Great concept, cool drivers, good final cut but not flawless

As others have pointed out this show has a lot going for it - lighting, original obstacle courses, great cars and genuine semi-professional drivers who give their best and push their cars to the limit.

There are also unexpected twists and mishaps that keep the show interesting to the very end. It didn't feel biased to me - simply the mix of drivers was all over the place with some bordering Ken Block-ish levels of control while others driving like my uncle after 5 rakias (or whiskies).

However - the commentary and dramatization a-la "Deadliest catch" or "Orange county customs" detract a lot of value from this show. This typical American dumbing-down of the content is not really doing them any service.

They could have excelled by showing us more of the technical stuff about the cars, how they were built or some performance analysis instead. And yes they could have definitely chosen their slow-mo shots better as someone else commented before me.

Well worth the watch though and I do hope they read the comments here for Season 2 :)

It's nothing if not enjoyable

Admittedly I enjoy most car shows, but this was something different. Part obstacle course, part drift track, part ridiculous, all fun. The negative reviews clearly didn't get very far into it, or missed the point. Don't let them stop you from giving the show a go, but make sure you have a good block of time clear to watch because it's absolutely binge-worthy.

Great, but make it a sport, not a circus

Loved the concept, but the packaging could use work. It definitely takes drifting to a place where it is a sport in that it is a pointed system of challenges that make for a somewhat uniform playing field while also removing the "style points" that drift events are often centered around. However, it'd be better if it was more like watching the x-games. I even get the lighting on the cars as it is filmed at night. However, the commentary from the hosts was awful and made it difficult to watch. Fire them all and hire some of the drivers to replace them. Hearing a former UFC champion say over and over "I've never scene this before" just makes the whole thing kind of a joke. Yeah, I get it, you've never scene this before. That is literally every minute of existence. Hire the drivers from the season to announce. They have done it and I'd rather hear their input.

Binged this show! Love it, need more, Netflix needs to stop spending budget on Adam Sandler movies and make more like this!

What a great concept!

It's like a car version of Ninja Warrior mixed with some of the dynamics seen in professional motorsport like F1, Nascar and Super Cars.

Being the first season, it's impressive to see that they've almost nailed the concept. I would lose the water sections though, as it's not a 4X4/4WD show... Still makes for a little more entertainment I guess. In my opinion this doesn't suit the format.

The contestants are real and not fake. They risk their own cars to compete in such a challenging environment where so much can easily go wrong.

The talent to do what they accomplish demands respect and thus they have some of the best amateur drivers in the world competing in a variety of vehicles.

I would love to see a special episode with professional drivers like Ken Block and Travis Pastrana or for a laugh Jeremy, Richard and James from The Grand Tour.

This show will hopefully get better and better and even if you're not into cars the real stories behind the contestants should captivate you more than the other trash on TV right now.

Gran Turismo meets Fast and the Furious

This is brain rottingly good nonsense. Kudos for whoever thought this up. Admittedly the commentators are a little on the agitating side, but a small price to pay for watching some insane cars flying round a crazy course a breakneck speed. Beats watching Formula 1 on a Sunday afternoon for sure, and a hell of a lot more competitive!

Extra points for effort!

From a game show perspective, this show gets about a 6 or 7 out of 10. It's got that got talent cheese and guilt ridden build ups. But I must admit, it makes up for it in raw filmography and intense "in the lap" perspective. The future is here and it's in the form of compact 4k cameras, super smooth drones and high powered LEDs on a dmx system from hell! This WILL be a spectators sport. It will gather more experienced and higher skilled drivers. And I can definitely see the show taking the challenges to all sorts of heights. Especially if it gathers popularity and cash! The extra points are for the geeks. The techy dudes who know all the latest kit the get their productions looking sweet and the perspective first class. The best thing is, it's all affordable making production value even greater! Great job.

Nice drivers, cars and track. The 'super American' commentary kind of ruins it for me. I'd rather watch this with the sound of but than ill miss the cool car sounds. I feel like the camera shots and scenes aren't well picked and could make this show allot better.

The show itself is entertaining. Real drivers, real cars built by the drivers, and the courses are creative. This is like the American Ninja, but with cars!

Only thing that seriously bothers me is the editing. There is no actual racing. You just see bad editing when the racer makes a move (good editing when something "cool" happens).

My point is, that most of us would propably like to see the whole run, or at least the best parts without the crazy frame to frame (corner to corner) editing. Let's face it: people who are interested in this, are propably out of the target group originally intented.

I've always loved muscle cars & driving fast. This shows has both plus more!! There are drivers that are financially secure and do this as a hobby and there are drivers that have sold everything and work four jobs just to be there. There are young and old, guys & gals - competing to show their talent.

I would just like to point out that I've been really frustrated to see all the "hype" drivers going for a second try to take down missed targets, while other drivers were given a penalty the MOMENT they missed it. Either those drivers were unaware that they had multiple chances, or editors were like "nah we're not gonna show you their second try on that target". Others said that the show felt a bit scripted, and well... not being shown THAT footage DOES make it feel scripted or unfair to me. I really love the concept (as all racing lovers do, because most of the show is awesome), but be more upfront about what is happening. 6/10

He is not allowed to rent a car. Despite all BS still watchable diverse crowd but beware, things below will make you hit your head to walls. You might quit before you make it to the end.

