C Rated Movie that could have been great
biggwood-358057 March 2021
The movie was good enough to keep you watching until the end. I think I only kept watching just to see if it would get better. By the time the movie ended I had more questions than answers. Not the worst movie that I have even seen though.

At the very least.....
biggiebaby23 September 2020
It wasn't a comic book movie and it didn't have CGI.....so, could have been worse.

Don't listen to the glowing reviews
rmmil6 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Reviews with very vague summaries and similar writing styles should tell you all you need to know about the super positive ones. It's bad enough to write fake reviews to prop up a bad film, but why make them so preposterously over the top you can't help but see that they are fake?

Anyway, to the film itself, it was definitely low budget, and looked every bit of it. The most lackluster nuclear explosion in cinema history made that obvious to me.

But, low budget doesn't necessarily mean bad movie, but in this case the plot, confined 95% to a single apartment, has no room to breathe, and the acting and writing wasn't believable / good enough to carry the film on its own. You'd never notice how amateur the acting is if that wasn't the only thing you had to pay attention to the entire film.

The "token black guy" stowaway is light years better actor than the leads. Pity that he is there so rarely to bring some life into the film.

The movie feels every bit of its short run time (and then some), and the ending is a slow, painful drag that telegraphed itself in the 1st 5 seconds of the film.

As a final note, maybe releasing a film about a dysfunctional couple trapped in an apartment during an actual worldwide pandemic might've been a bit of bad timing?

Beyond dumb
skanksniffer8 September 2020
Two people in the middle of a divorce struggle to survive a nuclear strike in L.A. it is so dumb, and they make so stupid decisions, that I kept hoping everybody in the movie died. Don't waste your time.

Intriguing, beautiful, & well-made film
rebeccajstrauss30 July 2020
A beautiful, thought-provoking, suspenseful drama that examines what an actual response of a divorcing couple might look like during what could be the end of the world.

I love movies like this, but...
jeccles111 October 2020
This movie is dreadful. The characters are all loathsome and their reactions to what happened are ridiculous. At least the filmmakers didn't spend any money on this. I was rooting for the radiation and was stunned that an hour and 18 minutes could go by so slowly. Watch Patterns, Testament or On the Beach instead.

Twising timely tale of romance
williamgway28 July 2020
Wow, this is a timely movie. Wrapping a romance plot around a nuclear strike. Sounds crazy but I think it works. And works well. Ben Hall does a nice job as Director telling the story. Acting is pretty good. It is worth a watch. And yes, it has some twists so keep watching. I recommend.

I hope the irony isn't that this comes true to some degree
shinnstoneer-196-3647830 December 2022
Knowing this was filmed in 2020 or earlier, we know who was President. This movie plays on the theme that the US would be drawn into many wars and sought to scare us that the Orange man would cause nuclear war. The toxic rhetoric of the President is how it's put, or close to that, before any action begins in the nuclear way of things.

I mention irony because no matter what your position on the sliding scale of politics, one would have to be willingly lying to themselves to not understand how much closer the world is to such a disaster today.

At any rate, I was thinking this might be like the movies from the 80s. I'm terrible at remembering the movie names usually but I think The Day After was the American film with Jason Robards but the British film title escapes me. Both were grim looks at the closest a film could make nuclear war appear as it might be in reality. Something like that I hoped for here...turned out to basically be what General Hospital would've done with a nuclear storyline...except I rather enjoyed some GH back in the 80s.

Surprisingly good doomesday movie
chipsdipsanddorks18 February 2021
I appreciate doomesday, survival, apocalyptic type movies. This is one that centers around a typical California couple living in la-la land when an attack occurs. No food, no gun, no skills. It's only them an a looter in the movie. Very realistic scenario for 99% of California residents on how they would survive. .

Clever premise, solid drama
Smgrte23586017 August 2020
A really clever premise for a film. It's incredibly hard to write a film where only a few characters are stuck in one location, and Night Into Day is overall successful in keeping you engaged. I liked the opening and the montage showing the couple's creation and destruction - it reminded me a bit of that sequence in "Up." I could see an alternate world version of this film where Artemis, a supporting character, was the main character. His journey and arc is compelling and the actor playing him was very sympathetic. Ben Hall did a great job directing - even though the film is mostly shot in a studio apartment, the visuals never get repetitive. As the story and drama are solid, this is certainly worth a watch.

