Routine Movie from the POV of a Girl.
harishmadireddi11 June 2020
Gantumoote is better though the lead actress did perform well but the story didnt have its weight after the first break up of june. No proper reason for why 2nd boy was rejected why she have to marry alex at last. Songs where good enough.

Gets the nostalgia going in the first half! [+62%]
arungeorge131 May 2019
'June' is a movie that ticks off every box in the nostalgia checklist of a young adult. It chronicles the life of June (played by a ravishing Rajisha Vijayan) from the age of 16 (i.e. class XI) to 26 (her marriage). What's surprisingly good about the film, other than a splendid performance by Rajisha, is the way director Ahammed Khabeer revives memories of school-time crushes, youth fests, the time spent after classes at bakeries, and all the fun we've had as a vibrant bunch of students.

Therefore, without a doubt, I can say that the 'school' portions of the movie are the best. It is where Rajisha the performer comes across as strikingly versatile too, with a brilliant set of expressions that she puts to use at various points. If one doesn't get reminded of good times from school by watching 'June', then chances are you might have not had a great adolescent phase at all. The innocence, the anger, the sadness, the joy, the arrogance, and the annoyance - they're all portrayed quite well. Above all, the cutesy charm that Rajisha exudes makes even the silliest of scenes enjoyable.

The supporting cast is pretty good too - Sarjano Khalid is wooden at times, and the dubbing for him is a little off. The rest of them, although stereotyped at times, are the kind I hope to see more in Malayalam cinema. Joju George, Aswathi Menon, Arjun Ashokan, and Aju Varghese lend ample support whenever required. The scripting by Libin Varghese, Ahammed Khabeer, and Jeevan Baby Mathew does show signs of lag in the second half when June goes the Ohm Shanthi Oshaana route, but the extremely heart-warming climax, although appearing a little rushed, is where the film redeems itself.

As is the case with the month of June in Kerala, a few essential scenes in the movie are set against the backdrop of the rain and the director handles them subtly. Now that being said, the generally jovial nature of the first half kind of contrasts with the more mature-but not-quite-there-yet tone of the second. Yes, it is a coming-of-age story alright, but even at 26 (and with the quintessential marriage scene playing out), we feel that there's more to June than what we see of her in 140 minutes.

And speaking of cliches, there are a few easy-to-spot ones. Like June's choice to be with the (more) handsome guy Noel (with a rich dad) than the grounded (and more local) Anand - we all know that there will be a realization scene where June finds out that her dream guy was more of a self-centered snob (surprise! surprise!). Another one clearly picks on Kerala's obsession with women in 'thattam', which has gotten really blah by now.

Ifthi's music is definitely one of the film's plus points. The music is easy on the ears and keeps the proceedings buoyant at all times. Rajisha's physical transformation from adolescent to adult is pulled off well too, and kudos to the actress for her efforts. Cinematography by Jithin Stanislaus is excellent when he places the focus on the little (but joyous) things - like June's school bag, her braces-smile, waves hitting her feet, and more along those lines.

There's more to like than whinge in 'June' which is why you should give it a watch without question.

Over hyped
soorajr0618 June 2019
Average movie. Good effort from actors Rajisha, joju and arjun Ashokan. The other characters and story lacked depth. The first half which revolved around the school days also didn't offer much entertainment or nostalgia.

Really Good
joppanLive2 May 2019
The movie looks fresh and awesome. The climax and 2nd half could have made more better. But still 'June' qualifies as a strong competitor for the best movie of 2019. Watch it, never be a disappointment for sure.

Love is transitory
raihanaminrana20 May 2019
Love is transitory. Today's rising love is all too soon tomorrow's washed-up has been. There goes a proverb:"When you like a flower, pluck it;when you love a flower, water it".That is,love isn't just affection towards one another. It has many aspects. After all ,we must accustomed to what we are lotted and we had to define love in that way. During the movie, you will feel an attraction towards the inverse of the moral.

Beautiful movie
anujajosph22 February 2019
Just loved the movie for its content, humour, cuteness and above all for REJISHA's wonderful performance. All the supporting actors were also great. This movie just brought me back to all the things that I have experienced as a typical teenager. The songs by Ifthi are beautiful n meaningful. Hats off to the crew for nailing it. After all letting go of 9 Kg of beautiful hair became worthy!!

