Fails but not through lack of trying
thekarmicnomad23 June 2022
Some people wake up in a bunker with their memories in tatters - I love this kind of thing.

It is obvious by the lighting and sets that this is on a bit of a tight budget - but also that the budget has been spent well and their are some talented people involved in this.

The same goes with the acting -everyone is doing a pretty good job.

A totally watchable film.

Unfortunately it is much, much, much too long.

Every time a clue is found, shining some light on the mystery, a piece of salient information is always missing rendering the clue useless.

A viewer can only go through this so many times before they lose interest.

The story plays out like a social deduction board game: a lot of the scenes are people in a room screaming "No you're the traitor!" at each other.

Add the mental instability of the characters and it soon becomes apparent that any dialogue is just a waste of time.

There was an ending, which was ok, but by then I was just glad this was finally over and I really couldn't care less what happened to the characters.

I think a sleeker, cut down edit of this film could really work.

Cool premise, terrible execution
FeastMode25 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I went into this movie blind. I had never even heard of it until yesterday but I'm a sci-fi junkie so I had immediate interest. This made for a really enjoyable experience to start the movie. I like the premise and the setup is highly intriguing.

Unfortunately this movie is held back by a bad script that doesn't know what to do or how to execute it. It slows down drastically to the point of me struggling to stay awake, even with a Red Bull. On top of that, the acting and dialogue are extremely low quality for a theatrically released movie.

The director and musical composer do their best to try to elevate this movie as much as possible, but it's not enough to offset the bad script. (1 viewing, opening Friday 6/24/2022)

SPOILERS

I figured out who the bad guy was so early and never once doubted it, which is a failure for a mystery. And the explanation in the end is so convoluted that it completely strains any believability.

The amount of things that need to happen for this loop to continue is ridiculous. I can buy the doctor going back into cryo sleep because she gets sick. But the others are trying to kill each other. And they all coincidentally do this by forcing each other into the cryo tubes.

And don't even get me started on the soldier needing to go outside so he could come back at the exact perfect time to make her plan work. I groaned when she said that.

Cryo
BandSAboutMovies25 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Five scientists -- 001 the enginner (Curt Doussett), 002 the psychologist (Jyllian Petrie), 003 the biochemist (Morgan Gunter), 004 the soldier (Mason D. David) and 005 the doctor (Emily Marie Palmer) -- wake from cryosleep with no memories of who they are, how they got where they are and even how long they've been asleep. They soon learn that 000 the inventor (Michael Flynn) is gone, they're sealed on the other side of an airlock and a killer -- who may be one of them -- is hunting everyone.

A student film by director Barrett Burgin and co-writer Mason D. Davis, this looks better than 90% of the movies that come my way for review. It also has a stronger plot, better tension and moments where I genuinely was surprised by the turns that the film makes.

After exporing the area they are trapped in, objects that change reality show up, such as a bloody machete and a copy of The Divine Comedy. Some of the crew starts to hear sermons in their head. It seems as if the inventor is nearly a god to them as they debate how they can find his presence. And as they have no idea what has happened outside, they fear leaving the security of these four walls, even if they contain a killer.

That said -- the movie could lose thirty minutes and not suffer for it. But for a first effort, it looks beyond polished and I'd have no idea that it was a freshman effort were I not informerd. Can't wait to see what's next!

Too many Fake Reviews
cdnkelly19 July 2022
The Fake reviews are getting out of hand. Student film, slow, acting was ok. Set design was lacking. They did try hard. Good idea but director didn't capitalize on the story or pacing.

Good movie huh guys?
awells-7639029 June 2022
I got trolled into watching this by the glowing reviews on here. I have never seen acting quite so bad before. Well, unless you count Absentia which was atrocious. The dialogue is used to hand feed the audience every little detail. I can usually look past things and suspend my belief but geez this was soul sucking. A total waste of $6.99.

Cryogenic sleep...more like these guys woke up in a low budget escape room and tried to make it a sci-fi set. I don't know that anyone could act their way outta this set...

And the BOTs are at it again, skewing the rating
kirachloe25 May 2023
As a directorial debut for a full length film (at least according to IMDB) not too bad. Yeah, but not really good either. It goes back to my biggest pet peeve ... it starts with the script. Some of the 'short' cuts you can take in shorts (the directors' prior efforts) do NOT translate. Or to say it another way, part of the movie experience is about the suspension of disbelief. If the viewer is constantly distracted by words, actions, and situations that do not make sense, they are going to leave. This script is full of problems, which is sad. The script is the single cheapest way to make a bad movie good ... or if unwilling to put in the time and effort, to make a potential good movie a dud.

