In the United States, the idea of "Slave Reparations" goes all the way back to the post-Civil War era, namely to give each freed man "40 acres and a mule" to tend to farmland.
The two African American employees who remain in the office, Willy and Lester, are the same names as an American ventriloquist act by Willy Tyler.
The following programs were created by the Federal government to alleviate the inequities amongst people of color:
- Affirmative Action - designed to provide a level playing field with access to employment, especially to contractor who do business with the federal government
- Welfare - financial support to persons below the poverty line
- WIC - short for Woman Infants and Children, food vouchers for said group
- Civil Rights Act - bars discrimination in public accommodations
- Voting Rights Act- bans the use of literacy tests and poll taxes, as a bar to voting
