A work of pure fiction
guycullen-291162 September 2020
If the Marvel franchise made a film about the eponymous Pate Tate, this would be it. As mildly entertaining as it was there is not a single morsel based in fact. They portrayed Tony Tucker, a sociopathic, mindless nutter as a giggling buffoon and Craig Rolfe as his sidekick/punchline. With themes stolen from 'The Business' the film's only saving grace is Craig Fairbrass's brutal portrayal of a truly evil and narcissistic individual who had no regard for anyone or anything. In conclusion it's worth a watch but it's more a comedy than a serious biographical endeavour

heavy duty for the essex boys, though the first is the best
ops-525358 November 2019
There is a hersay about the brits that they are..........! and this film really shows the cruel side of it. its as you may expect, coke, lots of f-words, and c-words, a whole lot of beating stabbing and shooting, stealing ,cheating and messing around. and in marbella, there are of course no policia/bobbies or bills around, not even a siren, just nice big houses with big bath tubs and of course some british crooks.

i think that even a nitwit can understand that this cant be a reflection of true events. but there are some funny sideshow of bipolar origin that goes tandem with the bad attitude, and if it hadnt been for these moments i would have walked out of the aula.

its the rise of the footsoldier, the grumpy old man understands that, but the mix of gaelic and keltish rumblethumb like king rollo on a high are just good enough for a five.a dig for the blood and gore fan...

If you like British gangster films, then watch this, if not STILL watch this
nickgash-671-77591316 November 2019
Really good, I've seen all of the films in the franchise. This is the least 'gritty' of them, lots of one liners, but some good beatings dished out by Craig.

Acting is good, a few of the supporting actors weak, but nothing major.

All in all, I love this. Just rented from Apple for £5.99 and I'm left satisfied.

Good hangover movie.
craigthemason-6267717 March 2022
Story was alright, not too basic, not too complex.

Action was pretty good.

Would watch again in 3+ years Might have to watch the other "Rise of the footsoldier"s now. Didn't realise it was a thing.

March 2022.

Why do Brits think non-stop swearing makes them tough?
powderuk24 June 2020
Yet another Brit action film where every second word is an expletive. It is boring, old and tired. It doesn't make the character look tough, just foul mouthed. It's lazy and long had its day. As for the film, if you turn the sound off and watch, it's worth 4 stars. Volume on, 2 stars.

The FALL of the Essex boys
fc_888 November 2019
I only really wanted to watch this as I wanted to see Conor Benn portraying his dad. I mean hey I even rented the movie and didn't stream it. It wasn't the worse movie I just know that if it does half well they will keep making more.. I'm sure they can't have done THAT much after the murders? Terry Stones character is getting silly now.

I don't understand how at the end of the film they go through the effort of getting an old police car for the scene outside the club for whatever year it was meant to be, but the scene in Amsterdam they were just completely lazy and didn't care about their surroundings.

Scenes in Marbella shot very well I must say but I think the story needs to end now!

best since original
zacharymorg2 June 2020
Alright, anybody who follows brit gangster films knows the essex boys have been movie fodder in countless projects. I have seen each rotf film and first is still best.......part 2 was decent with part 3 being about the same. However, rotf 4 was such a refreshing addition to the franchise, tight and easy to follow story as well. The boys are running low on x pills and that means no punters in their clubs( people want to take x and dance!) not to mention coke dealers are moving in on their action! This leads pat (fairbrass) to engineer a bold plan to rob a british drug dealer who has transplanted to a lovely house in spain with his conniving wife. I dont want to give much away but what makes this one diff from the rest in the franchise is the emphasis on comedy more than in the previous, the banter between manookian and stone as rolfe and tucker worth the price of admission alone. DEF WORTH A RENT AT THE LEAST!!

Barely related to the originals, the worst of them still
horst6912 November 2019
Wooden acting, scenes that don't even try to fit together, let alone create a coherent story .

Stereotypes, boredom, and more stereotypes . And still no writing or editing that makes it a comprehensible tale of sorts .