Some real drama here
jimlewisjr31 July 2020
This movie is original and makes everything work. While you can make comparisons to films like Romeo and Juliet and Revolutionary Road it would not do this movie justice. It is truly a story that seems to wrapped around the question "What would you do if it was the end of the world?" Strong performances from both the lead actor and actress. Dark gritty lighting amplifies tension, quiet thoughtful moments and dramatic surprises. Bravo!!!

Tense and moving
zmennona3 August 2020
Released in mid-2020 during the middle of the Corona Virus pandemic, Night Into Day's backdrop of Cold-War era nuclear fears seems suddenly poignant and germane. In an age where tensions are high and families are becoming sick of each other (quarantine blues, anyone?), Night Into Day soberly reminds us that love is, as the wedding vows go, "for better and for worse." Sometimes, it takes the worst to bring out love's best qualities.

The writers have made a plot altogether believable and engaging. The dialogue is honest and raw in a way that is all too rare in other romantic pictures. Of course, the story wouldn't have worked if it weren't for the heartfelt acting by this relatively obscure cast of only three.

Yes, it's a small cast and aside from a few short scenes, nearly the entirety of the movie takes place inside a single building. That said, the limited setting and the choice of using only a few characters made this story more intimate and intense against the deadly situation developing around our heroes.

Part of the movie has background music to set the tone, but I don't believe it added anything of value to the picture and wish it had been omitted.

Glad to have watched this.

Why the bad reviews?
dupontjg-278-4818559 October 2020
This was such a good movie, from start to end! A true love between these two who were never meant to be apart...I don't get the bad reviews, stating high ratings were fake...well not for me, this was great!

Touching and excellent movie ❤
ccarousell11 October 2020
Very realistic in what would happen after a nuclear bomb. Their marriage was also exploding. The nothingness. The destruction. The creation of something that you never knew you didn't want to lose.

Stuck together in hell... is there hope?
directortim201228 July 2020
An intriguing film that finds a unique backdrop to a relationship story. Nuclear devastation! What a great way to make two people with relationship issues dependent on each other. And what ensues is fascinating. This film was suspenseful and yet balanced with great relationship insights. It was really well shot and acted with a great story. I was involved with it from beginning to end, and ultimately that's my top criteria for a film.

A powerful film that expertly balances the suspense of trying to survive in the wake of a nuclear attack with the emotion of confronting broken human relationships. Highly recommend.

Fully invested from start to finish!
claudiah-067954 August 2020
Love the suspense of this movie! I could not take my eyes off the screen. I was constantly guessing what would happen next and on the edge of my seat. Ben Hall did an amazing job directing this movie. I love the storyline. It definitely had me questioning what I would do if I was in that situation. I was completely invested from the start of this movie till the end. I was definitely not ready for the movie to end and wanted to see more. The acting of all of the characters were on point. I was very impressed with this film and would definitely watch again! Highly recommend!

Suspenseful story with a message of redemption
sterling292 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Ben Hall, the director, did an amazing job making this movie to be a tale with a lot of thrill, yet at the end there is a resolution with an unclear ending but redemption. Well done!

Great Date Night Movie
nmcguire-889263 August 2020
I am beyond impressed! The character development is fantastic, and I very quickly became emotionally invested in each of the characters despite (or maybe because of) their flaws. Also, every time I thought I could guess what would happen next I was wrong, love it!

Intense and touching
cauber28 July 2020
It's amazing how apropos this film is in 2020, even though it was filmed before any of this year's events unfolded. It's one of those movies that truly made me emotionally richer and challenges my thoughts about what I would do at a moment's notice of destruction. It'll have you biting your nails in anticipation and appreciating your loved ones more afterwards. Can't recommend highly enough.

Warning: Spoilers
A beautiful but tragic story of love and redemption. Such a timely movie during this time of pandemic. The characters were well developed and the storyline was engaging. I watched it twice, in hope that they survived. I'm not sure that they didn't. Well worth the money and time. I highly recommend it.
