I enjoyed the first season, it was far more entertaining than I anticipated (as I'm not into fishing). The camera work is great, the fishermen are all varied characters and from time to time it's really funny. But to me the whole "replacement captain" arc felt really weird, so I looked up that "captain" Joshua Barton and he's an actor, which on one hand was a relief, because his scenes feel like there's a guy acting, but on the other hand it threw me a bit off. So 7/10 it is.

Decent show, has potential, worth a look

The first thing that I thought when I saw this show was "NetFlix is trying to compete with Wicked Tuna on the Discovery Channel" and that they're trying to break into the reality show market a la Wicked Tuna and Deadliest Catch. This show doesn't nearly come up to those shows as far as quality. There needs to be more narration explaining as the show goes along and a better narrator at the same time. All in all, it's worth watching if you like those Discovery Channel shows, but don't expect as much out of an episode of Battlefish as Wicked Tuna.

Great show

This is great show and it also proves that experience, great leadership and treating your crew right pays off. All of the crew had slight issues but were able to overcome them. The Ashley Nichole captain.....major loser. The Oppor-tuna-ty crew came by him and he instantly went to talking crap about them, calling them rich assholes and party boys. Go seek counseling captain. Also don't make yourself to be a badass only to get punked by a crew member who called you out. They seem to have their business wired tight and it showed as they progressed throughout the season. Judy's crew was good and I enjoyed watching them work together especially when the new member came on. She is extremely tough and really snapped in quick when she got on board. The three friends were an awesome crew to watch also. It reminds me of being a Marine on ship. The camaraderie and sleeping conditions sold it lol. Good luck to all of you next season. I hope to see you on Netflix.
If you're trawling for a good reality show, trawl no further

This is my first review on here and i don't particularly know why i've chosen Battlefish as my first but i felt obligated after watching this fantastic show.
Great characters, Great camera work and the story progression is fantastic. I never knew tuna fishing could be this damn interesting, just give it a go and you wont be disappointed.
PS. lots and lots of blood so the squeamish may want to look away.

Yeah Baby!

Of all the fishing shows out there, this is up there with the dullest. Very bland, uninterested men on these boats serving up cliche after cliche. The crew of one boat is extremely annoying, with an endless torrent of "Yeah Baby" and " That's what I'm talking about baby" Baby this and baby that. There's a few nice vessels and pretty scenic backgrounds. Otherwise dry as dust.
Fun show to watch!

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this all the way through. Some of the crews are more likable than others, but I give them all kudos for perserverance and toughness. Keep in mind there's lot's of very raw language and fish.
I hope they bring it back for another season.
Good show

The first ever uncensored fishing show!
tailwalker-7209427 September 2018
Hold on to everything this show delivered a savage real look at albacore fishing on the west coast! Uncensored and raw, I felt like I was on the decks of the tuna boats.... Some really great crews like the OpporTunaty gave us a real view of what it takes to provide the world's freshest albacore to its customers... Funny crew on the TNT has me laughing out loud! Watch it... And hope for a 2nd season of the best fishing show ever produced!
Seems like over fishing at its finest

This show pisses me off. They seem so desperate. They have to meet a quota regardless the fact they could possibly be taking too much fish. They could be in their right as far as how many tuna they pull up, but to me it doesn't look right.
Faster pace than the average "fishing" show

Old school commercial albacore Fisher person here.
photosbyelizabethdobbs30 September 2018
I fished Albacore out of San Diego in the glory days, 1971-72. Fish were running 50 lbs. Not a lot of women fishing. I was young and I was strong. This program had me on the edge of my seat yelling in excitement. Captures how important the crew and the boat is. Great filming. Hard work. Big risk. Best reality show ever!
Top Notch

Honestly-I love all the fishing reality shows and this one comes out a strong #1. Netflix blew it out of the water, no pun intended. I love the lack of censorship so you can hear how these salts actually talk and it adds to the whole theme of the show-it's very real. Not once did I feel that the show was trying to add drama for ratings, a rare trait in these types of shows. 10/10.
cynical killer
tibor-106-3825727 July 2022
We know that fish are intelligent individuals that often live in complex social relationships, use tools, and can feel fear and pain - and we know that the tuna industry is causing them and other animals unnecessary suffering.
Filming this massacre of living creatures is already cynical, and the fishermen are far from respectful. It's all about money - $100 per fish. Netflix, tuning cars - ok, killing animals is not cool!

