Misplaced criticism?
Jarl864 March 2019
The only real issue with other commentors I can agree on is that Supergirl is way less Super than you'd expect from a superhero show.. But I think that's the issue. The problems Supergirl faces are in large part not physical. She can't punch hatespeech and ideals. Sure in most cases there's a physical manifestation in some way (Jensen) that gives the illusion that she solves the problem as you'd expect a Superhero to do. Superman faced anti-alien propaganda as well in Lois&Clark, but the 90s weren't as good at shining a light on the reasoning behind the hate. Just let him punch the problem and flash that jawline at the cameras and it's all good.

I find it interesting that the major complaints towards the show is that it promotes socialism? And focuses on issues based in racism, sexism and various types of phobia? The rhetoric that this is a problem is what I usually see Trump and his extreme conservatives argue against. That change is bad, attack on American values etc.

Speaking as a person from a democratic country that governs by socialist values, us and our neighbors are literally ranked the happiest and most thriving countries in the world. If the comments on Supergirl have taught me anything, it's that Superman appealed to the pure-blooded beat-your-chest American man, and adapting a Super to modernday issues is somehow a threat to that..? Don't fight change, embrace it. Or you'll be left behind.

Decent season!!!

Supergirl Episode 4.07 (3 out of 5 stars).

The episode still continues with a forgettable story that tries to get more political with how the world is now. Agent Liberty does play a good villain played by Sam Witwer. The episode is forgettable. The action is dull. The characters are underwritten.

Did you hear the music at the end?!
hockent22 December 2018
I am still surprised at how much I like this show. It has its ups and downs but casting is Sam Witwer as the main bad has been great and so many twists! Bonus points for the remix of Corey Hart's "never surrender" at the end. I feel like it's a nod to the country they film in.

Socialist garbage
confidential-6789726 November 2018
With supergirl now just a party political broadcast by the socialist party and legends of tomorrow essentially now just a bad comedy about time travel, it looks like it's just the arrow and flash worth watching.

Pretty good for Fascist Propaganda
Tedebear202026 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Supergirl, despite touting itself as "progressive" has seemingly lost it's mind. James siding himself openly with the Children of liberty, a xenophobic fascist group that want's to round up and commit genocide of innocent aliens, has not faced any consequences for his actions. Sure, he feels bad about it. However, His reputation, his friendship with Kara Dancers an alien? All fine. The show seems to state that James is a hero for trying to save a neo nazi, that involving blowing up a giant monmument that could potentially hurt more people. Bad trade off. Manchester Black, the only character seemingly on the right side, that being you don't try to legitimize xenophobes, you just bring your foot down. Violent yes, but a better method of dealing with domesric terrorists than joining them. However the show seems to argue that Manchester Black is a villian, james is a struggling hero. Bull. I'm not that good of a writer, but there's many, many, many, many, and many different ways to handle this sort of storyline, but the writers of the show seem dead set in flooring to an even lower rock bottom. Something that I can give credit supergirl for, somehow being worse than I could imagine

not exactly a damsel in distress, but...
RavenGlamDVDCollector26 June 2020
At the beginning of this season we saw Supergirl support the weight of a train when the bridge collapsed. At the beginning of the series we saw Supergirl supporting a crashing jumbo jet. All through the series we have seen incredible feats. Doubtlessly these scriptwriters would have it she could piggy-back the moon in a bind... if that week's flight of fancy demanded such. But in this episode, all it takes to bring down a somewhat weakened Supergirl is two lengths of chain to hold her by the arms and then a third for her feet? By all means, some jeopardy for this invincible girl... but do come up with a more convincing scenario, she's supposed to just snicker at this weak attempt...

The show is basically an embarrassment to watch and should just have had a dynamite First Season.
