typical psychopath criminal obsession lifetime movie
NijazBaBs27 February 2019
This is another lifetime movie about obsession. Good thing is that it is realistic like many others similar movies. Bad thing is that there is nothing unusual or new. Most details are skipped and fake. Good insight, lesson, and idea. But not one of the better or best movies there is.

Standard stalker fare with an Instagram element
phd_travel26 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is a moderately watchable Lifetime movie starts like a warning about social media - here an instagram type app. Concerned parents take action when their teen daughter attracts a stalker. The cast is likeable and at least the daughter doesn't act too bratty after things get more serious. Later it turns into a more routine guess the wacko after some false leads. Finally the real wacko gives an explanation for his behaviour that isn't that convincing. The action in the climax is fairly intense for Lifetime.

Not too different from other stalker thrillers.

Anyone else tired of spoiled brat teen characters and idiot parents who are patient with said teens to the point of nearly getting their entire family killed? I am!

Crap!
haroot_azarian24 September 2020
The plot was pathetic, unrealistic and dumb! The acting was crap by everyone including Sullivan who in other LMN movies has done much better in comparison. Don't bother with this one!

Watchable.....but predictable.
Carriexoc14 June 2019
If you have some time to watch.....do it! The acting is good!!! The premise is ok. It's just that the writing is so darn predictable. So just go into watching it knowing that you are getting a typical Lifetime movie. 😟

The Instagram killer!!
coltras3526 July 2022
A teenager becomes an internet star, but her mother's fears about the attention she starts receiving prove justified when she realises someone is stalking her daughter.

More squeaky-voices, pretty women and unhinged villain. The good thing about this one is that the culprit isn't revealed till the end, though it's fairly obvious who it is, having sniffed out that red herring. Nevertheless, this an enjoyable watch, has good characters and passes the time adequately.

Getting "Noticed" on Social Media
lavatch16 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
"Instakiller" opens with a lecture of Layla Woods, a college instructor of literature. Her theme is obsession in the Homer's "The Iliad," wherein Paris was obsessed with Helen and abducted her. Helen's husband Menelaus was obsessed with getting her back. The Greeks then became obsessed with destroying Troy. In this film, the obsession is slightly more modest as a stalker is in relentless pursuit of Layla's daughter.

Young Harper is the daughter of Layla and Derek, a doting father. The parents consider Harper to be a miracle child as she received a heart transplant in the past year. She also has a talent for fashion, and she is hoping to get into the prestigious Edward Academy.

But Harper has an obsession of her own to attract a large following on social media to improve her career chances. It turns out that she gets noticed by an admirer who will stop at nothing in his pursuit of her. The number of suspects in the film is extremely limited. None of Layla's students appears out of the ordinary. And at Derek's coffee stop, called "Déja Brew," there appear to be two harmless friends of Harper, including the café employee Joey and Harper's good friend Russ. The plot thickens when Russ is arrested, then the stalker reappears, sending Harper's date Chad on a trip to the hospital with a concussion and broken ribs.

With the police not very helpful and the well-meaning but innocuous Derek not pro-active, it is up to Layla to demonstrate her unconditional love for her daughter by tracking down the stalker. She enlists the help of Paige, a computer expert at her college, to help find the mystery man.

The characters were all well-performed, especially the mother, who was convincing as a teacher and a devoted mom. The film's message about the dangers of advertising oneself on social media was a soft one. In the denouement, Harper's computer privileges were restored with only a minor admonition after the instakiller met his match against the indomitable mother whose love for her daughter is boundless.

Annoying and cringey
mengland-6281315 May 2023
This is pretty dire, I predicted the stalker in the first 20 minutes. The acting leaves a lot to be desired and the family are really cheesy, it made me cringe at times, the dad in particular is annoying.

Decent lesson about exposing too much online but that's about all it has going for it! I've been generous with two stars.

I can recommend this as background noise if you're like me and prefer to have something playing in the background while you work without having to concentrate too hard.

I can't leave this review without commenting on the dinner date, the female actor sat there pushing food around her plate with a fork, why do people do this?! Eat it properly with a knife and fork and if you have finished eating then lay your cutlery on your plate and stop playing with it. Phew, rant over.

The worst movie I've ever seen
ellawild26 December 2021
I made this IMDb account, purely because I was so outraged at how awful this movie is.

The "twist" is predictable from pretty much the beginning of the movie.

The daughter is genuinely unlikeable, none of the characters have any depth.

I'm actually mad, that I just wasted an 1 hour and 28 minutes of my life on this movie, but I really really tried to give it a chance, but it was just horrendous.

It feels like it was written by a middle age man, who knows nothing about the internet, who just wants to send a message/scare teenagers into "getting off your phone" - which, is repeated at least twice within the first 30 minutes of the movie. I would of given 0 stars but because that's not an option I'm giving it 1. Don't waste your time.

Spoilt from the beginning

Warning: Spoilers
Does the poster really have to make it obvious who the killer is? There was no point watching it. So many better stalker movies out there. Don't waste your time.

Even for lifetime
jammer-0158914 December 2021
Very predictable. I had the stalker pinpointed within the first 20 minutes. There were two ok moments in terms of portrayals of real life in one and sheer terror in the other that earned this film its two stars. Dad and female friend are both particularly terrible.

Not worth watching
angelbaby-0090214 April 2024
I got through 25 minutes before I couldn't take it any longer. The acting is terrible and feels forced to the point of cringe. I'm sick of how bratty and disrespectful these teens are to the parents and then the parents respond with a smile? This is what happens when you don't teach your children, when the are young, about respect nor do parents discipline (no I don't mean hitting) them for bad behavior and then the kid ends up growing up and being disrespectful to you...ahhhh yeah, ya think? I hated the part where the daughter is shutting down her Internet account and it shows all her followers avidly watching in real time like they worship her...so creepy. This new lifestyle of exposing your personal life on the Internet for fame, money or in the case of this movie both those plus admittance to a fashion school. I find that appalling that a college should value that in a student to the point of acceptance or rejection. The stalker of the movie is EXTREMELY obvious to the point that it's laughable. I'm so glad I listened to myself and checked out reviews, after such low ratings, I skipped ahead and of course was right about the who the stalker is, smh.
