Paramount Pictures revealed yesterday evening that the animated sequel's release has been significantly shifted, moving from its original October 2026 date to September 17, 2027.

This substantial delay reportedly arises from logistical hurdles faced by Paramount's international animation studios, the same teams responsible for the unique animation of the first film – Mikros Animation in Paris (Plankton: The Movie) and Cinesite in Montreal.

Previously Set For Oct. 9, 2026, the sequel to “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” will now open a year later on Sept. 17, 2027. However, “Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie,” which was previously set for a July 31, 2026 release, is opening wide a week earlier on July 24, 2026.

The Apple TV+ series The Studio is known for featuring big-name filmmakers playing themselves. Writer-director Andrew DeYoung’s Friendship, featuring Tim Robinson in his first starring film role, boasts a strong supporting cast, including the likes of Paul Rudd, Kate Mara, and Jack Dylan Grazer. The movie's limited May 9 theatrical release, followed by a wide release on May 23, marks the second A24 flick to head to theaters in quick succession for Rudd, with Death of a Unicorn failing to capture audience imagination. Earning just $15 million at the global box office to date, which is only just enough to recoup the film's reported production budget, a 54% on review Rotten Tomatoes solidifies just how poorly Death of a Unicorn has performed.

Thankfully for Rudd, the upcoming Friendship will look to turn the tide on his A24 fortune, with early reviews of the movie on the aforementioned review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes seeing the film earn a huge 91% critic approval rating, almost double the score achieved by Death of a Unicorn.

Sorry, Arnold Schwarzenegger, but you're not the funniest action movie legend alive, at least according to Seth Rogen. The star and co-creator of Apple TV+'s latest comedy series, The Studio, recently shared who has actually earned that title while browsing the Criterion Closet.

Rogen revealed that his Kung Fu Panda co-star Jack Chan was the "funniest living human being" during the latest episode of Criterion's Closet Picks series. After pulling a copy of Jackie Chan: Emergence of a Superstar off the shelf and listing the movies in the Criterion Blu-ray collection, Rogen stated, "Jackie Chan's the best. Funniest living human being, Jackie Chan. Hands down." Rogen previously worked with the action movie legend on DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu Panda franchise, voicing members of the Furious Five in the first three animated installments. Chan also voiced Splinter in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which was co-written by Rogen.

Following his acclaimed run as this year’s Oscars host, Conan O’Brien is back for the second season of “Conan O’Brien Must Go,” featuring Oscar winners Taika Waititi (“Jojo Rabbit”) and Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men”).

In this new season, O’Brien continues his trek around the world by visiting New Zealand, Austria and Spain. The official synopsis reads: “In this riotously funny travel series, Conan O’Brien experiences local cultures and connects with fans he previously met on his podcast.”

Are you an “Avatar: The Last Airbender” fan who has quietly…or not so quietly…been resenting that the show and its upcoming film have had to share that title with a different “Avatar”? Well, Paramount finally has an answer to that.

During the studio’s CinemaCon presentation, Nickelodeon and Paramount Animation president Ramsey Naito announced that when Aang makes his big screen debut next year, it will be with a film that bears his name: “The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.”

In his film debut, Korean singer-songwriter Eric Nam will voice Aang in the film, which is set years after the beloved Nickelodeon series and will follow him in his young adult years. Dave Bautista and Steven Yeun will also star in the film with “Rugrats” and “Fairly OddParents” voice star Dionne Quan and Jessica Matten.

“The Legend of Aang” is one of several Nickelodeon titles on Paramount’s film slate.

