We have a relatively quiet week of Blu-ray & DVD releases to look forward to, but there are still a few things for genre fans to get excited about. Bong Joon Ho’s Memories of Murder is getting the Criterion treatment this Tuesday, and if you haven’t had the chance to check it out yet, you’ll definitely want to give The Mortuary Collection a watch as well. Other releases for April 20th include At Night Comes Wolves, Death Ranch, A Werewolf in England, and Interviewing Monsters and Bigfoot.

Emotional abuse, when not accompanied by the physical, is often neglected and forgotten in discussions around the subject. But a person can be laid low by constant berating and belittlement, even if their abuser, on occasion, provides some solace of praise or love. Due to its often low production budget, classic exploitation cinema took up trendy, loud, controversial, extreme or niche matters while looking for other avenues of interest for viewers. Although many of them fell into oblivion, a drawer labelled B-class cinema, some gained the status of cult films. Tj Marine in his At Night Comes Wolves follows the patterns of exploitation cinema by showing misogyny and the objectification of women.
The American director tells the story of Leah (Gabi Alves) who is going through a deep crisis in her marriage. Despite her efforts to satisfy the needs of her husband, Daniel (Jacob Allen Weldy), she meets with his indifference and the expectation of artificial submission. As the tension escalates between them, Leah gets in the car and drives in blind frustration, without a specific goal, until the fuel runs out. The lack of a way out of the situation pushes her into.
