'Tis the season for renewals and cancellations! Every May, the major networks and streamers give their Upfronts presentations, which teases their upcoming slate of content, and that usually comes hand in hand with shows being renewed, shows being canceled, and shows left precariously on the bubble. We've recently learned a lot of news about what's to come for Netflix!
While some networks remain tight-lipped about renewals, Netflix didn't waste the opportunity to make lots of announcements. The streamer's Upfronts presentation in May 2025 brought the exciting reveals of newly announced shows and movies, as well as the renewals of six hit and fan-favorite scripted series and two unscripted series. These are the six scripted comedies and dramas the streamer renewed:
Bridgerton season 5 and 6Forever season 2My Life with the Walter Boys season 3Survival of the Thickest season 3The Diplomat season 4The Four Seasons season 2

If you’re ready for more idyllic scenery, swooning romance and life-or-death drama, good news: “Sullivan’s Crossing” Season 3 is finally here. Based on the novels by “Virgin River” author Robyn Carr, the series follows young neurosurgeon Maggie (Morgan Kohan) back to her hometown in Sullivan’s Crossing after her life in Boston falls apart.
Season 1 found her torn between small town charms and the life she built in Boston, but Maggie started to reconnect with her long estranged father, Sully (Scott Patterson), and found an unexpected connection with a new local, Cal (Chad Michael Murray), who left his practice as a lawyer and came to Sullivan’s Crossing after his own heartbreaking life upheavals.
Season 2 really honed in on Maggie’s pull between the two lives and deepened the roots she set down in Sullivan’s Crossing in Season 1, strengthening her bond with Sully and falling even more for Cal.

We might be heading back to the past in Virgin River season 7, according to the latest post from season 6 guest star Callum Kerr. In the post, the actor seemed to hint that he could be coming back to the series for another guest appearance, but his tease also has us wondering if Netflix has finally made a decision about that long in-development prequel series.
Earlier this week, Kerr posted a photo of himself standing in front of a black background with Virgin River and Netflix written on it multiple times. He's all smiles, which seems to mirror the sentiment of his caption: "We running this back?" To further solidify the fact that he's teasing fans about his potential return, Kerr used the smirking emoji before tagging both the show and the streamer.

Fans are anxious for updates about Virgin River season 7, and while nothing official has come in about a premiere date…we’re desperate for info!
Well, at Just Jared, we have found some clues that could point to possible debut timelines, based on past seasons schedules!
Keep reading to find out more…
According to Netflix insider site What’s on Netflix, season seven is currently in production and will wrap up filming on June 26, 2025.
Filming for season six spanned from February-May, 2024, and that season was able to debut just a few months later in December of 2024. It took a total of 7 months in post-production for season six’s debut.
If we’re using a similar timeframe, it seems like Virgin River season 7 could end up debuting very early in 2026. Following the season six math, season seven could debut as early as late January 2026, which would be seven months after the June 26, 2025 filming end date.

Netflix is the leading streaming platform, there really is no doubt about that! The streamer has so much good original content, and there's so many shows that we're excited to see back on our screens. And though 2025 has gotten off to a great start so far, there's still so many highly-anticipated Netflix shows whose new seasons we're eagerly waiting for.
Of course one could argue that Stranger Things season 5, aka the final season, is the biggest one that has all the anticipation around it. It's been confirmed that we'll return to Hawkins one last time in 2025, but there's still no confirmed release date, or a release month even.
We're already almost halfway through the year, and still haven't gotten any updates regarding the release date! Not to be dramatic, but Netflix is definitely holding us captive waiting for more announcements. Check out which other shows are on the waiting list...

There used to be a time when, wherever you worked, television could send people in droves to the water cooler to talk about the latest episode of a buzzworthy series that everyone tuned in to.
These series earned the title of “water cooler shows” because you could guarantee that everyone would be talking about everything that transpired the following day.
I still remember the Golden Era of American Idol when my entire family would race home just in time to see specific performances, participate in Facebook groups, and watch parties devoted to Scandal every week.
(Courtesy of HBO)
Shows like Succession and Game of Thrones would set the internet ablaze faithfully during and after every single installment until their ends.
Maybe we don’t gather around a water cooler or unpack a series during lunch breaks with our colleagues. However, we still live-tweet episodes on social media platforms and discussion boards,...

Following the release of Ransom Canyon on April 17, Netflix hasn't confirmed future plans for the series with a season 2 renewal. It's too early for the streamer to decide on the new show's fate right after the premiere, but lately, Netflix has been granting early renewals for second seasons of breakout shows like Nobody Wants This and Running Point. Well, this should be their next safe bet.
The day after Ransom Canyon premiered, the series debuted at the #1 spot on Netflix's daily top 10 most popular shows ranking in the United States, and it's sure to stay put for quite some time, as well as pick up additional high chart placements worldwide. If you grew up watching American soap operas, chances are you’ve seen both Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly before. Or rather, you feel like you’ve grown up with them, and seeing them star in a show together, all these years later, feels pretty great. While I’m only slightly too young to have seen those shows, I’ve definitely seen both actors in movies such as Life As We Know It and The Roommate, both of which are successful in their own right. So, not only do I get the hype, but I also get the simultaneously joyous and melancholic feeling of nostalgia one gets when watching them on screen again.