New Line President and Cco Richard Brener confirmed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Ice Cube had reached a deal to write and star in Last Friday, which will directly follow Friday After Next (2002). Ice Cube mentioned last summer that he was pushing for another Friday movie to get made, but that he wasn’t making any ground convincing Warner Bros. that it was worthwhile. For over 40 years, Roger Ebert was a fixture in film journalism. Ebert's film knowledge and approachable style proved invaluable for readers and viewers over the years. Ebert reviewed thousands of films for the Chicago Sun-Times, many of which can be found on RogerEbert.com, from 1967 until his death in 2013. In between, Ebert co-hosted At the Movies with Gene Siskel and, later, Richard Roper, from 1986 to 2008.

Rodeo FX, whose credits include “Game of Thrones,” “Dune,” “Dune: Part Two” and the “Fantastic Beasts” movies, has acquired Mikros Animation, the studio behind “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” “Orion and the Dark” and “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie.” Mikros was part of Technicolor, which closed its doors last month.

According to the official release, the acquisition includes “all of Mikros Animation’s operations, as well as Technicolor Canada’s equipment, as the studio’s activities are continuing uninterrupted following the recent shutdown of other entities of the Technicolor group.” When asked how many of the impacted employees would be brought over to Rodeo FX, the indication was a “vast majority” would be carried over.

Rodeo FX – a VFX company whose credits includes “Game of Thrones,” “Stranger Things” and work on Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” (parts 1 and 2) – reports that it acquired Technicolor’s Mikros Animation unit following parent Technicolor’s shut down last month. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. It’s also not immediately clear how many of the former Mikros Animation employees will join the venture.

Paris-headquartered Technicolor was the parent company of VFX giant Mpc, commercial VFX studio The Mill, Mikros Animation and Technicolor Gaming. It’s closure affected thousands of artists around the world. Following its shut down, which began on Feb. 24, Technicolor Games was acquired by global language translation and AI tech business Transperfect. Also, a band of employees that worked at The Mill in the U.S. launched a new venture, Arc Creative, backed by Dream Machine FX.

Montreal-based VFX firm Rodeo FX, the visual effects credits of which include Games of Thrones, Stranger Things, The Rings of Power, John Wick: Chapter 4 and Dune, has acquired former Technicolor Group subsidiary Mikros Animation.

Mikros Animation was among four France-based Technicolor Group subsidiaries alongside Mpc, The Mill and Technicolor Animations placed in receivership following the collapse of parent group at the end of February. The Paris Commercial Court was due to deliver its decision on offers for all the subsidiaries on Thursday.

With past credits including Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie, Orion and the Dark, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, VFX, post-production and animation company Mikros Animation was widely regarded as a hot property.

The Cinesite Group, the VFX, immersive and animation studio that is headquartered in London, has a renewed long-term funding package of $215m to continue its operations.

In 2022, a $235m funding package was laid out for Cinesite, led by banks NatWest and Barclays. The renewed package comes in response to changing market conditions. NatWest Corporate Bank led the financing of the $215m package, alongside banks Barclays and Santander, and Cinesite’s shareholders.

Upcoming projects on which Cinesite has worked include A24’s Warfare, Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson biopic Michael, Amazon MGM Studios’ G2O and Paramount Pictures’Smurfs.

Cinesite, a leading independent visual effects and animation studio collective, has received a long-term funding package worth $215 million to support continued operations, technological innovation and strategic expansion.

The London-based group said financing — a series of transactions — was led by its longtime bankers NatWest alongside Barclays and Santander. Its shareholders, including family office Gryphion, supported the overall package of senior and junior debt and equity lines.

The financial commitment “underscores the company’s ambitions and confidence in the entertainment sector,” the company said, and “empowers Cinesite to overcome the challenges posed by recent industry disruption that has affected the entire sector.”

Disruption is right. The funding comes weeks after storied VFX giant Technicolor filed for bankruptcy in the UK and France and shuttered its U.S. operations, including The Mill. The leadership team and much of that creative staff joined forces with Dream Machine FX on a new venture called Arc Creative.

