Brilliant idea, solid execution
vkurcic11 April 2020
I think this movie is extremely underrated. It has a very interesting start and it keeps your full attention in the first hour. It gets a little common and dissappointing in the end, but it's still worth watching. It seems like writer didn't know how to fully develop a great idea, so he just half-succeeded. It is still a success, though.

Very well made, enjoyable flick!

After having seen the trailer, Initially I was wondering as to how could the story al inside the car could last for 90 minutes, but it's amazingly well done plus there is story outside the SUV as well. Commendable performances by all, good script keeps the movie interesting throughout.

Cat and the mouse
Lukypko1 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First 70 minutes of the film is very good, but then writers didn't know how to continue and how to conclude that.

The doctor come to the scene, then police.

Why doctor decided to burn himself, because as a doctor has access to more "user friendly" ways to kill himself. Yes doctor didn't plan that. He was playing a game like a cat with a mouse and miracle happen and mouse won.

Phenomenal until the 3rd act
halfxbreed2324 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked this movies premise. Any movie, and I mean ANY movie that can utilize a location like this ome has deserves praise and credit for that kind of accomplishment. However, why not end where it began?

In the third act we have an introduction of new characters and comoletely shifts the dynamic of the movie. It tried to be cute with a dream sequence and "near death". It was just trying to subvert rather than close out a well toned and decently paved film.

Again, please watch this film because it is really damn good for a large chunk of it but just doesn't stick the landing it was building up to.

VIEWS ON FILM review of 4x4
burlesonjesse516 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"Hello, welcome aboard". Uh-huh, whatever. Welcome to a nightmare of tinted windows, HAL on the Bluetooth, and soundproof interiors.

So yeah, 2019's 4x4 refers to an SUV, a four wheeler that would give any Plymouth Fury a run for its money. 4x4's main character (Ciro played by Peter Lanzani) gets trapped in the SUV after committing a swift B & E. Bummer. The owner of said SUV (Dr. Enrique Ferrari played by Dady Brieva) keeps Ciro in the car for days through some sort of annoying orchestration. Yup, we've got an Oldboy situation going on.

4x4 is a ruthless thriller that stretches its forecast at least for most of the way. Featuring Spanish subtitles and sparse dialogue, its first hour is pure simplicity and that's the highlight. Director Mariano Cohn uses one set location, one luxury conveyance, and one actor to create the shakes while nearly chilling you to the bone. Watching 4x4, I was actually scared as heck to get in my own car and shut the door. Like Jaws and the fear of water, 4x4 is Jaws with vinyl leather seating. Yeesh.

Lanzani in the lead role is literally unfeigned. He demonstrates amazing acting from a physical standpoint. Whether he's dying of thirst, dying of hunger, dying of cold, or dying of heat, you feel his twinge. I mean the dude is still a human being even though he's a yegg. It's only when 4x4 deviates from his bind and becomes a hostage pic that it loses its proverbial steam. Gone is the mystery, gone is the nasty gimmick, gone is most of the dramatic momentum. If 4x4 was trimmed down to an hour and ten minutes (the running time is 90), then it would've been a compact transmission of the highest order (pun intended, haha). In this case, less would have been more. Over the "cornering limit".

Could be good movie but it's just too implausible, there is just no way no one couldn't hear his banging on windows and doors no matter how sound proof car is

What would happen if honest peoples get mad and would make revenge of thiefts themselves? How would you do if you were a thief and you get trapped like a mouse? This is basically the equation of this movie, quite well realased and wrote showing a unsecured argentina feels like making people fachists and insulting human rights. Good and interesting thriller.

Interesting premise but ending poorly thought out
OneAnjel4 October 2021
As much as I avoid having to read subtitles, I'm a sucker for a film set in one venue with one or 2 actors. It's a hard stunt to pull off for both director and actor. Which is why films like Cast Away, Open Water, Buried, and Wait Until Dark are so compelling. This one does a good job for about 3/4 of the film. Peter Lanzani gives a stellar performance. Then it seems to fall flat in its attempt to point out that only a crazy person would take a car trap to such extremes. The trap is not a new trick; however, it is illegal. Although well-done, it does seem a bit drawn out for what it is. The whole scene in the street could have been shortened by 10 minutes. On the other hand, if it were more intriguing it could have gone longer. But once the Dr. Arrives at the vehicle and the long ending begins, it felt like a different film.