Terrible commentary did you listen these what these guys saying before releasing? Unqualified drivers and unrelated cars for the show, stupid talent killer leveler that doesn't level at all give an advantage to those unqualified drivers, non matching senseless unexplained surprising BS penalties and credits(???) that will make you go nuts each time, big safety concerning and car killer courses.

No prize money for winner, no damage cover for drivers. They did not airship the cars? Drivers lost months for this show. My rating dropped 5 to 2. I am glad it is not getting another season from Netflix.

Possibly the coolest car show ever! Watch it now!

This show has it all precision, speed and insane obstacles. You literally feel for some of the racers as they make their runs on he courses. I don't know what show the people that gave the show bad ratings were watching, you have a guy from Donut media a racing media group, and three other unknowns hosting but the give good "color" commentary. I binge watched all ten episodes in one night, plus the fact that Charlize Theron is an executive producer was a cool surprise.

Everything's great but the commentators

So here we have an amazing and great show idea that was almost executed perfectly there's only two problems (possibly 3) the first problem is the atrocious commentating I mean wtf is Micheal bisping doing there he knows nothing and it shows same with the other two clowns. Easily could have professional racers doing the commentary and explaining how hard it is. The second issue is that some of the "stunts" where surely too unsafe yet producers still let it happen (eg the accident that occurred). The final issue is that the ending almost felt scripted for a certain individual to win and left it a little boring.

Good idea, poor packaging

Some superb drivers mixed with some useless drivers and pay2win cheaters, so I stayed for th quality driving and wasn't disappointed.

What I was disappointed with was the horrible packaging of the show - it's a car show and they use wrong camera angles all the time, slowmo the wrong things, don't show enough driving and have awful commentating. Don't get me wrong I like Bisping buuuut who are the others? Why does it need 3 people to drag out this repetitive competition? Where are the experts/pros?

The new layouts were too alike to begin with that the first 4-5 episodes you question what the point is but do end up pretty decent by the end.

As some other reviews have stated, it did feel a bit biased and scripted but overall I enjoyed and stayed the course for the show for the cars and drivers that put their all in, but it could have been presented and produced SO much better.

The best show nobody needs

I own a VW Polo and don't really like driving and cars and everything connected to that but this show is actually the first show that I excitedly finished in one go. Why? It's pretty much ridiculous, over the top and draws you into scripted superficial drama but it's so well made and I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by everything that happened there. Maybe it helped that I actually had to get work done today and this was my escape from reality but hell: That worked well. Fun show. Ten stars.

Leveler

In the knockout 1 the leveler doesn't need driving skills needs logic maybe that wasn't a good obstacle to put on the show

Get rid of the Announcers

The whole concept of the show is great. Loved the obstacle courses, loved seeing all the drivers, young & old, great to see the cars. I thought it was a great series. I even liked Lindsey Z. But the other 3 announcers? Lose them. They had no intelligent comments to add. They need to go. But please keep the series!

Things that could be improved on

1: The commentary, I won't say too much about this but two things, fake reactions and Bisping 2: Safety, did the producers not think about what would happen if a ton of water landed on someone's windscreen 3: Obstacles, in my opinion needs a bigger focus on drifting and the driver skill, because some competitors who really couldn't drift made it quite far because of the leveller and also the water obstacle which some of the proper drift cars were heavily affected by 4: should have a proper live audience to better the atmosphere and hopefully give the drivers some extra prize money ( if there even was any) 5: all drivers should be good enough to enter the competition, like wtf was that guy who just opened his door to hit the targets because he couldn't drift 6: please no more post commentary and quick replays I want to see all the runs in full or at least all the obstacles from all the drivers because a lot were skipped Overall very entertaining but some things that ruined it slightly

Positive Hype-rdrive!

Just finished watching all of the first season of #hyperdrivenetflix It's an amazing drift/racing tournament that puts drivers from all over the world with: different skill sets, backgrounds, ages, and experiences to the test on a unique and ever changing race track with unique elimination criteria. It's also a breath of fresh air as there are no drama queens or big shot bully competitors. All the contestants are constantly supporting and cheering each other on. Already ready for the next season!

Exciting show but some things can be done better

The show features some really good drivers and delivers a lot of excitement!

However, with such a huge budget and so many cameras, the camera work could have been much better. Too much switching around between cameras and the choice to slow-mo some things rather than others is weird.

The choice of drivers is very random but I think it was intended to show that sometimes underdogs can make it given the chance.

I don't like that they say WoW every time someone starts their run, i mean you have seen it multiple times before so why the surprise?

I would have loved if the show was more about drifting and not about water challenges and leveler challenges, since that way picking a winner would be more based on skill than anything else.

Would have loved to know more about the drivers' cars as well.

I still think the show is great and hope there will be a season 2!

Could be good, But

They try to sell it too hard, its too much "wow, yeah, this is the biggest square ever built" and "the biggest competition in the universe maaaan" and everything is the biggest, scariest, toughest most challenging ever made on earth. But its not, so it falls flat.

Nail Biting till the end!

This show is beyond crazy to say the least. Imagine Takeshi's Castle / Wipeout but for cars! This show gives a fair chance to each and every participating member and makes it worthwhile with all the courses.

The only negative is the repetition of the various courses over several episodes albeit credit has to be given to the ingenious thinking behind the course designers. All in all a superb watch!

Real fast and furious

For a car racing game show it shouldn't be this deep. Nearly cried the second episode..... This show is awesome and you genuinely feel for the drivers. Presenters were good too especially Michael Bisping.
