Absolute garbage ending.
legionfuryjoshua24 March 2019
Now I thought this movie was interesting and I could get behind it for a couple of reason, but I absolutely think that you should not waste your time on this movie. It's sets up nice for a good ending and has a couple of choices. Now think of the worst possible ending to your favorite movie and that's what happens here. Just makes no sense. Other review people are saying "MeN aRe AfRaId Of ThE mE tOo MoVeMeNt". Not at all, I was here for a good movie and they absolutely destroyed the ending. I've never been more mad at an ending than this. Doesn't satisfy a single side and leaves you mind blow about how bad that ending was. I give the overall movie an 7 and the ending a 1. BIG WASTE OF TIME, and will leave you upset. lmaooooo

Seriously? The series is called Into the Dark. Nothing about this episode seemed dark to me. It was really confusing. I turned it off after the first 20 minutes it was so boring. What holiday is this supposed to be anyways?

Not enough back story/forced script
Paisa529 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The entire revenge plot is about Becca, a young woman who killed herself because the celebrity Chef raped her, but she doesn't have any lines in the movie. It's sad that the entire movie was supposed to be empowering for women, yet the victim in the movie was robbed of her voice. I think the movie could have been a lot scarier if the scenes at the house weren't parlor tricks. A supernatural element would have helped a lot. I didn't like that they had to scare the guy into changing by making him think there are witches all over watching his every move. True remorse and intentional change would have been a just end... it would have also been proper revenge. As a final note, I think everyone cast in the movie is talented and has done great work in the past, but the dialogue was awkward and forced. As a Hispanic woman, it was really cringey to watch Stephanie Beatriz act out such a stereotype.

Disappointing
jessicawedwards3 March 2019
I feel like they passed up a great opportunity to make a St. Patrick's Day or Mardi Gras episode. Instead, we get a poor, semi-version of 'New Year, New You', but no where near as good. Not scary, no characters to really root for, kind of boring.

Worst of the series so far
suziety32 March 2019
I've been enjoying the series so far but this one just didn't seem to work for new. And I still can't work out what the holiday was meant to be?

Embarrassingly bad.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a sad, sad attempt at creating commentary on the #metoo movement while fundamentally misunderstanding what it's actually about. If it's trying to empower women, it backfires spectacularly, for one by portraying women who stick up for themselves as literal witches - a tactic which has been used to oppress outspoken women for centuries. Besides that, the writing and acting is so terrible that it makes a caricature out of legitimate dialogue advocates are trying to have. It would almost be funny if it weren't so counterproductive.

Don't waste your time on this movie unless you want a really great example of what happens when men try to speak for women without actually listening to them.

I enjoyed it, even though there were some plot issues.

Warning: Spoilers
Just in case anyone was wondering what holiday this was (I had a hard time figuring it out too) the director recently confirmed in an interview it was about international women's day (which happens to also be today, March 8th). Knowing that makes the message of the movie understandable.

***Spoilers below*** I enjoyed it but found there were a lot of issues with the explanations on how and why things happened. He was drugged with some flower that causes paralysis and hallucinations. Ok, but that doesn't explain why the weird housekeeper looked in the mirror and stuck out her lizard tongue while alone. If he wasn't around to see that, and these ladies aren't actually witches just pretending, why does she do that and why does she have a deformed tongue. It added nothing to the movie except maybe the director thought it would look cool? Also, when he comes home and finds a painting his father supposedly did of the scene of his ex-girlfriend's suicide why isn't he more freaked out? Clearly he didn't like it and he knew what it was referring to since he called it morbid. Why didn't he take it down? Or question how his father knew the exact circumstances of her suicide? I also agree with the people who say it was hard to root for the main character. He was such a dick that you kinda wanted him to die. But on the same hand, I didn't particularly care for any of the "witches" either. So who do we root for? All in all it was fun to watch as long as you take everything with a grain of salt.

What a waste of good actors.
Yawn. What favor did these people owe to participate in this waste of time. And James Roday... maybe you have a dark side but you are way better at the lighter stuff. Stay in your lane bro.

Obviously people don't understand it.

Warning: Spoilers
I like the movie. It's not a master piece, obviously, but it's actually good. For some reason it has a low rating here, and I kind of know why. Firstly, the things that I didn't like: 1.The direction, the camera moved too erratically. 2. Some of the acting. The main character's screams were truly awful. Now the things that I like: the plot and what they were trying to say. The premise was good, he was a rapist and they had to teach him a lesson. And they way they did so was original. And it worked. I also like that they used the stereotype that women are witches and then they used a plot twist which was realistic in a way and also funny. Those women should do that as a job. They are good. I also like how they showed the sorority between women. And I absolutely loved when the women made him run with high heels. I'm tired of watching horror movies where the women are always chasing while wearing high heels. It was a good movie, I get why they were trying to portray. It's sad that so many don't.

Warning: Spoilers
Very slow to ramp up. Some bad and stereotypical characters. Rosa from Brooklyn 99! But yikes, I could've done without seeing her in this.

Forgettable. Lots of eye rolling moments. Unlikeable characters. The trailer didn't represent the movie well either.