Only worth watching for the part of arjun ashokan
Leven_the_critic21 May 2019
Lead actress is too annoying to be taken seriously. She doesn't have to do the same character in every single movies she's casted. The only good part wss is that of the scenes of arjun ashokan. The guy has a charm that could make the movie work if the actress was some one else with a story that could relate to real life. Songs was good too. Rest of it is trash not even worth watching again

Let's step into a girl's shoes.
Azanspy21 February 2019
This was the tagline of June before starting the movie. And June captures a girl's teenage life to adulthood beautifully. The titular role of June is played by Rajisha Vijayan and she has done an outstanding job. The different age segment of the movie, be it age 16 or 26, Rajisha suited in excellently in all categories. Arjun Ashokan steals the show as a supporting character. Joju George also did a very good job. Sarjan Khalid was not good enough in some places as his dubbing was poor. The school life of June in the first half was very nostalgic and beautifully captured. Overall, June is a good watch and an addition to the list of student life stories like Premam and Ohm Shaanthi Oshaana.

Capsule Review: June (6 Stars)
nairtejas5 May 2019
I would have recommended a small-scale standing ovation to you after completing watching Ahammed Khabeer's June for being a genuinely appealing coming-of-age drama in the Malayalam scene if it had not resorted to re-enact some of the Malayalam pop culture towards the end. While the talented and equally charming Rajisha Vijayan carries the titular character through her high school, college, and work days with great panache, it is her crossing the line of threshold and becoming Nazriya Nazim of Jude Joseph's Ohm Shanthi Oshaana (2014) that messed up some of the scenes which would have otherwise been novel and more enjoyable. Narrating the breezy story of a single daughter of an able and strict parents (Joju George reassuring us about his acting depth and Aswathi Menon following up her comeback in Raffi's Role Models (2017)), June takes you through a sort of predictable story, which is why I am focusing on the individual elements that it is made up of. Shoots of delightful comedy, romance, and drama that describe this teenager's evolution to a woman with a fair share of insecurities and mood swings is what makes June a watchable affair, possibly with your parents and siblings and friends. There is also a lot of creativity that has went behind June's production. So, if you have an eye for art, this will be even more exciting to see unravel than it will be for an average moviegoer who likes novelty more than anything, especially if we talk about a part in the film that reminds us of Alphonse Putharen's Premam (2015). The newcomers are all fantastic. So, you should give this a go if you care. TN.

Nostalgic girlie movie
shyammukundan17 February 2019
"June" Malayalam movie This the story of June Sara Joy from her adolescence to teenage ... her higher secondary days, college days, her job at Mumbai ... her interactions with parents, classmates ... her love affairs ... ultimately the climax ... neatly narrated story in 140 minutes. Rajisha Vijayan as 'June' has matured well enough, to carry this female centric movie on her shoulders. Rajisha is well supported by Joju as her father and others. Music is superb, art direction is interesting. This story was picturized in many other movies.... but presentation theme is different. Progression of the movie is in a non linear pattern, with well edited flash-backs. 7.5 on 10 for this girlie movie. Let's step into a girl's shoe ... very nostalgic scenes shot from her school, amongst friends, during break-ups, her emotional world.

A good run for a Malayalam movie fan
harelives28 May 2019
I'd say this is a great addition to the modern wave of Malayalam cinema. If you are a drama, romance lover with a slow approach, this is a good movie for you. Rajisha has done a great job. She knows how to express the needed. And as usual the rest of the cast is doing their best. As the first movie of the directer/writer it's obvious to see something like this. Let's hope he'd do amazing things in the future.

Nostalgic movie Easy going music + Perfect choice of singers Rajisha vijayan

As a debut film it did have its little expected and forgivable flaws but I see future for the entire cast and crew.

Special mention to the music director and outstanding selection of singers. Every scene in the movie was melodic and every singer sounded different and fresh!!

An amazing feel good movie
Dantheman139 May 2019
This movie is filled with emotions. Rajisha Vijayan proved that she is the best actress in malayalam film industry. The people who criticizes this movie is saying there is no good story, but the way this movie is presented is top-class. Really good direction and music from the debutantes. One of the best feel good movies watched in the resent times. I really suggest you to watch it alone to get the full impact of the movie.

Boring as hell, skip it!
sivd2 April 2022
Watched on OTT Telugu, it's as boring as hell. I wish the movie is just 45 minutes, remaining time is a void. Must avoid, slow narration, confused acting, below average performances... and it's definitely not Jun, it's hot humid Hyderabad April, watch other Malayalam movies with aub titles.
