#FinalVerdict

The rules of entertainment are altering rapidly because Hindi movie heroine is now being looked up with strengths, shortcomings, mistakes and achievements. She is ready to conduct experiments, equipped to explore uncharted lands. This holds for Kangana Ranaut, one of the most talented actresses of our time. The famous actress has persistently paved the way vis-a-vis her choice of movies. Also, director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari needs no introduction. With her debut film Nil Battey Sannata (2016), she had the audience sit up and take notice of her work. Panga, her latest offering, once again has you, as an audience, asking a question. Honestly, women's stories are not really exemplified conscientiously since Bollywood is branded for creating movies from a male perspective. But the souk of women-centric flicks is quickly turning out to be a bankable genre. Panga is a commanding tale, has an authoritative central character, has several dominant and thought-provoking moments, making it an all-persuasive film.

Panga is thought-provoking, articulate and clear. It brings the subject to light but Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari neither imposes her opinion on the audience nor do her characters. Each actor extends his or her arm within the ambit of their circumstances, never once attempting to go beyond it. That's the brilliance of this film. This is Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's trademark. She is like the music conductor who knows the symphony like the palm of her hand and directs every actor with the delicate swish of her experienced baton. Of course, the film is built on the classic theme that a talented athlete has a dream to place at the top of the stool at the big international tournaments, where the road to it is not just straightforward but full of bumps and dents that need to be forced, which puts both the psyche and the physics to a hard test. And then, of course, it turns out in the end that iron willpower can pave the way for the dream to come true. The director does manage to make an extremely worthwhile and quite entertaining film, packed with both dramatic and exciting moments.

It is absolutely amazing to experience how camera movement (Jay I. Patel), editing (Ballu Saluja), music (Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy) and other technical aspects of Panga blend together to form a cinematic experience that, in terms of quality, rises to a level where the entertainment value is of an entirely exceptional character. In terms of action, Panga is fantastic storytelling, where the story writers (Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Nikhil Mehrotra) have managed to convey a story through the visual media to an unparalleled degree and turned it into a gripping, captivating, educational and uplifting and one of a kind experience. The film in many areas is also deeply touching. Director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari ensures that Panga retains its individuality and doesn't come across as a replica/clone of other immensely likeable films with sports drama as the backdrop. In fact, her handling of several light moments as well as dramatic ones is exemplary. With the skills of a master storyteller, she amalgamates a human story in a truly striking and attention-grabbing format. There is a certain uninhibited genuineness in Ashwiny's direction. Besides, the additional screenplay by Nitesh Tiwari is outstanding; one seldom witnesses such aptitude and deliberation to specifications. Without doubt, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari gives it her best shot with gleaming sincerity. There are a few hiccups, but not the type that really go against the film. However, the climax is the highpoint of this enterprise. Also, fragments of tongue in cheek humour pop up when you least anticipate to liven up the solemn plot.

The admiration for Kangana Ranaut has scaled woozy altitudes and let me affirm, the supremely talented actress delivers a performance that's at par with her former accomplishments. She re-evaluates screen acting in Panga. She arrives with yet another enlivening, commanding character in this film and her portrayal is sure to win laurels by assessors and cine-goers uniformly. Her body language, her confidence, her vulnerability, her fury, her grief, all fall upon wonderfully. Jassie Gill is a revelation. What a tremendous actor. His sequences with Kangana are truly wonderful. Neena Gupta proves yet again that she's an exceptional performer. She makes a stunning impact. Richa Chadha is, as always, efficient. She exhibits good screen presence and holds her ground firmly, despite Kangana's towering performance. She is exactly what the highly ranked coaches are made up of. Yagya Bhasin stands out with a terrific portrayal. He's is exceptional. Way to go, boy! Megha Burman shines as the young Kabbadi player.

On the whole, Panga raises questions, challenges the age-old customs and mirrors a reality most convincingly. A brilliant film embellished with bravura performances. The highs and lows, the triumphs and failures, the laughter and heartbreak... you smile, you laugh, you weep, you cheer, you feel ecstatic... Panga encompasses it all adroitly, with the finale leaving you exhilarated. Don't miss it for anything in the world. A film that deserves an ovation!

LOVE Panga...
rajdoctor1 February 2020
When I saw Panga's trailer - I was not impressed much. I found it to be a routine movie. But after the good reviews and rating from everywhere, I decided to go and see it. I love Kangana Ranaut. She is unusual, and brave. She has stood against the tide.

Panga is a story of a girl who was India Kabbadi's women's team captain, but left her sports career when she got pregnant. She devoted her life to her family - husband, son and her job - as a railway ticket counter clerk.

It was only after much ado - she was pushed by her son's desire to give a re-try to play kabbadi. That little effort to keep her son happy becomes a bigger desire to represent the Indian Kabbadi team again and play for India at International level.

The rest of the movie is about her and her family's struggle and support, the ups and downs of her journey to play for India again.

Does she succeed against all odds? She does.

