the beginnings of the Hungarian hip hop subculture
oj-2850910 March 2019
This 2nd part of BP Underground series explores the beginnings of the hip hop subculture, presenting also interviews w/ members of the first and most important underground hip hop bands, not only from Budapest but also from other Hungarian cities. We see the evolution of the genre from underground to mainstream. After the communism, everything coming from the USA was cool and desired, the most important bands formed (Killakikitt, NKS, AKPH, gipsy rap, female rappers like Mohamed Fatima, Poisy etc.) and started to play in the legendary clubs of that time. A hip hop formation has 4 parts: we see and hear DJs playing the beats, MCs rapping, break dance and graffiti. I missed nevertheless some of the bands I like (Tkyd, Funktasztikus, Siska Finuccsi) and I think they should have been mentioned at least :( Respect!
