Bob Biswas is basically Bourn Identity with Jon Wick world rules.
shivnarang3 December 2021
This is both a spin-off and a prequel to Kahaani (2012) and at the same time an origins story of the assassin Bob Biswas from that movie.

In that movie this role was played by actor Saswata Chatterjee. Where as here Abhishek Bachchan plays a slightly younger version of that character.

The story is about this middle aged guys who we are told has lost his memory in a accident and doesn't remember anything. Then he is discharged to a family in a very Overboard kind of situation, but not really.

He is then picked up by two men who may or may not be cops. They tell him that they are the ones to be thanked for his freedom from his previous life as an assassin and they need to now work for him. Are they telling the truth or are they just using him? He doesn't know. Neither do we. And that's the fun of it. Does he get his memory back? Does he get all the answers?

Abhishek Bachchan is just outstanding in this role. He gives it his all. This effort form home to reform himself has been showing constantly in his recent movies and I'm all for it.

Supporting him are other great actors who don't really get to deliver much other than Chitrangda Singh who plays his wife. She has a bit more substantial role compared to other supporting characters and does get a chance to Display her performance charm.

Junior Bacchan Made the Role his very Own!
SoumikBanerjee19965 December 2021
'Bob Biswas'; The Man, The Myth, The Legend. I'm just delighted that he finally got his stand-alone feature. Frankly speaking, it was long overdue! Since the release of Kahaani, back in 2012; I have been waiting for this day to come.

What was initially imitated by the Bengali Veteran, Saswata Chatterjee; for one reason or another, the role eventually landed in Junior Bacchan's Lap!

And Boy Oh Boy! Did he grab this opportunity with both hands.

Generally, I despise iconic roles being given to anybody other than the primary individual. In this case though, things are quite different. All thanks to Abhishek Bacchan; to put it in simpler words, he made the role his own. I know and I'm very much aware of his capacity as an out and out performer, but still, I wasn't expecting him to nail this specific role in this way and that too in such an elegant manner!

Now, the film itself isn't some embodiment of perfection, by no stretch of the imagination! Various arguments can be applied in regards to its comparatively dreary Screenplay or a myriad of vulnerable loopholes! Even the character developments, definitely not the strongest suit.

However, what it does best is that it empowers Bob Biswas with a sturdy enough platform, gives him this fairly newer personality, at the same time, showcases a rather personal side that was all hidden behind this veil of a psychotic, relentless murderer!

Bob deserved a better spinoff!!
nadkarnisumeet4 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Bob Biswas review :

"Namoshkar. Aami Bob Biswas. Ek Minute". Bang!!

The sheer scare created by this iconic hired assassin of Sujoy Ghosh's outstanding Kahaani (2012) lend itself to a spinoff which has arrived nine years after the original with Abhishek Bachchan replacing the extraordinary Saswata Chatterjee from Kahaani.

Bob is back home after suffering a memory loss in an accident. We aren't told what exactly happened to him but instead, get to meet his family comprising wife (Chitrangada Singh), son (Ronith Aurora) and step daughter (Samara Tijori). Quickly enough, Bob is contacted by his ex- employer to get in to action and the modus operandi remains same as before. A pic is sent on Bob's flip-top mobile with a name. Bob traces the person and shoots him down. There is a drug racket angle added to the plot with a blue coloured pill becoming a hit amongst students as it can increase their concentration for exams. Whateva!!

While Bob's character engages you primarily due to its strong preceedence, the overall screenplay has lot of loopholes with incomplete ends. The accident angle, for first. Why Bob bumps off his bestie is also left to ones imagination. Also, who gives him the assignment in the end? Well, too many plot points remain unanswered here!!

Of the cast, Abhishek Bachchan delivers a competent performance in the titular role but is unable to match the level of Saswata's brilliance in Kahaani. It's great to see Chitrangada Singh on screen after long and the ever gorgeous actor oozes sheer charm and sex appeal even in a non-glamour role. She is indeed a treat to watch as Bob's supportive wife. Note her reaction when her boss (Amar Upadhyay) makes a blatant pass at her. That scene is indeed taalimaar!! Samara Tijori, playing the college kiddo hooked on to drugs, is a good find. My personal favourite character in the film was the elderly Kali da played wonderfully by Paran Bandopadhyay. The scenes between him and Abhishek are top class. The Shri Krishna's Kaalia mardan analogy is also beautifully woven in here.

Clearly, Sujoy has the ability to write some great characters but isnt able to weave them in to a gripping screenplay this time like he did with Kahaani. Nevertheless, Bob Biswas makes for a nice one time watch on Zee5 but undoubtedly, this one had the potential to become the next Kahaani or surpass that...the film misses this bus!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

Bob Biswas
kiran3533 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Nomoskar, me Bob Biswas, loved the script from starting till end. It's the Desi version of John Wick. I loved the way the movie was connecting all the dots slowly and at the end it was connected to Kahaani franchise . Excellent story and acting by Abhishek Bachchan and Chitrangdha and loved the dialogues too " As you do so shall you reap and the references to mythology . No one kills Kali Daa the idea was taken from John Wick. Some scenes were also taken from John Wick but overall adapted well and nice acting by the lead actors including the aspiring doctor and the kid. Sujoy Ghose has nailed it and good comeback for Abhishek Bachchan after a long time. The movie should have been released in big screens for better visual experience.

Abhishek does a fine job of getting under Skin of Bob.

The story build up at start but again it scatters all over.

Towards end picks up pace & ends on a decent note.

BGM & Cinematography deserves applause.

