Good show, could be a half hour shorter
brittblair19 November 2018
I've watched the first two episodes of Dogs and already cried several times. These are definitely some heartwarming stories that remind us how Man's Best Friend earned his title. However, there is an excessive amount of b-roll in this series. I find myself waiting for a cut to something that adds to the story during long periods of dramatic b-roll. It would be fine if they didn't drag it out so much. My take: cut the fat, make this a 30 m show, and it could be a hit!

Seems like some people don't get it
patrickmolloy12 December 2018
I've seen several negatives about the show focusing on people instead of dogs. If you don't learn the back story about why people get these dogs, you're missing out. This is about what amazing animals dogs are and what they can do. If you were expecting Lassie, you won't get this series.

Title says it all. BEAUTIFULLY orchestrated by everyone involved. Intelligent and deep. We simply don't deserve dogs. Well done NETFLIX!

Not what it says on the tin

Less people more dogs please. Yes the stories about the people are important but that's not why we picked this to watch. Bit slow paced at times as well

Puppy Love
Lebowskidoo8 May 2019
Society frowns upon people expressing love too often to each other. It's much easier to hug your dog than it is to tell your parents, kids or loved ones that you love them, in most cases. Dogs, or pets in general, are an outlet for expressing love, an instinctual need we all have, and they serve this purpose beautifully. This series demonstrates the mutual affection we share with dogs in our lives.

I dare you not to shed a tear at some point during each episode, I know I did.

Humans over dogs
colbybland2 December 2018
Not as much about dogs as the title leads you to believe. More about human stories and how dogs play a role in them. Episode 2 is particularly political and non-dog based. That episode deserves a 1-2. As someone who has had to move around considerably and leave their dog behind the pushier aspect of the series got old quick. Tell me stories about the human/dog relationship. The book"my life in dogs years" would've made afar better series.

Should be called 'People and their dog/s'
Francois8423 July 2021
I've only watched this show because my other half wanted to watch it. It's quite relaxing given some of the atmospheric music, and it is well filmed. But as some other reviewers have noted, the title is misleading. It isn't really about dogs. Yes, yes, each episode features a dog or dogs and, to a superficial degree, the connection to their owners or business. But the focus of the show does feel confused, often unfocused, and ultimately quite pointless. I got this right from the first episode, and it continues more or less throughout every episode, as if the producers didn't know what it wanted to be, but for ease simply called it 'Dogs', because well, each episode features at least one dog. Even so despite this, it's still watchable enough. Measure your expectations and if you have a TV and sound system that can take advantage of the Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, that will at least partly make up for this mistitled Netflix series.

Misleading title
kderksen-6826511 December 2018
A better suited title for this show (can't call it a docu) would be: 'Humans and their dogs'. I was really hoping for a docu about dogs and the history and development of their connection to humans. But maybe that is a kind of docu for a more serious network, instead of a marketing based one. For me this is a reality show about humans and their reasons for having a dog/dogs in their life. It is at least 80 percent about the people in an episode and about 20 percent about the dogs. And even then it is about the 'why'/background/needs/wants of the person and not about the why from a dog's perspective or the relationship itself. I have seen far better coverages of the the same subjects on YouTube, including one about Territorio de Zaguates.

top notch series
NinoKopfKino14 April 2020
Some people saying these series are not nice i believe cant see beuty in simplicity. this was an amazing series, wonderfuly done. i cried several times in each episode. i enjoy every single scene,so touching and kind. i hope ice will live forever. he was my favorite dog in these series. i truly believe he is a human being not an actual dog. brilliantly wise and kind! i was pleased when i found out nino shengelaia also took part in making this film. do not believe people saying its bad, remember how many times someone said "its bad" and then you watched and you were like " no,it was actually good". thats the same case here. enjoy watching.

Its "Humans with dogs"
scorpiogemini1 December 2018
I was a bit perplexed and also felt decieved as this show claims to be about dogs. Its not. Its about the humans, and their attachments to their dogs. Yes its shot atmospheric and all but its only that. Nice atmospheric photage.

There is almost nothing about the dogs per say. There is often not even real close ups on them. We don't even get to know them, we only get to know the humans and how and why they are attached. Corinns story is so moving. But the focus is not on the dog, at all.

Overall, the episodes feals incomplete in some ways. Even when we get almost 1 hour per episode, its something missing in every one of them.

For ex the one with the Japanese groomers. It felt like the episode was cut off. Like, we followed the episode, for what? In the end it felt just like an interview o the participants, sadly, because they were so interesting. The dogs are, not the foucus as said..

The second one with the refugee and the dog Zeus. Was hard to watch. I was taken a back at howAyham seems to care more about his dog then his family, mother and friends. Also, it was horrible to see how Najid was smooking in front of the dog in several scenes! He practically sticks the cigarett in the dogs nose! Thats terrible! What kind of an animal lovers iare thise people? One would not smooke or put a cigg close to the face of ones child right? Or I guess thise people would...

And the camera crew is just ok with this?

The only interesting episode was Ice in Italy. But they had just one great photage where the focus was on him, the last scenes where the dog is walking to the beach at night alone. More of that pleas.

Overall, nice photage and quality camera work. Other then that, its documentary style series focus on humans, talking about their dogs.. I'm so disppointed as I always get with Netflix originals...

Episode 1 completely irresponsible
cmbushnell1 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
As a retired special education teacher, I found episode 1 to be horribly irresponsible in portraying a couple of families who received service dogs so that other people will relate to their children. This should not be considered a documentary because it failed to ask watchers to consider the true purpose of service dogs in mitigating disabilities. Rather it pandered to the emotional appeal and "coolness" of having a dog. What a waste of such vital and valuable resources!

How many seizures a day did Corrine have? And after the dog her mother still slept in her room!? Please, this family needs counseling and a family dog in addition to a medical device to monitor Corrine's sleep.

And yes, I have 2 nephews and 2 nieces with disabilities, and only 2 of them will be able to live independently.

Not enough dogs
sevenjetc22 February 2020
I wanted to watch a thing about dogs, how they grow up, how they train, but in the first half an hour there was maybe 30 seconds of dogs, only dumb kids all the time.

Disappointing
tlarraya15 July 2021
I´ve watched all seasons 1 and 2 before writing this review and I can say I didn´t like any of the episodes. We are dog lovers but many episodes aren´t even about dogs. I found 1 episode out of the 10 episodes (6 & 4 per Season) mildly entertaining. Nose so the others.

Not about dogs...
shadowshawnk2 March 2024
I actually watched a season two episode as my first episode. It was a story about the butler bulldog, and I liked it very much! I realize that I watch the first episode out of order. So my next episode was season one episode one, named "a kid with a dog." I'm 40 minutes into this episode, and the dog has been featured for less than 2 minutes of screen time while the entire time we get some sob story about some little kid with epilepsy. If I wanted to watch sob stories I'd go and watch the Hallmark Channel or the Lifetime movie network. I wanted to watch a series about dogs but this is about people's sob stories....
