Virtue signalling under the guise of journalism.
slk-182-97906626 August 2018
While I found the idea interesting, all this series does is serve as a reminder as to how important journalistic impartiality is. In the majority of the cases the journalists let their biases completely warp their stories. The 3 star rating is an average. Episode 6 is the best of the bunch, with John Stanton giving great coverage on a complicated subject, I would have given that episode a 8. By far the worst was Scaachi Koul's coverage in Episode 4 "Men's Rights". She takes a nuanced subject and completely spews her bias all over it. It's frankly journalistic malpractice. I would suggest watching it not because it's a great show, but because it shows how much bias leaks into supposedly unbiased, neutral sources. It definitely makes me want to avoid reading Buzzfeed stories!

Episode 4
johnnylingo17 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode where Scaachi Koul purported to "investigate" the men's rights movement turned out to be nothing more than a documentary about "what Koul thinks about the men's rights community". The episode appeared more focused on her rather than the crying men in the middle of the room. After interviewing interviewees, she would insert a side scene expressing her own opinions about what the interviewee said, rather than ask the interviewees questions based on those perspectives head on. She also appeared blatantly more willing to take the female interviewees' words at face value rather than the male ones.

Taking into consideration the rule of impartiality and journalistic due diligence, I ultimately felt I learned very little about the men's rights community. If you learn nothing from a story, article, or documentary, then the journalist has failed at doing its job. It appears to me that Koul failed to perform her job as a journalist in this episode.

Not really journalism, it's opinion.
karl-salisbury18 November 2018
Its a frustrating experience watching this show as topics are shown either through rose coloured glasses or they cast judgement on topics they don't agree with.

So you walk away not really knowing anything about the topic except for BuzzFeed's opinion.

Some of the presenters just can't help themselves casting judgement on the people they interview and don't really dig deep enough to show the other side of the story.

It's a deeply unsatisfying viewing experience and a missed opportunity to shed light on interesting topics.

Good topics... and Buzzfeed.

This is a perfect example why Buzzfeed is considered to be the most biased, hateful site on the internet.

trendy current affairs show with wide range of random stories
branganm14 September 2018
It's really cool to see a journalistic short-docu series on netflix taking on relevant subjects in 2018. I appreciate seeing subjects I don't know much about and getting more background on the issues.

The format of the show is a bit like taking the viewer 'behind' the story by starting in the office, walking to their interviews, talking to their editor, showing them typing the story we're watching? but it still has tons of production value. Maybe that format is a gimmick - or a bit trendy, but hey, I was entertained. I liked seeing the person who was telling me the story be a part of the story as well.

The production value is great, the graphics are ok - very clear and sold aesthetic, but not my cup of tea for some of the wordy text overlays that cannot possibly be read from my tv watching seat.

Totally biased yet decent production value
kaspergh-4030627 August 2018
What is the purpose of employing and videotaping "journalists" doing interviews if their conclusions are predetermined.

Furthermore, the blatant hypocrisy of Buzzfeed is impairing the value of documentaries messages.

Would not recommend this title to the general public. If you're a crazy SJW though, then I guess it's great.

Trash

Trash like this pisses me off. Journalist are meant to be unbiased, I honestly feel like everyone on this show skipped that day at higher education. Honestly sums up whats wrong with the modern media, especially Buzzfeed.

One Sided View

Normally enjoy these shows, where they talk about important topics and you can form a opinion based on what is shown, every episode is biased! The journalists from BuzzFeed have already made there mind up before doing 'research on the issue' and it's just then putting their points across without taking on others views!

Has everyone forgotten about FREE SPEECH?!
pallie-nardali26 October 2018
I'm guessing the naysayers of this show only have one agenda against the show as a whole: that ONE episode where "Men's Rights". Does anyone else have or would like to give their opinion on any other episodes? Somehow, it'll be twisted into hate, albeit.

This show is meant more to shine the light on issues that for once, aren't being talked about enough. Stop the ignorance, thusly stopping the HATE.

Why the low rating? This show is fantastic!
novadoyle9826 November 2018
Popped this on idly whilst cooking dinner, got immediately hooked! It's a wonderfully engaging and candid short form doco series that takes a peek into some of today's issues & some of those questions you didn't realise you had floating on the periphery! I'm in a total binge hole atm! Highly recommend watching this, it's energetic, informative & quite moving at times, without being overwhelming!

Is this for real?
didem_o10 October 2018
At first I was skeptic, because I am not a big fan of buzzfeed I watched the first 2 episodes and it reminded me of American Vandal... because I genuinely thought it was some sort of parody or satire. Except it is not; this is a real documentary; a bad one, but a real one. I don't understand how buzz feed is a thing and how this show got to be on Netflix. Like are you serious right now?? I could do the exact same thing and no one would watch it; so no one should watch this.

The reporting by extreme angry feminist
mdl-7065213 January 2020
Went in thinking I might learn something... I did... Complete from a feminist bias... The hate Koul has toward men ruined her chances of making a decent doc... Like other said, you can learn how bais journalism uses media to push a one sided agenda...

Good journalism with multiple perspectives
BlackEden17 September 2018
I always appreciate a story when it is presented from multiple perspectives, and this show does it well. I was a bit apprehensive at first, but I'm glad I made the decision to watch it. I'm sure a lot of the MRA's will be voting down automatically; ironically, there's an episode which goes into the importance of men's rights. The episode also reveals how MRA's do not financially or socially support many of the groups out there who are actually helping men in need - perhaps that is where their feelings are hurt ;)

As someone who is usually more involved in the applied sciences (including the news), I realize that it's really important to be aware of the current social issues that affect our society. These are only introductions to each topic, but they're done well and the message is effective. Give it a chance!

Episode 1 The Internet Whisperers
gkemerer26 August 2018
I tuned in, hoping to understand this generation better and what a disappointment. In the plethora of ways to evolve as humans, this is not one of them. This is just stupid and a waste of people's time. Try meditation or one of the many tapes with tranquil ocean sounds, etc. These people actually annoy me, rather than bringing me joy and related emotions.

Left-wing biased? Yeah, so?
tooraredie29 July 2019
I'm not finished yet, but I'm quite enjoying some of the information included in this and the approaches are from a different angle to the right wing ones we're almost always forced to swallow from every source out there.

It's not amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but if you want to see some interesting subjects approached from a standpoint that the various billionaires behind the rest of the media don't like, it's not a bad place to start

People need to get a life
Msbnitski24 August 2018
This is a perfect example of how our society, people today, have withdrawn into itself. No one, at least the younger, more I have to have my phone in my hand people, that refuse to communicate face to face with one another. Sensory deprivation or in this episode, sensory trickery is the showing of how people are left alone with their tech devices and they are deprived of actual one on one relationships. It's no wonder as to why we have so many websites of people trying to find one another in today's world. They do not know how to have an actual relationship where people talk to, eat together, love, touch and relate to each other. Sucks to be young in today's world of not knowing who your neighbors are.