Yeah, there appears to be some thespiatic talent, and the cinematography has potential. But its not there yet, and its not good enough to fix a flawed script.

And for those of you wondering how this movie received so many good reviews, do some quick research. MANY of the 7/8/9/10 stars are from accounts that have only provided a single ranking, just for this movie. So one or more of the crews' friends thought botting this movie would be a cool idea. And as such, my rating will be dropped a point to help make the overall rating more realistic.

It was not good, it was not bad, it was the ugly
stack-1128 July 2022
The pace of this movie is slow, very slow.

Some decisions in this movie were complete insane, and would have never be done when they were a real survivor group.

Sometimes they are really stupid.

For instance, you have a door with a digital lock, where you can enter 3 digits, so ranging from 000 to 999, and one of the guys say, oh no, there are 1000's of combinations.

So several thousand... Really?

The film is not good obviously, but certainly not bad either, I have seen worse, much worse.

It is just too slow, like the brain of the producer was in cryo state as well...

Give it a chance.
jamosmonk17 June 2022
It's low budget...and could be a few minutes shorter... however, in the end, it's a good movie, in the vein of "oxygen" where memory loss is key, or "happy death day" where events repeat themselves. It's just low budget...but everyone from cast to crew really gave it their all. Keep on keeping on and things will get better as their craft improves.

Glorified student film.
Dodge-Zombie16 June 2022
Everyone has to start somewhere and a quick look at the crew list shows that the majority of people are starting here. Now that being said it's pretty plain to see that this is the blind leading the blind. They needed at least one person with a decent CV to stop this being a disaster. A 2 hour disaster that could of been a 20 minute short.

Dismissed.

An Indie Memory Maze
mervederyayazicioglu16 June 2022
Expected to see a physical action-packed sci-fi film but was in for an experiment gone wrong many times. I'm surprised to find out this was an indie film with a small budget because it definitely surpasses the other films within the same genre.

The plot was slow-paced at times and could have been definitely shorter but I still enjoyed figuring out what was really going on. It wasn't done in a disorienting way but instead they went with a whodunnit experience.

Above Average
schubimz20 June 2022
This was a nice surprise, didn't expect much, but it is very watchable for a low budget indie film and the acting is not as bad as in many other low budget movies.

If you need expensive cgi and explosions this is definitely not for you, but if you like a slower paced sci-fi wodunnit you should give it a try.

Too long too few Ideas
einsamer_boy16 June 2022
This is the director's first feature film and you can see it in every corner.

He still has to gain experience because this is too long a film that only entertains for a short time with the few ideas.

Unbelievably BAD
bencrea16 June 2022
If you can sit thru this steaming pile of crud you deserve the Oscar.

Acting and dialogue is complete crap and it's plot line is trying to recycle Cube and a slasher film.

You'll probably notice here in the reviews that anyone giving this a ten just joined IMDB because only the film maker and cast can give themselves a pat on the back for this.

No spoilers here, save yourself the cringe and boredom and watch something else.

Pretty nothing
mihaigreeny18 January 2023
Nothing interesting. Boring movie. PG13 one. Not was i expected. I miss some good S. F. movies. Okay, it's a low budget, i understand this aspect, but i have seen enough low budget movies very good, entertaining and interesting.

It's not about the budget being low, it's about the acting who is bellow decent, the story, the pace etc.

It's not working. Not worth your time. They have tried.

Well... Well.. well ...this 600 minimum characters is annoying and must be removed immediately. It's like you are forced to keep writing something that it is not needed. Okay, there you go! The movie is zero.

It was alright
travispetrillo16 June 2022
The film begins with a team of 5 people just awoken from cryostasis, dazed and confused, with difficulty remembering who and where they are. This is probably where the movie is at its worst, as the actors are extremely wooden in the opening scenes, going beyond the awkwardness their situation should call for, though that does improve as the film goes on and they somewhat settle into actual personalities.