A claustrophobic Argentine/Spanish co-production about a thief caged in a car.
ma-cortes18 December 2023
Peter Lanzani (Argentina 1985) stars in this exciting thriller, directed by Mariano Cohn (The Illustrious Citizen), in which he plays a thief who falls into his own trap. A luxury car, an SUV is parked in a neighborhood like many others in Buenos Aires. Ciro, a young thief, goes in to steal, for him it is simply another break-in inside a parked vehicle to get a stereo or any valuable object inside, a simple action with some vandalism, locking something and leaving quickly. Instead, he finds himself trapped inside the car and eventually realizes that there is no way to get out of there. The doors don't respond, neither do the windows, he tries to break them but when he wants to get out he can't, even though he uses all kinds of violent means. The petty thief needs to leave by any means necessary and at that moment he doesn't even care if he will be arrested for it. Then a male voice (Dady Brieva) communicates with him through the radio, that's when reality kicks in. The 4x4 turns out to be like an armored bunker.

This interesting film is about a claustrophobic situation that becomes frustrating, when a petty thief becomes completely locked in a car and the desperation and stress that this causes. The idea is apparently attractive and is concerned with exciting the audience and sometimes leaving the viewer on the edge of their seat, but you can also see the film on a deeper level related to society and how to address security problems in certain areas where Violence and robberies are common, running rampant and while the authorities cannot stop them. The vehicle in this film is a thinly disguised Toyota Fortuner, an SUV based on the popular Toyota Hi-Lux pickup truck. Made in 22 days, the film is based on a real news story that occurred in Brazil about a thief who was trapped in a car while trying to steal it. The key issue beyond the means in which our protagonist tries to escape from the car is how to survive this whole twisted mess. The main issue comes with another aspect that invites some reflection related to what ordinary people do to keep their properties safe. The director throughout the film keeps us trapped with the protagonist inside the car, exploring every inch of it to find a possible exit, slowly suffocating us in the claustrophobic environment from which the film does not emerge for a long time. All of the anxious desperation feels authentic, and even the small changes to his usual appearance worked well to present him as a suburban kid. The film is acceptable but nothing special, because we have already seen these situations of people locked up and using their own limited means on their own several times. This is why we have already seen these twisted incidents in other places, such as in tombs, swimming pools, in a very tall communication tower or telephone booths. In fact, the cult film ¨La Cabina¨ (1972) directed by Antonio Mercero with the great José Luís López Vázquez as the protagonist may be a precedent for this type of plot that has almost become a subgenre. Anyone who wants to revisit this short film can search for it on YouTube, where we can remember it for free. To play Ciro, Lanzani based himself on the claustrophobic performances of Colin Farrell and Ryan Reynolds, in the films "Phone Booth" and "Buried", respectively. The man played in the background is Dady Brieva (who, together with Peter Lanzani and Luis Brandoni as the mediator, are the only three actors involved) explains that after being the victim of many thefts in his numerous cars, he decided to install a powerful system that keeps the man locked up. Intruder with no possibility of escape and no possibility of being seen from the outside.

Co-production between the private Mediapro and Televisión Abierta and public entities: National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA), Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA). What I don't understand is why the production of state entities when the budget is minimal, a simple car, will logically be to receive the respective subsidy. The film was professionally directed by Mariano Cohn, providing many memorable sequences and solid performances. Cohn even gives himself a self-tribute: on the street he sees a poster for an imaginary sequel to The Man Next Door (2009), which Mariano co-directed with co-writer Gastón Duprat. In fact, Gastón Duprat and Mariano Cohn are regular collaborators, making some very decent films. They have directed a dozen films, with which they obtained more than thirty international awards, among which The Artist (2008), The Neighbor (2009), The Distinguished Citizen (2016), My Masterpiece (2018) and Official Competition (2020). His great success was "The Illustrious Citizen" (2016) that was the No. 1 box office Argentine comedy of the year, earning Argentina's submission for the 'Best Foreign Language Film' category of the 89th Academy Awards in 2017 and winning several awards and nominations.

Good execution with clear message, someone did wrong thing impact those victims for sure and bring out social issue in Argentina. We revenge for whom doing wrong things but does it mean our revenge justified ? So many level of thinking after watching this movie.

U turn in a movie
searchanddestroy-123 January 2021
What a strange film that begins like a thriller in the line of PHONE GAME, or BURIED and then looks like DOG DAY AFTERNOON or a social drama. Yes, a very strange feature where you actually have two movies for the price of one. I was surprised, not a bad stuff after all. Not bad at all.

Nobody wins
justahunch-7054916 July 2023
Though someone "may" have learned how to be a better human being. This is a simple story that plays out over 90 minutes and it's kind of amazing that it's interesting for even that short length of time given its simplicity. A young thug breaks into a car and it happens to be a car that its owner has prepared for such an event to occur. Once this young man closes the door, he cannot get out. He clearly has some mechanical abilities and knows a lot about vehicles as he strips this thing to the bare bones, but it was built with the consequences that if you do get in, you're not getting out. Some of this is very illogical including how easy it is to get into something as opposed to the opposite, but that doesn't make it any less tense with an ending that I didn't see coming. Much of what makes this work is the performance by Peter Lanzani as the young hoodlum and it is quite an accomplishment given that he is on the screen near constantly. It's an odd film that you're not quite sure who to root for by the time this approaches its finale. The script also has a bit more on its mind than just what occurs to this young man while trapped in this vehicle.

