Started off great, then became a missed opportunity.
Top_Dawg_Critic28 January 2021
Experienced editor, turned newb writer and director Richard Colton started his film off great, but when more characters were introduced, the film became very apparently amateurish.

From the start, the cinematography, score, choice of colors, and the awesome set were impressive. The refreshingly unique storyline drew me in and kept me intrigued. Newb actress Jess Impiazzi as RIA performed really well alongside Luke Goss' character. Up to the point Jack # 2 was introduced, this movie felt like it was going to be one of the better B-grade films I've seen in a while. Even the 95 minute runtime was just right for the pacing.

But as soon as Amar Adatia started performing as Jack # 2, amateur vibes stated buzzing. Then as more of the other characters were introduced, and some repetitiveness of the film became apparent, those amateur vibes grew. I'm sure mainly due to Colton's inexperience towards his failure to direct his cast properly, all the other performances seemed horrible, unconvincing and very amateurish. Even some dialogue became ridiculous along with the plot and technical issues that started to surface. Pretty much the rest of the film then became your basic low budget B-grade film, and that's too bad, because this one had serious potential to be amazing.

Although Colton's directing and his storyline remained decent, the poor acting and terrible dialogue flopped what should've been a gem of a film. I wish he at least had a seasoned writer edit his script, and/or an experienced cast director help with his actors poor and unconvincing performances. But considering all new filmmakers have to start somewhere, he still gets high points from me for his storyline. I don't feel this film is deserving anything less than a 5/10. I mean Goss did the best he could with what he had. So it's a 5/10 from me. To see my review criteria, or more of my 1000+ reviews, click on my username. Then if you're a fan of Goss, sci-fi, and have nothing else to watch, and know going into this it is an amateur low budget B-grade film, go see this - you'll probably enjoy it.

Not original but completely ok low budget sci-fi
shide_8531 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The movie seamlessly blends the notion that the "sexbot" a.i. is or maybe isn't conscious, or on the verge of becoming that. It also deals in abuse of the A.I. - in short; a classical subject. It then turns into a mystery/thriller that has an original plot twist (more or less). Yes, there are many clichés and the scenografy could have done alot better (though probably good enough on the budget), the actors sort of delivered but the overall feeling of the movie derailed a little due to sci-fi feeling not really being there.

Pro's Acting Initial build-up Mystery momentum

Con's Clichés Unoriginal parts scongray and costume in what should be sci-fi'esque parts (use minimalism as is the common go to to get that feeling, even if it isn't logical the design will change that much).

End notes: I would be shocked if they didn't find a role for Dean Cain in the next wonderwoman, he shows here as in a couple of other movies that he can actually deliver well enough for a none lead part in a major movie.

Not one of Lukes best
Quigonjay28 January 2021
I don't mind Luke Goss, he is hardly what you would call an a list actor but he has been in some ok films, this is not one of them. Besides, although he may be the main protagonist in the flm, his role, as far as screen time goes, is quite minor. Not a terrible 1 star film, but one that you would find hard to recommend somebody spending money on. Would agree with the reviewer that said this could easily have been a black mirror episode. If it was it would have been half the length and not as tiresome to sit through. Some terrible acting, choppy editing, only just watchable.

30 minutes of greatness and then the chaos
sdiama7 February 2021
The first 30 minutes are very good and then starts the great fall to the depths of bad acting, bad script and in general really bad movie. It seems like the writer and director of first 30 minutes is completely different from the other movie!

Good first 30 minutes wasted on increasingly bad script and terrible acting
mlucullus25 May 2021
There is another review bere that mentions the good first 30 minutes and captures everything that goes terribly wrong afterwards, so I won't repeat. I would like to point out the actress who plays Ria - she really is a breath of fresh air, the only good thing throughout the movie. It was a nice surprise in an otherwise disappointing feature.

Two movies mashed together
ravencorinncarluk9 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
One of the themes would have made a great Black Mirror episode: the exploitation of sexbots for entertainment and abuse. Along with the vapid and addicted nature of the viewing crowd. Is she alive, isn't she? Are people protesting because it's really happening, or would they care if it were a scripted show doing the same thing?

Some of the camera work and colors are great during the first act, adding to the mysterious atmosphere of what's going on. I fully commend the single take that keeps switching her dress and her Jack; really well done and artistic.

But the other theme, of revenge because rich people literally get away with murder, is so painfully cliche and was handled so poorly. The script sounded as by-the-numbers as anything made for tv. Those parts were kind of painful to watch, and weren't handled with anything like the same flair and finesse.

Just really comes across as two different scripts, two different directors, two different editors, and the footage all smooshed together to make one movie that's mostly coherent.

I wanted to like it more. Ria's actress does a phenomenal job, but that's counterbalanced by so many other terrible performances. I barely made it through to the end, and all the "twists" were lame by the time they were finally revealed. The sci-fi aspect is pretty soft, but when the movie becomes boring and unengaging, it's easy to start picking apart the flaws.

And the ending was pretty much unsatisfying.