The idea itself was nice, not particularly original, we've all seen it played out in plenty of other movies, this one just included the actual product. It's a game of Clue. Kinda. Stories like this can be very entertaining for those that like to guess at the ending, and I feel like they did a fair job of it here, with plenty of hints and distractions for the audience. The final twist though was a stretch, and just made the story seem arbitrarily cruel and nonsensical, with the reasoning as to why remaining a vague and disappointing mystery.

Otherwise, setting and camera work are both passable, with all shooting done seemingly in the one location. Not a film I'd watch again, but not terrible for a low budget production. Some heavy editing to bring down the length with a bit more clarity at the end, and it might actually be enjoyable.

Low budget but good ideas. The executive producer did a really good job with this. I can't wait to see what this team produces in the future ... they are only going to get better.

What was the plot?
AgustGudbjornsson16 June 2022
I had to stop watching after the first 10 minutes... I dont know where to start, but on the first minutes you dont get any connection to the actors, they talk about "lets rest" where they have no clue what is going on... seriously?! :) ... Sorry, but this is horrible start of a movie.

It was good!
sethrichards17 June 2022
The movie was good! It was a bit confusing at times, but once things started to come together I was ALL IN. The 3rd act really stuck the landing for me, despite some unsteadiness earlier in the movie. I recommend it to anyone who likes these types of independent films. I wonder if someone like Arrow Video could pick this up for physical Blu-ray release, because I'd buy it!

Frustratingly bad.
fluffchop24 October 2022
What even happened in this film? It goes along without explanation despite the characters describing everything as it happens. There was something to do with something at the end but I don't know what. Did they even have an ending in sight to begin with. It's very long for not much happening and by the time you get to the end you just want it to be over. It was under explained at the end which made it ultimately very unsatisfying and it's not the sort of thing you would ever want to watch again. Maybe one day I will watch it again and pay more attention. It just didn't capture my attention from the very beginning and I didn't care about any of the characters. I found myself doing other things while it was on because nothing happens the whole time. I didn't find it a very good movie and I wouldn't recommend this to anybody I liked. It's just a waste of nearly 2 hours with no payoff. Frustrating is the word for this film.

Big Brain Time
jh-5313116 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Make no mistake, this is definitely a movie that requires you to think. If you're looking for a movie you can turn your brain off for and understand, this is not it. That being said, it's an extremely cool concept, and was extremely well done for the budget.

Unexpected religious thriller
spencerwalton-5014717 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS: I went into this movie thinking it would just be a pretty basic low-budget sci-fi film about cryosleep, but I came out of the movie utterly surprised by its potent, soul-wrenching religious themes. It's about a dying, senile Babylonian who believes his worldly technological accomplishments can help him achieve the divine and earn him eternal life - but he and his followers are woefully mistaken, and their actions instead lead them to an eternal hell. The truth embedded into this twisty story gets me in the feels! I loved it.

Now, about my gripes with the movie. It's not perfect. Clearly it was made by film students or recent film graduates. But that makes it all the more impressive that such young talent could construct something like this for pennies! It's also a bit overly-convoluted at times, but I really enjoyed it nonetheless.

Ninth Hell
nogodnomasters8 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Five people wake up from a cryo sleep. They have no memories of their names. Eventually, they remember their occupations. They don't know the year and are buried underground. They have limited food. There are religious themes running through the film. One man (Curt Doussett) believes the Creator of the experiment is still alive. The others believe he is dead. There is a Dante's Infernal book on the table. As they await the return of the Creator, the film marvelously feels like a combination of "Waiting for Godot" and "No Exit." Food is going missing. The doctor is ill and is dying. They believe someone else is down there with them. There is also a stash of food behind a door with a keypad. If only they had the number.

Fair plot but the lack of lighting and editing made the film almost unwatchable. BTW John Wick used Dante in his film. PLOT SPOILER: The ending was a Sisyphus twist.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Cold
kosmasp30 September 2023
No pun intended - just the title translated and all that. Although I reckon judging by the rating, maybe I do mean a bit more than that. That aside, the movie does look quite good - and the overall story has its merits to say the least. But there is something missing - especially when it comes to the end - nice twist and all, but not enough to put this over the top.

Or keep you awake I reckon - another pun? Well take it with a grain of salt. Or whatever is available I reckon. The question is: what would you do, if you find yourself in that situation? Tough to say, especially with the memory being a tricky thing ... which makes sense ... I mean being asleep for so long. If you like Science Fiction give it a try - but the poster may be the best thing about it (that is really super cool - in a not cold way)
