Implausible and irritating
phd_travel15 January 2019
After her daughter is taken by her ex con ex boyfriend a woman has to follow his instructions to get her back including alienating everyone in her life and getting money to pay him. It isn't believable how he can keep tabs on her every move. And it's annoying how she has to do all these things but you want to see it to the end.

Not a must watch.

Absolute nonsense
mhymanfit16 April 2019
Wow the quality of LMN movies have been gradually declining over the years, but this movie must be the absolute bottom. The plot lacks suspense and comes off more as a comedy that is a result of bad acting and overall horrible writing.

Unbelievable!

This was pretty bad. Acting was good but things that happened were unreal. My favorite part was the "END".

Yell for help!!!

Warning: Spoilers
Seeing your child dumped in a van, unconscious, I would think your very first inclination would be to YELL for help. This movie is SO stupid. And why did no one question why she was wearing a knit hat 24/7 especially in nice weather? I lost brain cells while watching this. Scottie will always be Dr. Benoit from NCIS to me. She's beautiful.

Not as bad as some say

I actually found this movie very entertaining. While her daughter is held hostage by a man, that man makes her do things she'd never do on her own. Even though it doesn't always makes sense I found it pretty hilarious. Even the end I thought was well in line with the story. So if you don't expect a serious thriller..... you'll love it.

SO frustratingly STUPID!
talentest20 April 2024
This lady should've had her spell check turned on for her texting. Or maybe even try texting people earlier at ANY POINT (using that not looking trick her daughter showed her) since the bad guy could only see what she pointed her hat at.

She makes almost zero effort to signal for help at any moment; no hand signs, no mouthing words, no darting her eyes, not even when she draws "H-E-L-P" in the sand does she nudge the guy next to her to look down.

And I don't know if this is a fault of the lead actress or of the direction from the writer/director but why does she not ever display any tears or anguish when being forced to say things she doesn't mean? She was far too compliant with no struggle or resistance to be believable. The director could have at the very least spritzed her face to make it look like she was having trouble with her forced words.

*edit: Having just seen the ending with her "last confession" video it doesn't appear that the actress can actually cry so... I guess that explains that.

Run, Lola, Run!!!
lavatch4 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There was sly approach to the "ransom" theme on the part of the producers of "My Daughter's Ransom" (a.k.a., "Race for My Daughter"). Along with the attempt to develop a gripping drama, the filmmakers added a touch of parody to the kidnapping trope.

Rachel Rogers is desperate to saver her daughter Lindsey, who is kidnapped during a visit to the zoo. Rachel immediately learns that the culprit is her ex-boyfriend Carter. While they were dating, Rachel witnessed Carter commit cold-blooded murder and turned him into the cops instead of providing him with an alibi. Now, twelve years later, Carter has been released from prison and is out for revenge.

The clever Carter has provided a direct line of communication to Rachel with a headphone, and he orders her to perform specific tasks if she wants her daughter returned to her. There is an outrageous scene at the corporate headquarters where Rachel is forced to ask her husband Tony for a divorce. She also must admit that she is having an affair with Tony's colleague Frank. Frank and his wife Gina are awfully confused when they meet with Rachel and Tony for an epic, four-way meltdown.

The film's attempt at parody didn't completely work as it never seemed very credible or even humorous. It was especially troubling that Rachel would leave the scene when her mother-in-law Diane was in the throes of a heart attack Nevertheless, the pace of the film was lively with Rachel constantly in motion in the race to save her daughter.

At least "My Daughter's Ransom" offered a much-needed variation on a predictable kidnapping film. There was great energy and devotion apparent in Rachel's race to the finish line.

Suspense comedy
danotigger18 September 2019
Found so many hilarious moments in this movie. Acting is a bit iffie but the funny surely makes up for it. The mother does do too much running around for me but I'll deal with it for the funny.

So CRINGE! Fails at being both Speed and Trapped
CranberriAppl1 October 2021
So she can write help in sawdust with her foot, but the MULTIPLE times that she's wrecking her life and someone else's, she couldn't grab a pen and paper? He can't see every single move she makes, so why did it take her so long to attempt that?

Everything she's saying sounds like a bad joke, and she sounds increasingly deranged yet no one suspects that more is going on. The husband doesn't even call the cops when she threatens to kill herself. No one is asking where the daughter is while she's doing this.

I caught this movie about halfway through, but the villain Carter kept moaning about his grievances towards her that I don't feel any need to catch what I missed. I just got to the point where I had to see how it ended. This is one of those absurdly silly movies that you can't believe you're watching. The villain even called her a rideshare lol!

Kind of like a dumpster fire
burgerman9312 March 2024
I file this movie under a specific category: it's implausible and dumb, but I had to see how things unfolded. To call this an action thriller would be inaccurate- it's really a comedy drama with a dash of suspense. There were times the actors' facial expressions and decision making were so laughable. And the ending scene with the family hugging a mere feet from the captor's corpse was out of place.

Nit picking a made-for-TV movie is pointless, but in the seconds that the kidnapper turns off his headset, that would have been the perfect time for this mom (played by Olivia Wilde's lookalike Scottie Thompson) to alert authorities that her daughter was taken. And sadly we never figure out how this idiot kidnapper gets sound devices placed in the main couple's house to begin with. For the course of a year no device was ever found and he was able to get in and out of the house unscathed. Talk about luck.

So despite the inconceivable story and lack of twists and turns, it was tempting to watch.

You Can't Be Serious
dougiesantarosa31 March 2019
They tried to create a suspenseful thriller. But they gave us a superb piece of trash chock full of mindless laughingstock garbage. My quota for watching stupidity has been fulfilled for a long, long time. This stupid teleplay that ended up a simple grab for a pile of cash while trashing the object of hatred that pulled the plug years earlier and sent you to prison is truly the ultimate Lifetime movie foolishness. Many times at happy hour parties when conversation focuses on what would you do if your child was abducted (i.e. Madeline McCann) and 99.9% of the time the response is "I'd be devastated totally." But when I suggest injecting a Digital Angel (Verachip microchip) underneath the armpit no bigger than a small grain of rice to GPS track your child's whereabouts, I get ranting, hue and cry "How could I ever justify doing that to my baby." So, those of you who don't really care enough to protect your child should sit down and watch this "My Daughter's Ransom."

Absolutely nonsense

This movie made no sense. I kept watching it hoping that it would finally get to where I can say, "Wow, I underestimated this movie", but, it never did. I wouldn't watch it again as a rerun.

Finally a smart woman!!!
loriannc-3147928 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was pretty good. I enjoyed it and really liked the funny aspects. The whole reason I gave the movie a 10 was the ending. Normally when the fight scene/escape happens the hero or heroine takes down the assailant and then proceeds to turn their back on him or her giving them the opportunity to attack again. This chick stabs him and then follows him to make sure he collapses and dies!!! Finally, a heroine who makes sure the perp is dead before turning their back...

Implausible And Insane
kupcr8 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was filmed totally in video and has its moments of entertainment and suspense and I gave it a high rating because of the ending. This movie is about a mother named Rachel (Scottie Thompson) who's daughter Lindsay (McKinley Blehm) is taken by an ex-boyfriend Carter, an ex-con and Rachel has to follow his instructions to get her back, which includes alienating everyone in her life and getting money to pay him. Some parts are unbelievable, like how Carter is able to keep tabs on her every move. The movie is so annoying sometimes how she has to do all these things but you want to see it to the end.
