]
- Nia Nal: I always knew that I was a girl. My parents were amazing. They affirmed my authentic self, and helped me transition young, and I've always been able to be open about who I was in Parthas. I'm not saying it was easy; there were definitely people who didn't understand. But the town's ethos of inclusion is strong, and I think if I grew up anywhere else, it would have been a lot tougher.
- Kara Danvers: Thank you for sharing that with me.
- Nia Nal: Of course. Just one other thing. When you meet my family, please don't mention the dreaming powers. It's just that I haven't told them yet, and I've never kept a secret from my sister. It's been weighing on me.
- Kara Danvers: Yeah, I know that feeling. I won't say a word.
- Alex Danvers: We found traces of an unknown drug with traces of alien markers in your system. What is it, and where did you get it?
- Spencer: Aspirin. From a bottle.
- Josh: Man, it's the same stuff we take all the frickin' time. But this time, it... it was different.
- Alex Danvers: Different how?
- Spencer: All I felt was rage. And not the fun kind.
- Josh: They usually just make you happy.
- Spencer: Bad batch, I guess.
- Josh: Are we in trouble?
- Alex Danvers: I have you on six counts of assault, so, yeah. But if you give me the name of your dealer, maybe we can talk.
- Spencer: How about... I give you the name of my lawyer, narc?
- Querl Dox: Are you okay?
- Alex Danvers: Yeah. Uh, no. No, those idiots in there, they can't pass freshmen comp, and yet I couldn't crack them. Why?
- Querl Dox: I don't have that answer. But I do know why our Jekylls became Hydes. The substance they ingested was radicalized by 15 to the 19th powerhertz of gamma rays.
- Alex Danvers: Someone irradiated their party drug?
- Isabel Nal: [Nia enters the house] You look famished.
- Paul Nal: She looks lovely. As always.
- Nia Nal: Hi.
- Maeve Nal: And chic. Who is this city girl?
- Nia Nal: Hi!
- Maeve Nal: What has she done with my sister?
- Nia Nal: Uh, Maeve, mom, dad, I want you to meet my friend and boss, Kara Danvers.
- Kara Danvers: Nice to meet you.
- Isabel Nal: Kara, we're so delighted you came.
- Kara Danvers: Your home is beautiful.
- Paul Nal: Kara, do you like radishes?
- Kara Danvers: Uh... yeah.
- Paul Nal: Isabel's radishes are legendary.
- Isabel Nal: [downplaying] Okay. Okay.
- Paul Nal: And the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
- Maeve Nal: [a little embarrassed] Oh.
- Paul Nal: Maeve's got all her mom's gifts. Look at her orchids.
- Maeve Nal: Mom's a natural. I have labored to memorize the 30,000 species of orchids.
- Isabel Nal: Sweetheart, you have been a prodigy since you were in diapers.
- Maeve Nal: More like your protégé since I was in diapers.
- Paul Nal: You know, I can't believe our Nia works at CatCo. You've read Cat's book how many times?
- Nia Nal: [wincing in embarrassment] Fourteen.
- Kara Danvers: [surprised] Really?
- Maeve Nal: [the family laughs] Oh! More like 40.
- Isabel Nal: It was always Nia's dream to be a journalist. To be in the center of things, to effect change.
- Maeve Nal: Some of us actually like it far from the madding crowd.
- Kara Danvers: So you live here in Parthas?
- Maeve Nal: I live just down the street. I apprentice with mom, and I own a painting studio.
- Kara Danvers: I've been staring at these paintings all day.
- [Maeve snickers]
- Kara Danvers: Are they yours?
- Maeve Nal: They're mom's. She paints her dreams. So will I, once my dreams finally kick in.
- Isabel Nal: You can't rush things, honey.
- Maeve Nal: Has Nia told you about our strange family legacy, Kara? The otherworldly dreaming powers?
- Kara Danvers: She's mentioned it.