But Like, This Movie is Good?
hfreeburg14 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I've been making my way through all of the Into the Dark movies and when I saw what low ratings it was I thought it was going to suck but for me it was an amazing movie. I'm a sucker for movies full of pop culture references and the character Peter makes some amazing ones. When I first saw the black goat I was like "is the goat from The Witch in this movie?" and then Peter calls the goat Black Phillip. A Ted Bundy AND Charles Manson reference? Um yes please. And I genuinely laughed out loud when he mentioned Rusted Root. I liked this movie because I had no idea what was going to happen next. The best is the end because I figured they would kill Peter but the fact that they let him live, but forever in fear of losing his dick or whatever, is a far better ending than just killing him. Peter had an Ebenezer Scrooge moment, that is of A Christmas Carol was directed by Eli Roth and there's a ghost of Christmas oh please don't cut off my dick.

Warning: Spoilers
Being a me too survivor, the ending of this movie had me in tears.

This is not a "horror" movie. If you want that, watch one of the other into the darks. It starts slow and then gets darker and creepier (the creepiest person being the old woman). The twist at the end isn't clever per say, as movies go, but in a realistic sense? Totally. Imagine scaring your rapist into believing in witches.

And at the end of the day, I'd rather have every toxic man and assaulter/rapist change than be killed or hurt.

Wow, not sure how someone approved this junk. It's almost the worst thing ever. The third episode Pooka is even worse that this. Don't waste your time. The other episodes are worth a watch though.

I've never watched this series before, but if this is any indication, forget it. I have seen "revenge" type movies in the past and this was the absolute worst. In fact, this one took the cake. It's "all a dream". Or was it?

Utter rubbish
DHosis11 March 2019
Thumbing through the Hulu categories on Roku, this was at the top of one of the lists. Didn't realize this was part of a series (ala "Black Mirror").

Not sure if it's a fortune or unfortunate event that this was the first episode I watched.

It's absolute rubbish. I won't be watching any others.

Boring and silly
ghostofht20 March 2019
Takes 50 mins for anything to happen, then even when 'plot' unfolds, there's still with very little happening except silliness and so much talking. One has to wonder when rubbish like this gets a green light if it's because of nepotism

Modern Revenge with a Touch of Scares
MovieQween-336224 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Women rule this story. A group of women enact revenge on a selfish man who has disrespected and raped a woman who killed herself because of his actions. Only the girl's sister and our main characyer's skster knows the truth. It's much less of a supernatural horror and is more real life horror. There are some scenes that are corny and satirical but in the end you realize it why. Decent non-traditional movie with a very important and relevant message!

Deeply Stupid
Foxbarking23 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There are a couple other reviews of this episode that seem to think only conservative men who like Trump did not like this movie. I think that is a very unfair assumption to make. I am a deeply liberal. I voted for Hillary Clinton three times in my life: 2008 and 2016 primaries and 2016 general election. I am a male who is proud to call himself a feminist. And this movie was awful.

The main issue is the actions taken by the women don't make them any better than Peter was. I understand he is definitely not a good person, but neither are they. They kidnapped him, tortured him, drugged him and then lied about who they were.

I am sorry, that is not what feminism or the #MeToo movement are about. We are not about descending to a level and trying to scare people into being nice people. It is about standing up for the rights of women and protecting women who might need protection. It is about women being allowed to go to work and make the same money as a man makes and not be intimidated. It is not about empowering women by drugging, kidnapping, restraining, threatening and humiliating bad men.,

Peter was a despicable lowlife, but these women were too.

Don't listen to the negative reviews
mckludge200210 July 2019
This was actually a decent episode. A little slow starting but it gets really good. Unless you're a woman hating man, or someone who supports the #metoo movement and can't decern a si-fi show from reality, you'll probably enjoy this too. I say give it a chance before listening to the negative reviews on it, which were probably written by one of the two people described above.

Either way I think it delivered the message it intended to get across.

Lots of ridiculous reviews here
saintcharlie18 March 2019
I literally made an account to counter the awfully unfair reviews this movie is getting. I truly believe so many of you picked something you hated and just ran with it. Seriously, don't be so hard on something trying to tackle an extremely sensitive topic. I thought the movie did a fine job playing with the idea of how to fix what otherwise seems unfixable. And for anyone trying to water down what the protagonist did to warrant this violent reaction is just wrong, he commuted an awful crime and I enjoyed watching him be toyed with.

Dont listen to the trolls
natepritchard7814 March 2019
If people needed to go out of their way to make an IMDb acct just to express outrage they aren't worth listening to. Talk about soft right? I mean these flakes will then turn around and call others out for being soft. Straight delusional.

This episode of Into the Dark was fun. I think it was very well done and to be frank teaches forgiveness is possible. People can change. People can learn. People do grow.

Watch Out! Long straight road ahead, with no twists or turns.
kepeb28 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
While this is fresh in my mind, I should warn others. Read about alternate endings below!

Production is pretty good, the two leads are pretty good. If you are expecting a twist or some kind of moral lesson/story here, you will be very disappointed. The characters and plot are quickly established, in fact multiple unused dead-end plot points are also established. Before the mid way point we are told the unlikely group next door are witches, what follows is a long, slow crawl to a predictable end with a resounding empty 'doink' at the end.

Littered with #Meetoo, Smash the Patriarchy, MenBad propaganda throughout, while simultaneously including female characters so stereotypical it was borderline racist.

Ending 1: The 'coven' is shocked to learn about a double cross from the sister. After almost destroying the lives of a chef and his family with an online twitter campaign based on hearsay alone. The siblings plan and record the entire evil scenario with cctv and give it to the police.

Ending 2: After having his life changed forever over continual false claims by a diverse group of 'Justice Warriors'. The middle aged chef commits suicide and leaves his sister and daughter heartbroken. It then transpires the woman on the hill was a nutcase and her entire story was made up from the beginning. #BelieveWomen
