When Bullwinkle takes out his hum-a-comb in front of the Indians, he says, "C'mon, chillun! Everybody dance!" This is a variation on a catchphrase used by Kay Kyser, a popular bandleader in the 1930s and '40s, known as "The Ol' Perfessor". Kyser would often kick off performances by saying, "C'mon, chillun! Le's dance!"
The Bumbling Brothers Circus, "The Smallest... Biggest Show on Earth", is a spoof of the long-running Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, known as "The Greatest Show on Earth". P.T. Barnum's Greatest Show on Earth merged with the Cooper and Bailey Circus in 1881, traveling around America and Europe. The Ringling brothers operated a circus out of the American Midwest starting in 1884, and bought out the rival Barnum and Bailey show in 1907. Initially run separately, the two shows were combined in 1919, and continued operation until 2017.
In the "Dudley Do-Right of the Mounties" segment, "Masked Ginny Lynn", Snidely Whiplash hosts a variety talent competition called "Major Snidel's [sic] Amateur Hour". This is a spoof of the "Major Bowes Amateur Hour", a radio talent show broadcast in the 1930s and 1940s, created and hosted by Edward Bowes.