Cut out the revenge aspect, just deal with the exploitation of sex workers and the media preying on the voyeuristic nature of humans, and I think this would be three or four stars better.

Had potential
knorton-8773610 October 2021
Great idea. But terribly executed. Exceptionally bad acting.

If only this had been made from the producers of black mirror it would of been amazing.

Is it worth pursuing?
king1100411 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My criticism on this film, unfortunately, was a good start, but the prevailing silence brings sadness and boredom during the repetition. The scenes actress (Raya) when she meets a person and then the other until she gets bored, so you say what will happen now? Where is the suspense and excitement? As for the role of vice president, why does the actor not give the role his right? It is a failure in the sense of every word. The roles of ordinary actors, such as viewers or broadcasters, as if they are not the actors, need rehabilitation to act. The role of the controlling actress (Raya) is a very failure. She does not know the representation that she is a show with her colors. Failed scenario It doesn't deserve even one star

Should be a Black Mirror episode.
wallisoft27 January 2021
This would have been warmly recieved as a new Black Mirror episode - it works fine when viewed in that light. Definitely worth a watch, it's better than a few actual BM episodes.

A Day with Ria
nogodnomasters13 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
If you read the IMBD by-line for the film, it is a plot spoiler. The year is 2040 and it is clear Ria (Jess Impiazzi is a Stepford wife. We later discover she is part of a live TV broadcast called "A Day with Ria" similar to the Truman Show. People get to spend a day with Ria and it is broadcast using small hidden cameras. Ria gets hacked and her nice peaceful program is overridden.

It was an interesting film, especially if you don't know what is coming. My advice is a cold viewing. I kept thinking Jess Impiazzi was Olivia Wilde.

Guide: F-word. Brief sex. Nudity (Jess Impiazzi )

Television Good! Robot Good!
bemyfriend-4018412 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Television good! Robot good! You are the robot! Lots of plot twists. Seems he wanted more than revenge. He wanted to be "Jack". Blue pilled. If you choose to be fooled, you'll be fooled. Gets six because it was imaginative and entertaining. Elements of truth, I guess.

I wanted to see a bad rated movie ...
olimenil2 October 2021
... hopefully while doing some sports so i didn't waste my time!

This movie is like a Westworld episode with a huge negative exponent ... so it's close to zero!

Poor acting, awful special effects, disastrous scenario and dialogues ...

All ingredients are there !

Not good, not bad, but ending was out of place.
psucat-2454216 January 2022
I thought the first 30 minutes were boring beyond belief and I almost turned it off, but then the plot picked up a little. The story was pretty interesting overall, but some of the minor directorial decisions seemed really out of place and the pacing was very unbalanced. The ending was just awful, IMO. That was the worst decision of the whole movie.

Overall, watchable if you are just looking for some entertainment.

Follows the exploits of our political dynasties
rich-972-2553938 December 2022
Stiff performances by actors who have done better. The story has some minor twists on old AI, robotics and technological themes. Nothing groundbreaking, mostly creative along the edges. The script and acting were forced and not great but watchable to pass the time, especially is you like the genre. Still, I did watch and stayed interested. There was an abandonment of morality and ethics by all characters in this play, including the audience. It suggests we are all devoid of decency.

A sci-fi'd crossover merging of the Biden and Kennedy families. Who knew that political scandals could make such engrossing entertainment?

It could have been a contender....
alison-carlyle6714 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The idea is interesting. The script is stilted and stops flowing after the first Jack. The lead actresses performance is stunning, Goss is believable but the rest of the cast, could have done better. The set design was stunning and the cinematography was great.

The areas of weakness were the editing and its interaction with the convoluted plot. I don't object to a convoluted plot. I rather like twists and turns. Opportunities were missed. The same story could have been told with fewer actors and better direction. At one point a character expresses regret, but without the non verbal indications of shame. It looses credibility long before this point.

Abuse of the android could have been indicated without the long screens of Jack 2.

I'm not one for gratuitous violence but a build up would have helped the plot.

I watched it all the way through, but it's disappointing. So much potential not achieved.

Average.
mDanHam14 April 2021
First of all, the story description they give you on IMDB (same as on Redbox) tells too much, but is also somewhat inaccurate. It is a pretty good idea but it is undermined by low budget production. If you can get through the first half-hour, which is in serious need of editing, it's a decent story that explores our obsession with voyeuristic TV-watching and raises ethical questions regarding technology, politics, etc. There are some glaring implausibilities and "Huh?" moments that you have to overlook if you are going to be entertained by this.

I really enjoyed it - nice idea - decent script - some terrible acting - but also some great acting by the lead.

Couple of cleverly done scenes as well.

clancy_magnus13 March 2021
Obviously made by a smaller outfit, not a massive production. But for me that didn't take away from the movie. Writing was solid and I really enjoyed it. Worth a watch for sure

Enjoyable sci-fi
aluntracey6 April 2021
I enjoyed this film very much, a little different from the run of the mill but a solid film, the acting is good apart from one or two of the cast who seem stilted, that shows the budget constraints I suppose but overall kept me entertained for the duration and what more can you ask for, not for everyone but what is.