Director and writer Ashwini Iyer Tiwari who was a working in advertising and who made Neel Batte Sannata earlier with Swara Bhaskar is in full form.

With a little bit of hesitation, but without taking credit away from her, it needs to be mentioned here that she is the wife of the Director Nitesh Tiwari who made Dangal and also has co-written the story, screenplay and dialogue of this movie. One cannot deny his role in her growth, but one cannot also take away any credit away from her as she is the honcho of this ship - Panga.

The movie presents the case of women's empowerment in a very subtle way - without much ado and fanfare or preachy lectures. The story and the everyday characters of the movie are woven with such ease that their response to each situation says a lot without a spoken words.

All credit to Kangana. She carries the film well on her shoulders. She stands like a giant - capturing the essence of the main protagonist Jaya Nigam. All the other actresses/ actors around her play best in their small yet well defined characters supporting the central character.

The winner of a movie is identified by the number of times it involuntarily makes our tears roll from our eyes. This movie touches the heart chords and makes us feel good within in the way the movie develops and grows from a slow-paced first half to the fast-forward of second-half and crescendo of an ending.

Special mention is given to Jessie Gill, who plays Kangana's soft and sweet and understanding husband. Richa Chaddha who plays Kangana's friend, Neena Gupta - Kangana's mother and Yagna Bhasin - Kangana' son have played their roles well.

The movie is a nice feel good movie that makes us go to the cinema halls.

I would go with 7.25 out of 10

Welcome to the Kangana show !!
madhukar3019 August 2020
Panga is a sports genre movie focusing on a sportsperson's comeback rather than the usual biopic or a team's targeted approach towards a tournament. Kangana Ranaut incredibly does it yet again in a memorable performance. Panga is a women's orientated movie which will inspire not only women but also some men.

Panga isn't perfect there are tons of loopholes in the screenplay and is riddled with flaws in almost all technical aspects, but the focus of the movie is inspiration, which I believe it does with flying colours. Yes, the screenplay is utterly predictable. Production design, editing, costumes and make up is just par. Cinematography could have been a little better especially for the sports scenes. But the idea of panga i believe is not to deliver these technical aspects but to deliver the story of a young woman's comeback after marriage & kids and to tell the audience, on really how hard it is to make such a comeback. All that Panga demands is to give the due respect, that such sportspersons deserve.

Kangana Ranaut in a terrific performance yet again, deserves a big round of applause. Richa Chaddha's goofy performance will steal hearts. Though a small role, Neena gupta's cameo will be remembered. All the other supporting actors played their part well. Overall Panga is a must watch movie for all women & in fact for entire families. Panga will not disappoint.

Simplistic, and with terrible volume
jeetendradhall24 March 2020
The movie sports scenes are just too simple, cannot compare the sophistication with Chak De or Dangal.

The most worst most terrible part is the volume. All the time I sat with remote in my hand raising and lowering volume. The slightest music and the volume rises 3x times. I dont know who is that genious who decided that this is good editing. Extremely disappointing, it has raised my temper and irritation so much that I wanted to write a review.

Must watch inspirational film
tpatoliya24 January 2020
'I am a mother and the mother has no dreams.' Directed by Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, this dialogue of 'Panga' will find every woman who has forgotten her dreams for her family and children and has lost her identity.

The story is fantastic and you love it. Kangana has played the character of Jaya Nigam as Effortless and Flawless. Whether it is his dress or body language, every aspect makes his character memorable. Instead of doing melodrama in the emotional scenes, Kangana has made him live with the twinge that your eyes cannot remain moist. He has lived both aspects of housewife and kabaddi player.

Richa Chadha's acting acts as a relief in the film. His dialogue and body language are spoken in Bihari Accent entertain immensely. The chemistry between the scenes between him and Kangana is seen. Jassie Gill has a smooth acting role as a supportive husband. His pairing with Kangana looks good.

Despite limited scenes, Neena Gupta leaves her mark. Child artist Yagna Bhasin has proved to be the attraction of the film. They captivate everyone with their innocent performances.

The quality of Ashwini Iyer Tiwari as a director is that the nuances with which she portrayed the working woman of a small town like Bhopal and her middle-class family on the screen add strength to the story.

The film reiterates the idea that it is never quite too late to start chasing your dream -- which gives it instant winnability. Don't miss this film, it will give you the courage to revive your dreams.