The Writers Guild of America asked members on Friday to uphold disciplinary actions against four of their brethren who are accused of violating guild rules during the 2023 strike.
Three of the writers — Edward John Drake, Roma Roth and Julie Bush — are accused of performing forbidden “writing services” in violation of union solidarity. A fourth member, Tim Doyle, is accused of making an off-color joke in a Facebook group of fellow writers.
The WGA West board voted to expel Drake and Roth, the severest form of punishment for guild rule violations. Bush was given a temporary suspension and a lifetime ban on serving as a strike captain, while Doyle was given a public censure.
All four are appealing the discipline to the general membership. Three other members, who were not identified, were also found guilty by trial committees of writing during the strike. Those members elected not to appeal.

The thing is, with Charmaine, less is more. Fortunately, Charmaine has simmered down since having the twins and even taken a backseat.

With Will Trent’s buzzy third season setting the TV ratings on fire, I’ve been thinking a lot about Ramon Rodriguez‘s previous TV roles.
On Will Trent, he plays a charismatic special agent with a past who is known for being highly observant and solving the highest proportion of cases in the Gbi.
Ramon embodies the character to perfection, showing every facet of his emotion.
(Showtime/Screenshot)
While the series has focused on some serious aspects, Will’s infectious personality has solidified him as one of the best characters on the small screen.
Ramon has had interesting roles throughout his career, such as Bakuto in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Ryan Lopez on Fox’s one-and-done Gang Related.

It’s that time we’ve all dreaded.
After The Pitt Season 1‘s exhilarating first season that kept us on the edge of our collective seats, the shift is over.
It’s time to clock out for the season, but not before The Pitt Season 1 Episode 15 closes things out with the last hour of an extended shift from absolute hell.
(Warrick Page/Max)
Of course, it’s been heaven for all of us watching it, as we’ve completely fallen in love with The Pitt’s remarkable cast and this fantastically written series that no one can stop lauding.
As we saw, The Pitt Season 1 Episode 14 wrapped up the last bits of the mass shooting. However, it doesn’t mean that the effects of it don’t linger on remaining patients and the doctors who spent the better part of three hours desperately trying to save lives after getting pushed to their limit.

About seven years ago, author Laura van den Berg wrote a short story called Your Second Wife, which was published by Lenny Letter (and you can still read it online at This Link). That story recently came to the attention of Jessica Rothe, star of the Happy Death Day films – and now, Deadline reports that Rothe is producing an erotic thriller series adaptation of Your Second Wife for the Max streaming service!
Created by Your Friends & Neighbors writer/executive producer Jamie Rosengard, the Your Second Wife series will follow Liana Dunn, an aspiring actress-turned-high school theater teacher trapped in stasis on Long Island. Struggling to move on from the death of her sister, Liana cultivates an unconventional double life that proves too intoxicating for her to give up … even when it places her life in imminent danger. Virgin River is one of Netflix’s biggest fan favorite TV shows – and their longest running original series, too!
The series was renewed for a seventh season in 2024, and we know filming has already started. So, when can we expect the new season to debut?
Well, we have some clues, based on past seasons!

Netflix Scraps ‘Stories’ Mobile Games Franchise Based on ‘Love Is Blind,’ ‘Virgin River’ and More IP

Netflix will no longer make games for “Netflix Stories,” its catalog of interactive fiction games mainly based on romance and dating-focused series. The streamer confirmed that its new gaming strategy will now stick to mobile titles across party games, narrative games, kids games and mainstream games, as well as more games that can be played on TV. As part of the reorg, an undetermined number of staffers have been laid off from the division.
Netflix had invested quite a bit previously on its “Stories” franchise, which served as the home for a set of interactive fiction games based on Netflix series like “Virgin River,” “Love is Blind,” “Emily in Paris,” “Outer Banks” and “Perfect Match.” Most recently, a “Sweet Magnolias” game was released in February, but a previously announced game centered on the “Ginny & Georgia” TV series will no longer be released.