The entire movie the character is stuck in a car... no other scenes etc. Most boring movie I've ever seen. He spends the entire time trying to get out if a car he's locked in that he tried to steal. Foolish.

A promising movie with a confusing middle and lazy ending
darapjohnson24 September 2022
Man finds himself stuck in a mysterious car after trying to break into it. On the speaker there is a voice that speaks to him throughout.

Just from reading this, you would expect this movie to actually be fun and entertaining... but this could've been executed so much better and had a non-sensical terrible ending which made exactly zero sense to me and apparently from reading the other reviews, other people as well. I regret giving it a watch but at least it was an unique plot... I guess. Step it up, Argentina. If you want to just watch this just because you're very bored, then go ahead and give this a watch, else maybe it's best if you skip this one.

I enjoyed this movie!
alexscg29 January 2021
It has been a while since I truly enjoyed a movie and got inspired to maybe watch it again. What happens when a simple plan goes wrong? A petty criminal tries to rob an expensive car, something he has done with ease many times before - never seen someone break into a car with a tennis ball, so that was new... Then he realizes he is locked inside. The car is bullet and sound proof, and the windows are tainted on the outside. Nobody can see him or hear him. We have seen trap movies before, but I don't recall seeing this. The movie has several very strong messages: 1) One does everything to survive. Everything. Only in such moments, one realizes one's true potential. Human beings can endure a whole lot more than they think, and only when their lives are at stack, do they realize what they can actually do and how hard they will keep on trying to survive. 2) Even in the most dire of situations, there is humanity. The scene when he lets the insect go shows this. 3) Even the worst person is still a person, and deserves a chance to repent for past sins, i.e. deserves a second chance. 4) One wonders who the bad guy is in the story. The main character is certainly no angel. But, one ends up cheering for him anyway. All humans have faults and have done something wrong in their lives.... who are we to judge others? 5) In movies like this, one often wonders: What would I do in a situation like this? Watching these survival, fight-for-your-life movies can actually be educational - it can give one ideas of how to survive the most dire circumstances. One absorbs this in the back of one's mind somewhere... who knows if it may come in handy sometimes. Of course, life is not a movie, but some ideas can be useful. Excellent movie. I am not going to give spoilers how it ends, but it is truly worth watching. It was great, I really enjoyed it!

Best "wild tale" ever!
Malvenido15 April 2019
Even though it might seem slow-paced and only-one-scenario-for-all-the-time at first, this film depicts perfectly how fed up society is with criminals and makes you feel enjoyably eager during all the minutes it lasts!

We, ordinary people, just work for a salary, eat, sleep and then do the same. In other words, we live an honest life every single day and in the end, we are no more than preys for robbers lurking around the city; the outlaws of life.

So, what if, just for once, this would be the way around? What if, it was YOU could get justice by your own hand?

Well, this is what this movie takes care of and you are over-hyped all the time!

I loved its suspense OST.

Awesome acting. The protagonists Peter Lanzani and Daddy Brieva will undoubtedly be rewarded.

Glad I Watched To The End
dmoorejdrf5 August 2021
So, in many ways the premise of this film was pretty unrealistic! Some complain it was slow! Given the storyline I hardly expected it to be action packed. Peter Lanzani did a great job carrying the weight of the movie. I watched through the credits and I'm glad I stayed with. Not an Academy Award worthy film, but was enjoyable to watch.

Wow! What an amazing ride!
bruno_dreamer29 June 2022
At the beginning of the movie I was like "ok, here we go into 90 minutes of the same stuck-in-a-room formula I've been seeing for the past years", but I'm glad wasn't correct about that. The movie brings a ver actual discussion regarding violence, the justice system and the actual function of the police force. The acting was amazing and the developing of the whole conflict and its resolution was very edgy and raw, which I love. All and all, this is an amazing B movie and people should know more about it.

Low budget at its absolute best
schankey10 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was an excellent movie saved it. We'll watch again. It's low budget, a low budget at absolute best. Highly recommand was genuinely surprised at how good this movie was. You are thank you to the writer in the actors. The way the plot is written kind of keep your hang or right down the edge thinking. You might notice happening next and then boom. That gets you and it's not what you expected.

Can't wait to see more from this writer and this genre of Movie. Was dramatic and watching it when everybody actually shows up. They get out of the car. It's just it's amazing.

I watch TV all day everyday. I just have server on my knee so I can't do.
