When I'm not purposely watching something on TV and just want it on for background noise, my default channel selection is usually a Comedy Central. This show happened to be on when I laid down to fall asleep and as I was scrolling through social media on my phone, I glanced over at the screen and started to watch. I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. The several sketches that I caught before the show ended were pretty dang funny and I found myself putting down my phone entirely and paying full attention to the show. To cut this short, I laughed quite a bit while watching this show and will continue to watch when I see that it's on. Hopefully this show finds a solid following and gets to continue because it's pretty effin entertaining

So Smart and Funny!

This show is consistently funny and clever. The writing is fresh and witty. I thought the whole show would be Latino jokes and I wouldn't appreciate it, but I was wrong on both counts. While many of the jokes are rooted in Latino culture, they are all funny and you don't have to be Hispanic to appreciate most of it. There are some jokes that will be even funnier to Latinos (like the passing joke about the aunt trying to use Vick's vaporub to treat her nephews depression after a break up). As a Caucasian I didn't catch this subtle reference until a friend explained that culturally Latinos tend to be big fans of vaporub for the treatment of colds, flus, fever, congestion, etc. It was apparently very funny to a Hispanic audience, but went over my head. The truth is I was probably laughing at the previous rapid-fire joke. Bottom line: you don't have to be Hispanic or even know any Hispanics to like this show and many of the skits have nothing to do with being Hispanic. This is a hilarious show for anyone and everyone. Do yourself a favor and give it a try.
LOVE IT!

Super smart and ridiculously funny! I liken Alternatino to Dave Chappelle's Show which made so much commentary about the time and is still super relevant today. Its so good to see gente talk about toxic masculinity, machismo, racism, the politics of today without being alienating and still being funny! So glad for this show and cannot wait for more episodes!!!
Just.... wow.

As a 40 y/o, un-woke white dude, this show hits all the right spots.
Arturo and supporting cast bring laughs to an insane 2019.
Please, please keep it up.
Paid for by Arturo Castro. I'm kidding.... "Arturo's one of the good ones." 😀 So good.

I know that you can't expect every sketch to hit it out of the ball park, but there's so many ups and downs here. Some sketches seem quite funny where others are so lame that I hit the FF button. I really like Arturo though. He can play many characters very well.
Perfecto

This show is absolutely brilliant! It is original, fresh, funny. It was the bright spot in my week and the show I most looked forward to while it was airing new episodes. I really hope it returns for season 2, though Comedy Central tends to prematurely cancel every show I love, especially ones that star actors of color. I hope, at the very least, Netflix or Hulu pick it up, because this is one of the most topical, well-written, and hilarious programs I've seen come out in a long time.
Not believing it

I was a fan of the first couple of seasons of Broad City, so was curious to see what kind of talent Arturo Castro had to be given his own show; and apparently that is relegated to "being that one dude who was on that chick show". For a sketch comedy this is just NOT funny...as in at all. Arturo is completely deadpan and has the range of a light-switch. The writers of this show don't really seem to be connected with Latino culture, modern living or male-female relationships, since their "observational humor" (and that is being generous) is not only unfunny, but irrelevant. Obviously all these high reviews are coming from people who either participate in the show or are friends of someone who does, because NO ONE in their right mind without ulterior motives could ever give this show anything above a 5. It's just bad.
Refreshing show, great first impression.

I'm always eager for more Latin representation on mainstream TV (the last Latin-themed sketch-comedy I can remember was in 1992 in John Leguizamo's "House of Buggin"). And Arturo was definitely built-up as someone with a wide enough range to accommodate a number of new characters (beyond his "Jaime" from Broad City). But after watching a few episodes of this series, Arturo just comes off as the same doughey, bland persona repeated...with or without an accent. The first episode was about a very familiar topic; stereotypes about Latin men (especially coming from white women). The show simply used the premise/situation of this as funny instead of actually writing in any jokes about it. The irony here is this show is in fact COUNTING on this same ignorant white audience to believe it is somehow funny (hey...it made it onto Comedy Central, right???) because we Latins do not. This appears to be another unfortunate case of affirmative action by Comedy Central, where much like Trevor Noah, they are just hoping the "diversity" makes up for any lack in humor. 3 episodes was enough for me.
Had low expectations

Just caught a couple of episodes on CRAVE. This show is so funny and refreshing!
I love seeing racialized people on tv, and it was WAY overdue!!!!
Thank goddess for CRAVE, NETFLIX, YouTube, etc. Watching tv as a kid, was an exercise in seeing show after show without racialized performers. Sure some shows were good, but many were lame, boring and racist!
Like it or not, the media, and traditional gatekeepers can't lock us out any longer. The quality of shows are top-notch, and the storylines are so much more interesting, and relatable!!!!!
FINALLY tv/media is actually reflecting the diversity of people in the world, and it's about flipping time!!!!

... jokes are missing and there is constant stream of making fun of straw men, libtards made up. He seems like a third generation immigrant who is westernised, lost connection to his culture and is: hey! I'm an npc, just like all of you!. I watched two episodes and could clearly see the potential of only he could go beneath the surface of current political correctness. Something like what "in living colour" did in the 90's. There has to be some genuine (that wasn't it) self deprecation and also mocking of everyone else. This has never not worked but some just can't do it in today's climate. On a positive note, Arturo's acting skills really shine through, even though the writing is mostly terrible.
