A nonsense film
mcfuwad9 July 2021
There is no good comedy in this film. There is no good story. There is no good plot twist.

Kinda fun

Warning: Spoilers
Three friends - Stephanie (Elizabeth Grullon), Alex (Damian Joseph Quinn) and Bryan(Clayton Farris) - are on a road trip when they run across a cult that likes to take the heads of its victims and always seems to show up when someone is engaging in the vehicular application of phallically obtaining a throat culture.

As Stephanie tries to get over a breakup, she joins Alex and Bryan, who are a couple, on a vacation to Isola Lake, which is now dry. That's just the first bad thing that happens and things get worse when The Executioner shows up looking like he emerged from an Italian sword and sorcery film.

I don't want to give too much away, because there were moments in this movie that genuinely surprised me, including the secret society that The Executioner belongs to. It's not a perfect film - there aren't too many people to root for - but the moments that work, like Stephanie hallucinating her ex. Not all of it comes together, but the parts that do work pretty well.

Director David Del Rio has acted in several movies, but this is the first that I've seen him create. It was written by Justin Xavier, who also wrote another Del Rio-directed movie, Sick for Toys. I'll be keeping my eyes open to see what they do next.

dum dark comedy...
ops-5253528 May 2021
Made on a low 6 digt dollar budget, a very small cast, a story that only a few will find amusing, some chop chop gore here and there, and even a little comedy and hallusinative hemp splicing along the road, well its a film of feature lenght, all the basics are covered, even the strong desert light by an all white dried up salt lake has been tried solved, the acting isnt bad at all, but the idea, plot and story is completely out of originality. Its also a film about genderism, and there are loads of jokes about how to honk the horn, and the story about how dick got his head cut of is one of the highlights in a rather dried out holiday resort, sitting on the dock of the bay looking for water which there aint, so take my grumpy old mannish word for what it is, its dry on content, a bit gory at best, even that cant make me recommend.

What utter trash!

Whoever gave this seriously demented snoozefest more than 1 out of 10 stars is not right in the head.

It's an absolute drag of a movie about decapitation (no non-idiotic reason provided in the movie as to why said decapitations are taking place), smoking weed and biting dicks and a budget cast that are probably the filmmakers' relatives or something.

The ending is nice actually
stavrosalo28 December 2023
Road Head hits the road with good intentions but gets lost in a sea of mediocrity. The film struggles to find its rhythm, delivering a lackluster experience for most of its runtime. Despite this, it's not an entirely disastrous journey. The storyline meanders, leaning heavily on tired tropes and predictable moments that fail to ignite much excitement. The attempts at humor often fall flat, leaving viewers craving more depth and originality.

However, just when all hope seems lost, the film takes an unexpected turn in its final stretch. The ending emerges as a surprising beacon of humor, injecting a much-needed dose of laughs that the rest of the movie sorely lacked. It's a saving grace that rescues the film from being a complete write-off.

While Road Head might struggle to keep viewers engaged throughout, its redeeming quality lies in the humor of its conclusion. For those willing to endure a bumpy ride, the payoff at the end might just be worth the journey.

Fun enough but not much more than that
kannibalcorpsegrinder10 July 2021
Taking a road trip together, a couple and their friend try to forget a bad breakup by going to a scenic lake in the desert, but when the trip goes awry and they realize why as the area is patrolled by a savage cult looking for a new queen to spawn more members they try to figure out how to get away alive.

This wasn't that bad of an effort and had a lot to like about it. One of the strongest elements here is the generally enjoyable mixture of the horror and comedy elements present which are apparent throughout the whole film. The fact that the group banter on the trip up there and up to the initial attack offers a rather enjoyable setup that brings up a fun, lighthearted atmosphere of the friends hanging out and joking while still trying to placate the boundaries of the various relationships in play. Seeing the way they interact on the drive there and trying to put their relationship issues out into the open air regarding the reason for the trip and their personal backstories gives this a rather solid build-up featuring all the comedy and motivations for getting the group into the desert. As well, there's also a nice sense of fun featured in the encounters with the cult. There's quite a lot of fun encounters throughout the film of them chasing the friends throughout the dried-up lake, through the various relics from previous victims left ta the area and finally getting to the cult meetings where they reveal the purpose behind the cult being there. The final scenes of them fighting back against the cult and getting quite fun and messy with how it all plays out, featuring some surprising moments and outcomes for several of the characters here, as the revelations that come about here are quite surprising and unexpected which helps quite a bit to go alongside the fine gory outcomes. These are what manage to hold this one up over its main drawbacks. There are a few minor issues featured within this one. The main problem is that, for every joke that lands with this one there's a couple more that fail to do so and are outright horrible. The line between humorous and childish gets crossed repeatedly here with the monotonous sex references, constant bickering about her boyfriend, and the later inclusion of weed jokes since one of the characters becomes stoned in the film which can take a toll on the viewer at times. Moreover, there's also the factor of how surprisingly simple it is to take out the cult, which is carried out so easily that it does render a lot of the catharsis that emerges from the act itself. These factors do manage to rag the film down enough overall.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language, Graphic Violence, sexual innuendo and scenarios, and drug use.

Comparable to The Godfather, sort of.
htpsfxr30 May 2021
This movie was absolutely brilliant. It's a low budget masterpiece with impeccable acting. The plot takes a few minutes to accept, but I don't think it was designed to be A Beautiful Mind. It was designed to be funny, escapist comical journey, and it hits on all cylinders. Damian Quinn is a clear star in the making. This movie is a sleeper, and will be a cult classic for years to come. Get on the bus early on this one.

Pam Grier Is Reborn!!!!
wandernn1-81-6832743 April 2022
I love the Pam Grier type 'heroine' in this movie! In a time of wokeness and woke horror comedy, i found her performance to be very refreshing! Here we have lots of gay humor and horror!! Sword wielding desert people and murder!!!

The movie was fun. The end was well deserved! 6/10.

Safety and Glory
nogodnomasters9 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Lake Isola has dried up and has disappeared. Three vacationers don't know that. A stranger with a broadsword shows up and lops off the head of one of the individuals hence we get one meaning of the title with the other one being sexual. Stephanie (Elizabeth Grullon ) is captured and is taken back for the proverbial breeding material. The film makes fun of "The Hills have Eyes" type of films. It has many light moments perhaps enough to be a horror-comedy. The desert dialogue between Stephanie and the survivor was absolutely boring. While the film had some good scenes, it also had some that should have been cut.

Guide: F-word. Brief sex. Sex talk. Not nudity unless you count a fake severed organ.
