The House of Gaunt is a short film expanding on the lives of the Gaunt family who were created as part of the Harry Potter Universe. The Gaunt's were once a powerful magical family who practiced relative marriages to maintain their pureblood status. They were proud descendants of Salazar Slytherin which also made them wealthy. Over the centuries of incest and greed, Elvis Marvolo Gaunt and his children were victims of disorders and poverty. He was a staunch believer in purity and was angered when his daughter Merope had fallen in love with a local weathy muggle named Tom Riddle. Merope was subject to abuse from both her father and brother Morfin. After an altercation between Tom and Morfin, the Gaunt's came to the attention of the Ministry. Elvis was unhappy with the Ministry's attempt to intervene in what he believed to have been good act on Morfin's part. Both Morfin and Elvis would end up in Azkaban leaving Merope to fend for herself. Merope managed on her own by concocting a love potion for Tom Riddle. They were married and eventually became pregnant. Merope stopped feeding Tom the potion in hopes he'd return genuine feelings of affection. Alas, this was not to be and he would abandon his wife and unborn child. Merope would later give birth at an orphanage. Her handsome son which was named Tom Marvolo Riddle would later become known as Voldemort.—ennyann

When one of the laws of the Wizarding World is broken, the Ministry of Magic tracks the source of the crime to the home of Marvolo Gaunt and his children, Merope and Morfin. The Ministry sends the Aurors to visit the House of Gaunt in an attempt to arrest the Gaunts under the suspicion of their involvement. Gaunt and his family are known to be the last living descendants of Hogwarts founder Salazar Slytherin and consider themselves superior to other wizards, including the Ministry of Magic, for being "pure-blood", the term for wizards whose bloodline consists of solely wizards and no connections to Muggles (non-magical beings).

Merope Gaunt, Marvolo's daughter, has also been sneaking away on occasion from the House of Gaunt after starting to fall in love with a Muggle named Tom Riddle (Sr.), much to the disappointment of her brother and father.

After Merope comes across a potion that she believes will make Tom fall in love with her, she finds a way to slip it to him and he becomes infatuated with her. They run away together as Marvolo is sentenced to Azkaban after being found guilty of breaking wizarding law.

Merope soon becomes pregnant and, believing that after the time they spent together, Tom must love her without the use of the potion, she stops giving it to him. He falls out of the spell, becoming aware of what had happened and abandons Merope and their unborn child. Merope gives birth to their child, but dies in the process, leaving the child to be taken to an orphanage.

In the present day, Tom Marvolo Riddle, Merope and Tom's child, becomes aware of his family's heritage and begins to despise not only his father but Muggles themselves, for Tom's abandonment of his mother. His hatred is stemmed from his belief that his father had left her for being a wizard rather than her usage of a potion to make him fall in love with her. Nonetheless, Tom starts to align his beliefs with that of his grandfather: that pure-bloods are superior to wizards that have Muggle blood and that Muggle-born and half-blood wizards have tainted the Wizarding World.

While attending Hogwarts School of Wizardry, Tom learns of one of the most powerful sources of Dark Magic in the Wizarding World: the creation of Horcruxes. These Horcruxes allow a wizard to split a piece of their soul from their bodies and place it inside of an object as a way to preserve their soul with the intention of living forever.

Throughout Tom's pursuit of power, he recruits many wizards to become a part of his army and begins the process of splitting his soul into Horcruxes to live out eternity as the most powerful wizard of all time and cleanse the Wizarding World of any wizards with Muggle blood.

The House of Gaunt (2021) follows Tom Riddle as he goes down the path of Dark Magic and becomes the Dark Lord that is infamously known in the world of Harry Potter as Lord Voldemort.