Filming and visuals are ok, but the acting, directing and script are tacky and cheap .

Fairbrass definitely a bad mofo in the fourth foot soldier film..
joshjack-356807 December 2021
I've seen every rise of the foot soldier film since the first. The 2nd...3rd and then this one. The heist. Craig fairbrass is one of my favorite British actors EVER!!!! Right up there with tom hardy. But fairbrass is a bad MF in these foot soldier films. This one was brutal..really brutal. But had some funny scenes as well. Especially when his associates take a trip to Amsterdam 😆. But honestly..craig fairbrass is the perfect actor for these British gangster films..

Take no notice of negative reviews.
mcleanmuir13 September 2020
I knew what I was going to get with this film having watched the previous ones in the series. It's not a blockbuster by all means but it knows it's place. If you like London gangster movies you will like this. It has a good soundtrack to boot. Looking forward to number 5.

Big, Bad Pat Tate is Back (again)
jrbond-5762410 December 2019
I rated this movie a 5. It won't test your grey matter, in fact, your brain isn't necessary for this movie. It's got a very simple and easy to understand plot, lots of heavy duty swearing, and lots of gratuitous violence. Having said all that, it was a very easy film to watch and it moves along at a reasonable pace. It's never boring and if you're looking for a movie with cockney villains running around Marbella hitting people, being nasty, nefarious and downright criminal You'll really enjoy this film. I've seen all the Footsoldier movies and this is not the worst one at all. It won't rock your world of be life changing, but it's not as bad as some of the 1* reviews would suggest. It would have been nice to see a bit more of Marbella, but this movie isn't trying to win any awards for cinematography! A 5* is about right, not bad, not brilliant.

Fictional Pat Tate but enjoyed the film.
luke-mori198625 November 2019
Obviously the first one will always be the best. Let's not forget that the first two were based on facts from Carlton Leach's involvement with Pat Tate etc. Now it seems as if Pat Tate is a fictional character. In the third and fourth installment there are very small elements that resemble something he may have done but they are both so very far from the truth, almost a complete work of fiction. However if you switch off from the fact that this is supposed to be a real person based on facts and take it as just a UK gangster film, I don't think it's too bad. It's actually quite funny in places too and certainly not a boring film by any means.

You'll laugh and snigger at how ridiculous it is, but it is undeniably quite entertaining
jimbo-53-18651131 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Pat Tate is out of the clink and he's doing fine. Except he's got a bee in his bonnet about the bloke that put him away. Pat being Pat soon masterminds a deal in Marbella and enlists the help of his friends, but will the enormity of the task at hand and the stupidity of his friends prove too much or will Pat live to fight another day...

I'm aware that this is based on a true story and that these are supposedly real people, but the film at times is so comical and so ridiculous that it is almost impossible to take serious...

Yes I'm aware that this is based on a real person and allegedly on real events, but seriously nobody in their right mind would believe anything that they're seeing here...

Pat Tate (one of the biggest psychopaths of old London town) is going to show mercy on his friends after they were responsible for losing all his money (Tony and Rolfe). I haven't seen the other films so can't comment further, but given Pat's demeanour his dismissive attitude seems unlikely.

This was an enjoyable film and one that I would recommend, but it clearly glamorises violence in a way that will upset some folk. It's Goodfellas in the sun or a low rent The Business.. still it does the job In the sense that I found it entertaining.

Reasonable entertainment, but not a brilliant film.

Terrible
curtisratcliff12 September 2020
I don't know where to start, this is terrible, Terry Stone isn't hard and doesn't come across as hard and ruins an already pathetic effort of a film, this is garbage and a waste of 90 minutes of your life and just makes you want to slap Terry around his little head.

More fun with the lads from Southend...
stevperr-819779 January 2020
This is a decent watch if you're after a quick fix of fighting and swearing. The story-line is basic and easy to follow even after a few pints, and there are some genuinely hilarious moments thrown in. Nice 'Easter-egg' in the airport hallucination scene by the way ;)

Let it DIE already!
leasmith-2536514 December 2019
Rented it but what a mistake that was, used to enjoy these types of films but there's been so many now the level is so low.

