Nowhere near Pretham1
sg09252 January 2019
This is focussed more on trying to scare you rather than the fun-filled and natural flow of the first Pretham. Plot is not bad. But spoiled it by the attempts to make you scare

Less Fun, Less Fear
Abijit_Radhakrishna28 December 2018
Ranjith Shankar's 'Pretham 2', on being looked at from a structural point of view, is not very different from 'Pretham' (2016). That is to say, the sequel follows a narrative pattern similar to what we saw in John Don Bosco's uncanny adventures with Denny, Shibu and Priyalal in 'Pretham' (2016). We see in 'Pretham 2', a group of young people who are witty, and jealous of Mentalist Bosco's ability to do what he does. We also see the recurring tale of a troubled soul who fell prey to cyber violence, its thirst for answers and vengeance, etcetera. The elaborate final showdown of the two movies are identical, yet contextually different.

'Pretham 2' isn't as cliched as its trailer. It is not at all the typical ghost story which unfolds in the old 'mana'. In fact, it cannot be called as a horror flick since it doesn't make the average viewer horrified, although the tagline says "double the fun, double the fear". Talking about the 'fun' aspect, there isn't much, that is, if you are not into jokes made through movie references. Mangalassery Neelakantan seems okay at the beginning, but becomes more or less out of place as the plot thickens. The other characters seem alright, although they were just placed to magnify the glory of the Mentalist. Jayasurya, as always, did justice to his character, and Sarita Jayasurya's costumes have given him more of a carnivalesque bliss.

In comparison to the sequel, 'Pretham' (2016) had a more believable plot. But the technical aspects seem better in 'Pretham 2' especially the shots and certain (nearly) Dutch angles which were too good. The background tracks were of some class, but seem misplaced on many occasions.

Overall, the sequel is a one time watch even for a conventional family audience, since there is very less 'adult comedy' when compared to 'Pretham' (2016). The bottom line is, 'Pretham 2' is a decent film which has equal parts of awesomeness and mediocrities.

No script just wanted to make a second part.
soorajjohnson3 January 2019
Poor story line, worse acting, overall boring and fake hype to attract audience. Should stop making such stupid films, I bet my life whoever given 10/10 rating for this movie have not paid for his tickets and mostly doing a paidpromotion. We respect Jaysurya, but really this was not something which was watchable.

Worse Than Pretham.
AbhinandDas18 February 2019
Pretham 2 being the sequel of Pretham 2016 revolves around the title character Don John Bosco. The story is about the gathering of social media friends for filming a movie and the troubles they get into. Mentalism is the key factor in the movie but failed to explore its wideness. Alike Pretham the first half of the movie is full of creepy dialogs and situations. The film lacked a strong script and the characterization of the characters apart from John was a misfit. The storyline was full of logical loopholes which couldn't be covered by the narration and making. Having the shades of a horror movie, Pretham2 lacked strong technical support.

Negatives: * Apart from the Title character the rest was horrible. * Cliche and poor writing. * Cinematography and background score failed to bring the needed thrill and mood to the story.

Positives: * Execution of mentalism and deception was better when compared to the whole movie.

Waste!
venu_kannur29 December 2018
Nothing compared to the first part! Poor acting, poor script, poor story line....just disappointing. Waste of money and on top of that does injustice to the craft of mentalism too by promoting pseudoscience. It is not that fantasy is bad for the movie, but not in the name of mentalism. Poor consultation by Aathi.

Pretham 2 is a horror comedy. But it is neither funny nor scary.
Azanspy7 March 2019
I'll say what Pretham 2 is. A senseless disastrous movie. Mollywood has done atleast okay in this genre like Ezra or 9. Pretham 2 is one of the worst movies I have ever seen for every aspects of the movie, be it direction, performance, editing, music, visual effects etc. It is one of the very few movies I have rated 1 star. It is not worth a penny and your time.

Very good movie
cinemafans-2730511 March 2019
Pretham 2 is a very interesting movie. I know why people saying bad about this movie. This is the best malayalam movie of 2018. This is not a typical New generation malayalam movie. This is a proper movie not a telefilm like new generation movies. Jayasuriya performed amazingly. Dain Davis and Sudharth Siva handled comedy portions of this movie in a great manner. This movie is a full time entertainer. It is a successful comedy, thriller and horror movie. Movies like this must be made again in malayalam language. Very good direction also.

One-Line Review: Pretham 2 (2 Stars)
nairtejas4 March 2019
A lamp lighting itself, active wind flowing, voltage fluctuations, ceiling fans running without electricity, random shadows and silhouettes of people, handmade dolls, burnt, black-colored milk, a burning cake, lightweight materials flying, a person almost drowning, metal sculptures falling down and standing erect by themselves, a deactivated Facebook account operating by itself, a Macbook shutting down abruptly, a burning lantern, a custom pack of playing cards, and a Facebook profile with the name of Joker but the profile picture of Pennywise - and that's Ranjith Sankar's gassy sequel to his 2016 horror drama, Pretham 2 (Ghost 2) for you. TN.

Watchable if you have a lot of patience
frank-cyriac2 August 2020
I can't believe I'm saying this but pretham 2 is way worse that the prequel. The character played by sidhartha siva is probably the most annoying character I have seen in a while.

Just another copy movie
edwinch-011469 June 2019
There is nothing original in this movie unlike the first Pretham movie. The movie felt more like a cbi sethuramayyar movie. The writer could have researched a bit more on mentalism and how to use it in a movie.

OK IF NOT COMPARED WITH FIRST
sreeragmeppadath25 February 2019
The movie is watchable but still it's not so interesting. The comedy is not working out and acting is terrible.Just an agenda for the makers to talk against piracy.Nothing more.Lazy script.Anyway it's just ok to watch due to good direction.
