Twilight Zone/Black Mirror vibe

This episode was great. I'm loving the David Lynch/Rod Serling side coming out in Glover's writing this season. It's becoming like the first Twilight Zone in that it's surreal, yet also challenges the viewers about societal issues such as race and racism. As another viewer wrote, the black and white helped make it feel even more like an homage to the original Twilight Zone. This series is one of the most original on TV at present. Kudos to all involved. I didn't know about one of the cast dying until reading the reviews. How sad.

Donald, please stop

I mean this in the best way possible. After season 2 of Atlanta ended, I was so hyped to see the group tour Europe. But episode... after episode... after episode... there are these stories that have NOTHING to do with the main cast. "Rich Wigga Poor Wigga" has nothing to do with the story and is another episode without our characters. This is an episode you could skip and not miss anything from the main story.

Now, with that being said- these solo episodes are amazing. TRULY, I enjoy the hell out of them. And if you want to continue to make these as a SIDE PROJECT, like some sort of limited anthology series, PLEASE, by all means, do it. I know for sure that I will watch it. I know for sure many people would watch it. If you want to tell these stories, please stop doing it on Atlanta's time. I beg of you dude. I gave this episode a 9 because it's very well written and overall a great episode. But this isn't Atlanta. You are so frustrating.

Tl;dr another brilliant, awesome, but solo episode that has nothing to do with the Atlanta storyline and doesn't involve any of our main characters.

I would love an entire show of these type of episodes

I have been a been a fan of Atlanta and its story telling, but I definitely think I love these 'Twilight Zone' episodes. It takes race relationships, politics, and mashes it together in this extreme fashion, and tells a story about it. This one definitely had me on the edge of my seat wondering how it all ends. It somehow manages to mix comedy with psycho-type thriller, and make it work in the confines of today.

Let me know where I can sign up for an entire anthology of these type shows. It reminds me of the good elements of Lovecraft Country, Tales from the hood, And Watchmen TV series, with a bit of black mirror type design. Love it.

Incredible episode, loved the ending 😂

This episode of Atlanta was so good and I loved the black and white style..

Donald Glover is a genius and I hope he does more stuff like this in the future!

I loved it but others will probably disagree (critics) but honestly I was glued to the screen watching it.

If you have been enjoying Atlanta, you'll like this episode for sure!

Quick Note

What's most incredible to me about this season is that there have been four episodes that don't follow the main story and involve none of the main characters and yet every episode like that I don't find myself bored or unengaged. That's a real win for this show, especially since I have so little patience for things like this usually.

Excellent Episode

I found it eerie that the episode aired almost a week after Kevin Samuels passed. One thing I love about this show is the casting is always on point. This episode was the most R-rated by far. Filming it in black and white made me feel like I was watching an old Twilight Zone episode.....nice touch. Aaron did his best to suppress his black side until it was no longer convenient to do so.

Notable Quote: "Relax, that's part of being Black; sometimes you don't get the things you know you deserve"

First R.I.P. Kevin Samuels and Donald glover is a fool for this one

The conscious part of me respects it because they're showing how dumb it is to be culturally black and now the reward is chance at college (the key to a better life in america), but the ignorant woke part of me died laughing cause he spent his whole life tryna be white and all for a Thot and some tuition he was mad and did the whitest thing ever and terrorize his school, but I'm surprised he didn't get the scholarship for going to jail... that used to be the quickest way to get clout.

These one offs feel a little... Pretentious.

I dont hate the direction of the episodes, but the messaging and the themes seem to come from a very disconnected place. I'm trying desperately to find a meaning that is greater than what these one off episodes have provided. It just feels super artsy to a point where the messaging is kinda not really landing I believe the way the writers intended it to, but who knows maybe the last episode this season will sorta put a nice little bow on this theme Donald was going for. As of right now it just seems almost offensively out of touch to the point of pretention.

The direction is straight fire though this season. And if the lesson is weird things are happening because life is unpredictable than I can swallow that.

Unpleasant

Nasty little episode. No wonder America is in such a mess. Far more subtle themes of racism are explored in the first two series. Worst of all Atlanta isn't funny any more. Even the normally reliant protagonists seem bored.