The fact they've got a gobby TOWIE bird on there is just the icing, no structure, no script, bad acting & plain souless. May play well for the deluded Essex crowd but for the rest of us this belongs in the 2000's & even then it would have been average. So far removed the people that made it are throwing a nostalgic trip from when they were in their 30's, now the majority of them are getting facelifts & dying every strand of hair on their body with jet black hair dye. Trash.

it's lame, but just about watchable
r96sk11 January 2021
An improvement on 3.

'Rise of the Footsoldier 4: Marbella', like two of its three predecessors, isn't good. However, this one is more of a less serious outing for the series. It still features the, let's be honest, cringey wannabe-esque gangster stuff, but this one probably has the most comedic intentions. All the issues from the earlier films remain, in truth.

I never really cared for the main plot, though I didn't have a bad time watching it unfold - it's lame, but just about watchable. My 'favourite' part of this is the, unofficially titled, Adventures of Tony & Craig - they practically go on a road trip and it is amusing. The ending is kinda humorous, too.

Cast-wise it's, like all of the 'Rise of the Footsoldier' productions, average at best. Everyone gives a forgettable performance unfortunately, Craig Fairbrass has enough about him to lead satisfactorily but there isn't a true standout. Cool seeing boxer Conor Benn portray father Nigel though.

I see a fifth film is on course to land later this year. It's actually impressive that they've managed to craft this many stories from the one, true life, event. I plan on checking it out when it's released.

Boorish, British, bad.....
s327616915 January 2020
Boorish, that my first and lasting impression of Brit flick Rise of the Foot-soldier: Marbella.

Its populated with the sort of rude, loud, entitled, larger swilling yobs, you see on holiday in places like Spain, where most of this film takes place. The only distinction is these characters are murderous armed mobsters.

Then there's the predictable gangster molls, who seem to spend most of their time lounging on deck chairs looking vamp-ish and wearing not a lot.

The only upside, if this thing has one, is its well shot and some of the acting is quite reasonable.

In short a very basic and mostly awful "Lock Stock knock off". I managed about 30 minutes before I felt my brain starting to melt and decided, for sanity's sake, to call it quits.

2/10.

The boys are back!!
OfficialCoachDanny8 November 2019
"So what has it got to do with you nose ointment"

Big bad "Yetti" Pat Tate is back, and Craig Fairbrass Along with his terrific co stars, Terry Stone (Tucker) and Roland Manookian (Rolfe) have made these roles their own, They continue where we left off from ROTF3 as big and bad as ever, filled with brilliant one liners, comedy and as always gritty violence these movies just get better, I really hope we get more of these, sure we all know the characters ultimate demise but with the way these characters have captured audiences I hope that we get more instalments, absolutely terrific movie with stellar performances, as we have come to expect 8/10

A funny installment
wbafanclub1212 July 2021
I don't know how long they will get away with it for, but another Installment of Rise of the footsoldier is on us, and it also looks as though a 5th one will be landing first.

The four films so far have taken us through a bit of a journey. The first, and probably the best film in its own right was relatively serious being based on true characters and events. Followed by 2 and 3 which were good if you are into the genre of Essex gangsters. But four has had a bit of a revamp.

Four has been made as almost a comedy. That is to say it is not even trying to take itself as seriously as its predecessors. The directing and the screenwrite has not been as on pitch and the storyline is a bit rough around the edges. And it's got exactly the same 'hardmen' who were in it before, even if some are playing different characters. Plenty of drugs, breasts, brasses and fights. Even an honourable homage to Nigel Benn But it is funny throughout, almost ridiculing the genre although the main man, Craig Fairbrass (Pat Tait) is as brooding, serious and psychotic as ever.

Managed to get Essex, Amsterdam and Spain into this one. Quite enjoyable and I am looking forward to the 5th.