Updated, March 27, 2025: A new trailer, set to “Texas Sun” by Khruangbin and Leon Bridges, has arrived for Netflix’s latest Wester TV series Ransom Canyon, based on the book by Jodi Thomas.
“In Ransom Canyon,” Josh Duhamel’s voice says over shots of ranchers riding horses, the main thoroughfare of the small Texas town, high school football games and more. “Everyone’s running from something, or running to something.”
Duhamel stars as Staten Kirkland, one of the main ranchers in the titular town, who is part of a large ensemble of the new Netflix show, out April 17.
“What’s up with that guy anyway?” Jack Schumacher’s Yancy Grey, who can be seen later on in the trailer risking it all for a rodeo ride, asks Cap Fuller (James Brolin) about the stoic Staten.
“He lost everything,” Brolin replies over a montage of a car wreck and police sirens.

Get ready for some more small-town charm and feel-good drama because Virgin River is officially in production for Season 7. Since its debut on Netflix in 2019, the romantic drama has consistently released a season each year, and it looks like the makers are committed to maintaining that schedule. All 10 episodes of Season 6 dropped on the streamer in December 2024, ending with a little cliffhanger that didn't leave much to worry about for the fans, given that Season 7 had already been ordered months ahead of the Season 6 premiere. The latest update comes from the show's star, Martin Henderson, who plays Jack Sheridan, one half of the show's central couple.

It's almost hard to believe that "Virgin River" is among the longest-running series on Netflix, having aired six seasons and been renewed for a seventh, which is likely arriving sometime later this calendar year. But while it may not be the flashiest show that the famed streamer airs, "Virgin River" is a stalwart romantic drama, adapted from the novels by author Robyn Carr. It offers fans plenty of soap-opera-style drama, focused on a vast ensemble beyond leading lady Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and her now-husband Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson). From the start, the series has had plenty of storylines separate from how Mel and Jack meet and fall in love. But even if the subplots themselves don't always hit home, "Virgin River" is nothing short of a feast for the eyes when it comes to the show's locations.

When it comes to divisive love interests of morally grey protagonists, AMC surely takes the cake with two of its most lucrative IPs, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. Charmaine, Charmaine, Charmaine... She's the character Virgin River fans love to hate, and it's been that way from the very beginning. As a foil or "villain" for the main heroes of the Netflix original romantic drama series, she's expertly written and fun to watch. But she's admittedly a character who's hard to root for because she makes a lot of irredeemable decisions, one being lying to Jack about being pregnant with his twin sons. That was a big lie, Charmaine!
In the most recent seasons of Virgin River, Charmaine has mostly been redeemed, though, having finally given birth to her sons and repairing her relationship with those she had lied to (mostly Jack). She's becoming more accepted as a member of the community and settling into motherhood, but that season 6 cliffhanger throws a wrench in her newly peaceful life. Jack enters her home to find the twins — and possibly Charmaine — missing.

Sometimes you know what people are watching on Netflix just by being part of culture. It’s not going to shock anyone to learn that “Squid Game” and the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight were, indeed, hits.

If you're a Virgin River fan, then it's no secret that you're waiting ever so impatiently for the series to make its way back to your watch list. The sixth season made its premiere on Netflix back in December 2024, and before that season was even released, the streaming service had already confirmed the beloved romantic drama would be back with the renewal of season 7.
Unfortunately, the wait for Virgin River season 7 might be a little longer than some fans might have hoped. When Netflix shared its upcoming series releases for 2025, Virgin River was left off that list, meaning season 7 could be delayed for release until 2026. But even before cameras have started rolling on the next season, we're already hearing positive updates about the next next season.
According to a report from What's on Netflix in January 2025, discussions had already begun about a potential eighth season of the hit series. The...

The success of The Night Agent is apparently not a one-season phenomenon.
The Netflix thriller recorded its biggest week to date with the opening of its second season. The show amassed 3.11 billion minutes of viewing for the week of Jan. 20-26 (season two premiered Jan. 23), according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings, topping its previous best of 3.06 billion minutes in March 2023.
Nielsen says viewing of season two accounted for 76 percent of the weekly total, which works out to about 2.36 billion minutes.
After making its debut on the streaming charts a week earlier, Apple TV+’s Severance improved a little on that performance with 622 million minutes of viewing (a gain of about 6 percent week to week). That’s the highest weekly total for any Apple TV+ show since Ted Lasso in 2023.
The previous week’s overall No. 1, Netflix’s movie Back in Action, came down a little bit but still had a...

Netflix‘s popular romantic drama Virgin River is preparing for a prequel series, but not all fans are on the same page following showrunner Patrick Smith’s teases about the upcoming spinoff. In an interview with Variety in December, Smith opened up about how the prequel will focus on Mel Monroe’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) parents, Sarah and Everett, played by Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr, respectively. The actors made their debut in flashbacks in Season 6 and are now set to have their romance explored in a series of their own. The spinoff, Smith said, will focus “not just the romance of Sarah and Everett, but also the origins of Virgin River in the 1970s.” However, many fans are unsure whether a spinoff about Mel’s parents is necessary, with one Reddit user writing, “Why are they making a prequel based off Mel’s parents? She’s not even a likable character.