Inspiring yet underwhelming!
SoumikBanerjee199624 March 2020
Sports dramas are hard to execute. As it requires tight screenplay, great performances and that spark of passion in it. Panga lacks on every aspects there. Don't get me wrong; it's a pretty decent movie, but I would have liked it even more; had the screenplay was tighter. The underwhelming factors really toned down the positive sides and that's unfortunate. It had delivered some nice messages regarding Woman Empowerment and kind of shines the light on 'True Feminism'. Unlike some other films which had got the meaning of "Feminism" totally wrong! Panga tells you about a Mom's daily life story. It represents how A mother sacrifices all her dreams, wishes for their children, husband and the closed ones. At the same time it doesn't imply her family members or society as the culprit for her shattered dreams And that's different from so many stereotypes. I really loved how they put it all in a simplistic manner. Yet the same simplicity took away the core emotions from a Sports Drama that it was supposed to be. The sports is there, the struggles are there but It has focused more on family counterparts more than anything. Nurtured with some good performances from the cast, it fleshed out well on that front. Although I would have loved to see more diversity in those same characters. They all felt so one dimensional and predictable in nature that you do not really expect much surprises. The emotional pull was lacking. And that's somehow a Bad thing I guess. Cause a drama film should be packed with versatility rather than overarching ease in the nuisances. The cinematography, the sound score it all felt fine. The direction was neat too. The problem lies with the screenplay. The slow burner diminishes the actual vibe out of it. And the promising premise couldn't get to its full potential because of that!

Had great expectations from kangana
ijaz-mehthaz24 January 2020
Unlike all her other movies, this one seem to be bland or missing something...kangana was not on her best in this movie.. ashwinis direction was below average ... jassie gill needs some real acting classes.. kangana needs to put in a lot of effort in her movies rather than criticising other actors, because she have got the talent and most importantly she should learn how to invest on herself

A Good Movie !!!
LanternSwapnil23 July 2020
The adjustment between family drama and career have always been a critiacal situation for many Indian women. This movie portrays the same tone and Kangana and others played their parts so well. Story, I did not find much interesting but it was also not a boring movie. A good and decent movie it is.

Heartwarming and super inspiring story
cseabhi24 April 2020
Kangana is flawless as Jaya Nigam. She has done full justice to the character. As a mother and a wife and former sportswomen, dilema she has is well portyaed. Some scenes are really well shot.

Richa chadha as a coach is super smooth and compliments Kangana in this movie. Jassie Gill is good as a supportive husband and even his character should inspire many people.

Ashwini Iyer Tiwari has once again come up with a gem of a movie. The film is not without flaws but it excels and delivers a strong message.

An inspiring film.

Not great but not bad
OnjiMooteDaMarle16 May 2020
The film is about champion's come back, a wife and a mother and the pains it takes for her to make that come back to Kabaddi.

The film is good in it's simplicity of the story telling. There isn't any unwanted dramas or over the top dramas (but the director couldn't help but make it Bollywoodish at times specially the final moments). The acting is decent be it Kangna, Neena or Richa. The kid is good in his role too. The music too is beautiful. It never was boring.

But there isn't anything new in the film that makes it extraordinary. That being said, there's nothing wrong in the film.

'Chak De India' has spoiled every sports film that has come post it. Chak De was such a phenomena that every film related to sports IS and WILL always be compared to it even if the underlying tones are something else like motherhood as in this film's case.

Worth a watch.

Disappointing movie!
sunildaswaney-6364224 January 2020
"Panga" was a very bland and predictable movie in which only 2 performances were praiseworthy viz.Kangana's and Richa Chadda's. Kangana's husband's acting was extremely cheesey, artificial and downright terrible. The rest of the cast were below average at best. Once again unnecessary songs and poor editing caused the film to drag unnecessarily. The movie was 20 minutes too long. Kangana is a brilliant actress but her last 2 movies viz."Judgemental Hai Kya" and this one have been massive disappointments. 5/10

Strongly captures the conflicted dreams of a married woman but goes weak on the energy in the sport!
xpics12 April 2020
Panga is a sports drama film. While it decently captures the drama portion of the film, the sports element lacks energy to an extent. Perhaps your expectations are high since it comes from the Dangal team (co-written by Nikhil Mehrotra, Nitesh Tiwari and directed by Tiwari's wife Ashwani Iyer) but it doesn't match up.

The basic theme of the film of a married woman giving up her dreams post marriage for her family connects pretty well, especially in Indian context. When she chases her dreams thereafter we evidently root for her since each one of us has encountered similar situation in our close proximity. The film very persuasively highlights how the family is as much at fault as much as the guilt in the female species of unable to do her expected homely duties. But after a point, this sole track in the film becomes repetitive and stretched. Also since the film largely tries to maintain a feel-good charm, it often dilutes the scope for good drama by keeping characters of the husband, son, mother and coach pretty tame.

Despite having a predominant backdrop of a less-seen sport like kabaddi, the film doesn't exploit it to its potential. One cannot help but frequently recollect how a less-popular sport like kushti was brilliantly captured in Dangal but Panga leaves a lot to be desired at that level. The energy in the sport sequences is certainly missing. Also with Kangana staying out of action for a major portion of the action in the climax, the audience isn't left with a gratifying experience. The editing seems loose and the pacing of the film also drops tremendously adding as a major deterrent.

Kangana saves the film to a large extent with her natural charm and seamless performance. The ever-smiling Jassie Gill as her husband is decent. One however wishes that several of the secondary characters like Kangana's friend (Richa Chadda with a bad acccent), coach, envious team captain, a friendly teammate and mother (Neena Gupta) were better developed.