- Maeve Nal: Dreaming the future is passed down on the matrilineal line. One woman from every generation inherits the gift.
- Kara Danvers: Just one?
- Maeve Nal: Yeah. Just one. Unless, of course, she's cursed with future blindness. In which case it skips a generation.
- Isabel Nal: That's not gonna happen, Maeve. I told you, when I was pregnant with you, I dreamt that my daughter would have the gift. Just give it time.
- Querl Dox: There are reports of two more rage attacks.
- Alex Danvers: It's spreading. We need to get more teams out there immediately.
- Querl Dox: Copy. Also, it appears these outbursts were... intentional.
- Alex Danvers: People are buying this drug on purpose? How? And why?
- [Brainy shows her a tablet]
- Alex Danvers: I should have been ahead of this. Brainy, I'm off. Something is wrong with me. I mean, it's like something in my mind, it's missing.
- Alex Danvers: J'onn, thank you for coming.
- J'onn J'onzz: Sure. You sounded panicked on the phone. Is everything all right?
- Alex Danvers: I'm not thinking clearly, and I can't afford to be making mistakes.
- J'onn J'onzz: Well, how can I help?
- Alex Danvers: Scan me. My mind.
- J'onn J'onzz: [evasively] Why?
- Alex Danvers: Something is wrong with me, J'onn. I-I don't know how to describe it, I just feel... disconnected. I feel vulnerable. I mean, look, what if something went wrong when I underwent the Truth Seeker? I know there's not supposed to be any side effects or anything, but that's when this began. I just need to know that I'm okay. And if I'm not okay, I just need to know that I'm not crazy. Please, J'onn.
- Nia Nal: This is Maeve's old room.
- Kara Danvers: It's so pretty.
- [looking at books on the bookshelf]
- Kara Danvers: Jung and Dreams, Lexicon of Dreams... Well, I understand why you haven't told Maeve that you inherited the powers.
- Nia Nal: Right? It's a disaster. I never even wanted the powers. I always wanted to be out in the world, reporting, helping people.
- Kara Danvers: Well, you can help people in a big way with your powers.
- Nia Nal: Maeve's been studying the language of dreams her whole life. This is all she's ever wanted. This will break her heart.
- Kara Danvers: If the powers are only passed to one daughter per generation, why are they so sure that it's Maeve?
- Nia Nal: You heard my mom. When she was pregnant with Maeve, she dreamt that her daughter would be the Dreamer.
- Kara Danvers: Believe me, I know how hard it is to hurt your sister, but I think you should tell her.
- Nia Nal: I'm gonna talk to my mom. I'm gonna see if there's a way that I can transfer the powers to Maeve somehow.
- Kara Danvers: I don't think it works like that.
- Nia Nal: Could you just talk to my sister? Interview her for your article? Just buy me some time with my mom?
- Kara Danvers: Okay. Of course.
- J'onn J'onzz: The mind wipe should be untraceable. But it's possible because Alex's relationship with Supergirl is unlike anyone else's, her encounter with the Truth Seeker may have left her with an unidentifiable itch.
- Querl Dox: You can't tell her that Supergirl's identity has been removed. Haley is still on a mission to find out who Supergirl is.
- J'onn J'onzz: I know. I know. But, uh, sometimes a placebo can be very effective.
- Querl Dox: You're going to lie to her.
- J'onn J'onzz: I don't want to. But maybe it'll bring her peace of mind, help her heal.
- J'onn J'onzz: Are you ready?
- Alex Danvers: Yeah. Thanks for doing this, J'onn.
- J'onn J'onzz: All right.
- [his eyes turn red and he cups her face]
- J'onn J'onzz: You're fine. Everything is normal.
- Alex Danvers: Really? Thank god. Okay.
- J'onn J'onzz: Perhaps the stress you're feeling at work is, uh, the lack of a partner. A good cop to your bad cop.
- Alex Danvers: Or maybe... I need the opposite of a cop. Brainy, how are your acting skills?