Great tv show.

This show is about fishing. I like how Netflix includes this hobby on their channel. I would love Netflix to make more fishing TV shows. This show is well produced and they go to beautiful areas. I want to fish for tuna, I'm going to get a set up for fishing in the ocean. I want to catch a tuna some day. Netflix needs to have river monsters and other fishing. Id like more fishing battles on Netflix. Bass are good, tuna are good. I like Netflix. Netflix needs to keep adding things that involve wildlife. This is a good show. I highly recommend you watch this. That is why this is a great tv show for anyone to watch.
fantastic viewing

Shows what humans are doing wrong
ceojonathanmontgomery12 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This show simply shows how we are jacking up the ocean. So if we truly cared to have a relationship with the planet and ocean and be sustainable then we truly need to rethink how we do things. So in fact Tuna can get hundreds of pounds. Yet they are hooking up as they say little 50lb to 100lb tunas. Tiny compared to what they should be. What humans need to do is three things.
First humans need to clean up the trash we toss into the ocean and fishing tackle and lines are some of the most destructive trash because fishermen aren't incentives to clean up. I say countries pay fishermen to haul trash that makes them a guaranteed amount of money. They bring in fish but if for some reason they catch nothing then they can at least bring in trash and make money.
Second we need a weight minimum and sperm egg system. You should not be able to bring in under 200 lb tuna or maybe larger. When you catch these animals you have a bucket with oxygen and ocean water in it and when you get the fish you squeeze the eggs and sperm out. Then you bring them to hatcheries that grow the fish then release the fish to help grow the population. Instead of just taking, we repopulate as well.
Third, we need open water fisheries. These would be massive 300 ft deep pens that are like a mile around. Feed the fish and grow them in the open and then release a certain amount of them and farm the rest. Or even better the government pays for this to repopulate the fish we kill.
The ocean will stop someday. The ocean isn't infinite. Tunas are super small on this show and not more than 100 years ago they were millions more and they were massive. We may need to do fish years and off years. Where no one can fish around the world for like 5 years. Let the ocean heal from our constant destruction. Or allow fishing in certain areas and no more trolling. I get money and whatnot is important but so is our planet for our grandkids and 100 generations after us still deserve a planet that has animals and isn't dead. We need to clean out, act up and be better humans. Stop being idiots and trash people. This isn't just Americans I am talking about all around the world.
Don't get me wrong, sushi grade tuna is so amazing. It is fresh and tastes amazing. I love fish, crabs and lobsters. But things like shark fin soup where they cut shark fins off then toss the animal back into the ocean is just a huge example of humans being wasteful and shows how disgusting we are. First off shark fin is cartilage the same crap in your nose or ears. No nutritional value whatsoever. Shark fins will not help your sexual limbedo either. It's just disgusting what humans do to animals that they deem useless or competition. We need to treat the one planet we all have to share with respect.
The world needs a world wide fishing organization that regulates the entire ocean. This also means rich countries help smaller countries like Pacific Asian countries that need trash and recycling services need to be created. Otherwise they just dumb their trash in the rivers and oceans. This has to stop. Yes paper straws may help but it does nothing if other countries are tossing all their trash into the ocean. This is just the stupidity of humans. Fisherman need to exist we just need to be better Stewart's of our planet.

Finally, the real deal!

Finally, the real deal! Finally a show that's not afraid of offending anyone. Just a bunch of scruffy dirty fisherman doing what fisherman do, catch fish... Swear... And smoke.
It's refreshing to actually see something that's not censored into oblivion in the hyper-super-sensitive society of the U. S.