Overall a good spin-off!! Maybe first in Bollywood.

Kudos to debutant director :)

An AVERAGE Watch.
MandalBros-55 December 2021
When one is making a spin-off of a great thriller, usually our expectations become high. So, in that case I'll say it's a disappointment. No character has been written in right way. Each one of them is unpredictable, this may act as a positive point for many, but I find it as negative. After finishing the film, you'll forget all the characters except 'Kali Da'.

Acting wise everyone was okay, not extraordinary. Another negative point is that the timeline of this story is not revealed, if it's a prequel there are too many loopholes and if it's a sequel (which I'm sure it is) there are still many. So many questions remain unanswered, if they want to make another sequel then writing should be very strong. Now, as the name 'Kahaani' is associated with it, I don't think anyone will miss it. So, despite being an average thriller I'll say WATCH IT.

Available on Zee5.

Abhishek rocks but story does not.
rrdeo224 December 2021
It did not make much sense. Attention to details was missing. Climax was disappointing. Did not match caliber of the original character story Kahaani.

Giving 5 only for Abhishek.

Pointed Thriller
nairtejas6 December 2021
The first kill in Bob Biswas is from where I got involved in the film, which carries a slow-fast pace throughout, as we dive deeper into the enigma that is Bob, a serial killer. Thanks to the persistent background score and Abhishek Bachchan's deadpan performance as the titular character, I breezed through this. Towards the end, I had to sit up and seek the media player backward to make sense of what was going on. That is the pace I was talking about. A great affair.

Lost in translation!
frank-liesenborgs13 December 2021
"Bob Biswas" shows us the life of Bob, just woken up from a coma after 8 years and does not remember anything. Apart from the usual moral dilemmas of a man living two lives, Bob still remains a mystery. At the end of the movie, we still don't know why he does what he does. Lots of holes in the plot and storyline. Unrealistic pressures on students, easy access to drugs and a man who can walk after 8 years lying in a coma and is apparently still well-fed. I am not familiar with the cast but the acting was powerful. Just missing the storyline. And I was also struggling with the subtitles as I do not understand Hindi or Bengali. Therefore I can imagine that a part of the story was also lost in translation. If you are going to make a movie like this and all the actors apparently can speak English, why not making it completely in English? Therefore I can only give a 6/10.

Character adoption
sameerlodaya3 December 2021
Sameer lodaya

The character of bob has been adopted from the film kahaani and this movie is the extension of his life

It's a new and brilliant idea of character adoption from a super hit film but the execution is not great..the movie goes ultra slow in pace and starts in sad way..there is no reason which justifies bob's killings..Abhishek has played with great prosthetics..the movers have wasted time in a drug pill racket rather than they could had emphasised more on bobs role..the climax is pathetic and the movie does not produce that thrill which was required in a serial killer script

But still you can watch this new content.

Bob Biswas, On ZEE5, Is A Delicious Idea Squandered By Its Curiously Lame Script
shefali-592447 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A contract killer with amnesia. What an instantly delicious idea. In Bob Biswas, filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh revisits one of his most famous creations - the murderous life insurance agent from Kahaani who threw Vidya Bagchi into the path of a metro train, then pulled her back and solicitously suggested that Kolkata was a dangerous city. "Yahan kahin bhi, kabhi bhi kuch bhi ho sakta hai."

Bob, played superbly by Saswata Chatterjee, was a masterstroke - a seemingly nondescript, mild-mannered man who said Nomoshkar to his victims before disposing of them. When the pot-bellied, balding Bob appeared behind Vidya at the metro station, he sent a chill down your spine. The character, who was only onscreen for some eight minutes, became a sensation.

Highly Satisfying
ssmanian-117044 December 2021
I enjoyed this movie.

Surprisingly Abhishek Bachchan did a great job in portraying Bob Biswas, as an assassin who has loss of memory.

Bob Biswas is a character from the movie 'Kahaani' in which Vidya Balan starred.

Sometimes, we tend to measure Abhishek with a tall yardstick; i.e the senior Bachchan.

Abhishek too have his strengths.

Lacklustre Writing
IPyaarCinema9 December 2021
Review By Kamal K

Abhishek Bachchan brings his own unique take on the character of Bob Biswas, made iconic by Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee in Kahaani. Bachchan is sincere and earnest in his performance, but lacks the chillingly placid menace that Saswata Chatterjee exuded so effortlessly in Kahaani. The fault, though, is not the actor's, but the writer's. Bob Biswas, as depicted in this iteration of the character, is insipid, listless and downright boring.

Chitrangada Singh is average as Mary. Newcomer Samara Tijori catches the eye as their burdened teenaged daughter, Mini.

A very special mention is needed for Paran Bandopadhyay's character of Kali Da. Kali Da is one character in Bob Biswas that walks away with all the attention, much like Saswata Chatterjee's character did in Kahaani. Despite barely five minutes of screen time, Kali Da manages to imprint his presence on the larger canvas of the film. He has the best scenes and dialogues in the film, and hogs all the limelight.

Negatives -

The story by Sujoy Ghosh could have been way better The cinematography by Gairik Sarkar could have showcased the locales of Kolkata a bit better Bgm Uninteresting antagonists.

BabySharkDoDoDie5 December 2021
A painfully slow & boring film with same old drug related story filled with unnecessary background songs, filler dialogues & uninteresting characters. You feel nothing about the main character. Overall a below average & outdated storytelling with predictable plot. A waste of 2 hrs! People rating this higher should start watching some good crime thrillers.