- Maeve Nal: I never thought I'd be quoted in CatCo.
- Kara Danvers: So, tell me what's it like to live in Parthas.
- Maeve Nal: Most people in Parthas never leave. Nia's one of the few. She's fearless. I've always been envious of that.
- Kara Danvers: We all have our own gifts.
- Maeve Nal: My mom chose to use her gifts to nurture this town. But my grandmother, on Naltor, she was the hero of the planet. Like Supergirl. When my powers kick in, I want to be that kind of hero.
- Kara Danvers: Well, I think maybe being a hero isn't all it's cracked up to be.
- Kara Danvers: Children of Liberty? Here?
- Maeve Nal: Every year at Harvest Fest, jerks from neighboring towns come and protest. They hate humans and aliens mixing. When you have something good, there's always gonna be people who want to tear it down. Don't worry, the citizens of Parthas can take care of themselves.
- Spencer: Who are you?
- Querl Dox: We met last night at your humble abode. Sick rager, BT-dubs.
- Spencer: Why are you in here?
- Querl Dox: Like you, I scored some of that sweet, sweet rage candy. The next thing I know, I'm tossed in here with you fine gentlemen.
- Spencer: Well, whatever you do, don't breathe a word to that witch.
- Querl Dox: Of course not. I would never. Perhaps, once we're out, we could find some more of those rage pills and, well, rage.
- Spencer: No, I'm done with that stuff. Besides, if Jerry and Kev are smart, they jumped in that van and got the hell out of town.
- Querl Dox: Jerry and Kev.
- [as he snaps his fingers, the cell doors open and he moves to leave]
- Querl Dox: That was easy.
- J'onn J'onzz: Impressive. It took you less than two minutes to get that information.
- Alex Danvers: How did you learn to speak dude-bro?
- Querl Dox: The same way they did. The movies.
- Alex Danvers: Well, thank you. Both of you. For everything.
- J'onn J'onzz: Yeah.
- Alex Danvers: Now let's catch these guys before they can do any more damage.
- Isabel Nal: I miss you so much. I can never understand how you enjoy living in that concrete jungle.
- Nia Nal: Oh, there's a life force to the city. It's not the same as nature, but it's alive.
- Isabel Nal: You seem in tune with the energy of the city. It suits you.
- Nia Nal: I was talking to Kara about the dream powers...
- Isabel Nal: Mm-hmm.
- Nia Nal: And she was wondering, just out of curiosity, if you didn't want the powers when you were my age, was there a way that you could've refused them?
- Isabel Nal: No.
- Nia Nal: What if you really didn't want to use them? What if you needed to direct them to somebody else?
- Isabel Nal: The Dreamer is destined. The chosen one doesn't have a choice. It's in her blood.
- Isabel Nal: Nia, it's you. Oh, my god.
- Nia Nal: Mom, what's happening?
- Isabel Nal: You're in my dream. I'm dying, my love. You are the next Dreamer.
- Nia Nal: No, no.
- Isabel Nal: Of course it's you. It had to be you. I'm sorry I was so blind. My dream of my daughter with powers... I never saw her face.
- Nia Nal: Mom, I don't care about that. I'm not ready for you to go.
- Isabel Nal: You are ready. My element was water. Yours is fire. And your fire will make you far more powerful than I ever was. It was your destiny to be my daughter. To be Dreamer. Life put you through many trials just to be who you are. It made you strong. That strength will serve you well as a hero. My Nia.
- James Olsen: What's that?
- Lena Luthor: Game night training.
- [he laughs]
- Lena Luthor: What? Okay, listen, some couples need to work on their communication skills, and others need to work on their competitive trivia skills. You and I are deeply connected, Mr. Olsen. We just need our game night performance to reflect that.
- James Olsen: And you hate to lose.
- Lena Luthor: And I hate to lose.