One of the most prominent animation studios in American television, Nickelodeon has been delighting children since the early 1990s. When it comes to animation in modern cinema, fans often talk about Illumination, Dreamworks, Pixar and Disney. It's no surprise, given the amazing animated films these power players and industry stalwarts have put out over the decades. Properties like How To Train Your Dragon, Despicable Me, Toy Story, and Inside Out stand out. It's also not surprising many awards shows, like the Oscars, nominate and award them.

One unheralded 2024 movie beat out some big names from these studios to claim the Best Animated Feature Film award: Flow. The movie is a Latvian feature that was completely rendered with the free and open-source animation software Blender. It took over five years to make and told a story many would associate with the biggest brand of them all: Disney.

Just when it seemed like Seth Rogen couldn't do better, early word of mouth about his upcoming AppleTV+ series The Studio makes it his best-reviewed project on Rotten Tomatoes. Apple TV+ has unveiled a new trailer for Seth Rogen's upcoming comedy show, The Studio. The star-studded series will feature guest appearances from A-list actors in every episode.

Apple dropped the new trailer for The Studio ahead of the show's global premiere at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival's Opening Night TV Premiere event. Rogen stars as Matt Remick, the new head of a film studio struggling to stay relevant, as he and his team work to wrangle narcissistic artists and their corporate overlords while making great films. The ten-episode comedy will premiere globally on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, with a two-episode drop, followed by new episodes releasing weekly every Wednesday through May 21 on Apple's streaming platform.

If you were planning on discounting the upcoming "Barney" movie entirely, you might want to think again — because Ayo Edebiri has been tapped to write the script.

Mattel Films and A24 are teaming up for a "Barney" movie, and not only will Edebiri write it but, according to the official press release announcing the news, she may also star in the film as well. (Specifics on Edebiri's potential role aren't clear as of this writing.) Meanwhile, the movie is being produced by another industry powerhouse in the form of Oscar-winner Daniel Kaluuya, whose company 59% Productions is behind the project.

This is definitely an encouraging and, frankly, bizarre update (in a good way) when it comes to the "Barney" movie. So, what else do we know?

Well, in 2023, Kevin McKeon, a Mattel executive, revealed that the movie about the beloved purple dinosaur will be a lot weirder (and cooler?) than you probably expected.

After leaving its mark on the genre in 2024, A24 has revealed its first horror movie of 2025. The official trailer for Opus, starring The Bear's Ayo Edebiri, has been released.

Edebiri stars as Ariel Ecton in Opus, a young writer who is invited to the remote compound of legendary pop star, Alfred Moretti (Emmy winner John Molkovich), who mysteriously disappeared 30 years ago, for an "exclusive listening experience" he's putting on. "Surrounded by the star’s cult of sycophants and intoxicated journalists, she finds herself in the middle of his twisted plan," reads the synopsis. Character actor John Capodice, whose roles included a memorable performance as a law enforcement officer in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, has died. He was 83 years old.

Capodice's death was confirmed by a post on the website of the Pizzi Funeral Home in Northvale, New Jersey. A cause of death was not divulged, though Capodice died on Monday, Dec. 30, according to his obituary. It was noted that the actor "was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him."

Born in Chicago on Christmas Day in 1941, Capodice had just celebrated his 83rd birthday. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966, he began performing as an actor on the stage. He found early success by appearing in the play Getting Out, which won two Outer Critics Circle Awards in 1979. He also performed alongside John Lithgow and George Segal in a Broadway...

Actor John Capodice, who was probably best known for his roles in movies such as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and TV shows including Seinfeld and General Hospital, has died at the age of 83. One of those stars who has been seen by millions, even though many may not have his name on the tip of their tongue, Capodice leaves behind a body of work that incorporates over 200 acting credits.

Although Capodice never had that lead role, or long-running stint in a TV show, he certainly made his mark in the industry. That can be seen in the tributes that poured in on social media following the announcement of the actor’s passing. The news of his death was announced in a posting by the Pizzi Funeral Home, which read:

“John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him.