- Querl Dox: At first I found no vehicle registered to our suspects, and I thought perhaps Spence was lying. Which would be so like him. But then I found this...
- [showing them his tablet]
- Querl Dox: Originally registered to Mrs. Veronica "Roni" Miller, now deceased. The title has then passed to Roberta Miller, Jerry Miller's little sister.
- Alex Danvers: Good work. All right, let's move, people. Hey, you wanna take advantage while the cat's away and roll with? With all this rage going on, we could use a man of peace.
- J'onn J'onzz: Sure. You seem better.
- Alex Danvers: I am. Thanks to you.
- Nia Nal: I'm supposed to wear one of Maeve's dresses? What else am I gonna take from her?
- Kara Danvers: You can't blame yourself for this.
- Nia Nal: I lied. I did have a dream on the car ride. I dreamt my mom drank an inky black fluid and turned into ash. That's why I trashed Maeve's art supplies. But I took the poison ink literally. It was only a symbol of death. I would have known that if I had bothered to study, like my sister. There were all of these other symbols, things I couldn't decode, cobwebs. Tons of cobwebs. Spiders spin webs. I should've known that the ink was only a symbol, that the spiders were the real danger. Maeve would've known that. Maeve should have gotten the powers.
- Kara Danvers: Nia, don't do this to yourself.
- Nia Nal: I can't ever tell her I have them.
- Kara Danvers: Hey. Please, listen to me. Keeping a secret from your sister will only hurt you more than anything else. You didn't take anything from her. You didn't choose to be the sister with powers. In time, she'll understand that. But right now, you have to be honest with her.
- Nia Nal: You're right. I'll tell her. After the memorial.
- Querl Dox: I was certain this was the last confirmed location of Roberta Miller's van.
- J'onn J'onzz: I think it was. Looks like somebody already did your job for you.
- Alex Danvers: [seeing them tied up] Jerry Miller? Kevin Huggins? You're under arrest for selling an unidentified alien substance. Search 'em.
- Kevin Huggins: No, no, you won't find anything. We were robbed.
- Alex Danvers: By who?
- Jerry: I don't know. They said something about attacking some alien festival?
- Alex Danvers: This is what I was afraid of. Brainy, take 'em in.
- Alex Danvers: Supergirl, you struck an agent of the United States military.
- Supergirl: And you were about to shoot down an innocent alien.
- Alex Danvers: I was containing a volatile alien, and you interfered.
- Supergirl: That alien was just defending his home. These... these Children of Liberty wannabes were provoking him. They attacked a peaceful memorial.
- Alex Danvers: Your word no longer works for us. And I have a job to do. That's to uncover all of the facts. And that girl, she is not a Child of Liberty, she's just a kid who took a drug to fuel her rage.
- Supergirl: Why would someone...
- Alex Danvers: Because this world is filled with a lot of people that are bigger and stronger than her. And that kind of vulnerability, it makes you angry. And when you feel powerless enough, you will do anything it takes to feel strong.
- Supergirl: I can understand that.
- Alex Danvers: Really? How? You are literally described as the Girl of Steel. On the outside and the in.
- Supergirl: [stung] You really think I don't know what it feels like to be vulnerable?
- Alex Danvers: No, I don't. Now you either stand down or I will arrest you, too.
- Kara Danvers: The mind wipe did change Alex.
- J'onn J'onzz: I thought lying to her one more time would help, but... it goes deeper than that. The disconnection was a symptom. Alex grew up with a sister from another planet. A superhero. Without that memory, that exposure to other, her perception has changed. Her empathy has shifted.
- Kara Danvers: Why? I don't get it. She's close with plenty of other aliens.
- J'onn J'onzz: You were Alex's primary relationship during her formative years. It's what formed her view of aliens. And that's what we've erased. That blood memory.
- Kara Danvers: I have to believe that deep down, she's still our Alex.
- J'onn J'onzz: We did what we had to do, and now we have to be strong. For her.
