Starts out with a real kicker
sscialli2 November 2018
I'm early on the draw, but these are the episodes where they made the best, picking on each other making fun of everything the other does is what sparks the realism I enjoy out of the show.

a very enjoyable episode full of brotherly moments and other gems
faridamestek3 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
"Mint Condition" proved to be an extremely enjoyable episode with its focus solely on the brothers and it was heartwarming to watch. It felt like a tribute to their fans and was the breather that I needed after the first three episodes of the season. We heard the words that we wanted to hear and saw the exchanges that we wanted to see and addressed those issues that had to be addressed. I thought that both Sam and Dean were at their cutest tonight and there were so many precious brotherly moments to savour: serious, teasing, light-hearted, endearing. Dean teasing Sam about his clean-shaven face and comparing it to dolphin's belly. Sam finding a case that he knew would lure Dean out of his room. Dean trying to find out why Sam hates Halloween and then making it his mission to celebrate it right next year by doing matching outfits and probably having a lot of candy. Dean admitting that he doesn't feel comfortable with the house full of strangers and feeling useless now that dark!Kaia is in the wind with her spear. Sam telling Dean that he did the right thing and that no one blames him for what happened after he said "yes" to Michael, because he did it for Sam, Jack, his family. Dean admitting that he will never be over what happened to him but that he is grateful to Sam for providing him with a win and saying that he is ready to get out of his room and be there for Sam. Dean lying on his tummy with his cute socks on, eating pizza and watching his favourite horror movies that he knows by heart. Dean and Sam wearing their dorky outfits. Dean wearing glasses and swapping mugs with Sam. Sam and Dean teaming up with Sam(antha) and Dirk respectively and solving the case/tackling the monster together. Dean having the time of his life ("I went toe-to-toe with David freaking Yaeger!") and getting to feel like a kid again. Dean hanging out and geeking out with a fellow horror movie fan without having his tastes questioned and quoting his favourite parts without being treated to exasperated eyerolls. Dean calling Sam "Chief" at the end with what I thought was a definite note of serious intent in his voice despite a teasing edge to it. Truly, I want to thank Davy Perez from the bottom of my heart for giving us such a fun yet important episode that provided us with light-hearted and heartfelt brotherly moments and other gems.

Best episode of the season
nathan98262 November 2018
Finally, an enjoyable episode. It's a classic story of the 2 brothers fighting a monster and not angel related.

A fun episode
emmareviews6 November 2018
This is a very nostalgic episode, and I am SO happy that they continue to create episodes like these; a good mix of comedy and horror as well as funny interactions between the brothers. I really enjoyed it. I did feel like I needed a break from all the drama and the Michael-thing going on, even though I find it interesting, so this is a nice and fun "filler" episode. I hope there'll be more like these; perchance also ones including Castiel. That being said, I am intrigued to see what'll happen further ahead of the season with Michael and Dean, etc.

Supernatural nostalgia
shalthepastryqueen14 November 2018
Loved this episode! Though I adore all of the characters they've added since the beginning, it was really nice to have just the brothers in a not as grimm as recent episodes/old school-feel Supernatural environment.

Nothing analytical here... Just enjoyed
inknquill3 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Nothing analytical to express... not trying to offer any "helpful" critics... Just commenting... My personal impression: Appealing, quirky, fun, urban legend feel, Supernatural grass roots episode.

Ok... I aplogize- One analytical comment. Curious: Is that really why Sam hates Halloween? Don't quite believe that.... feels a bit anti-clamatic..... Any impressions fellow watchers? Is this a red herring or should we take it as it is?

But honestly... I enjoy the over arching story lines, but very much miss the urban legend focused episodes. Thanks Supernatural. Well delivered and it made my (day after) Halloween.

Always appreciating the hard work and talent! ::Two Thumbs Up::

Red hood ;)
SlatanGhent3 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is like a homage / parody on the typical halloween movies like Friday the 13th, Halloween , A Nightmare on Elm Street ... ( Jason , Michael Myers , Freddie Krueger ). Specially the comedy in this 'slasher' piece makes this epsiode work.

Jensen Ackles has been tipped to play Red Hood now for a while and in this episode we get a few hints regarding that ;)

I must say this was somewhat refreshing after 3 episodes of Michael the archangel "GOD"

So i give this a 8/10

A retro episode!
mm-393 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Trying be like older episodes with a good old ghost chase. No more the complex Vampire Diaries Supernatural episode of 3 stories going at once in a episode. Mint Condition pokes fun of 80's comic book, collectible crowd. A Revenge of the Nerds feel with Sam and Dean looking the Retro Revenge of the Nerds look. Mint Condition is the usual ghost hunt and a bit low on originality and character development; Maybe, the weak story/character development is a homage to 80's slasher flicks. A throw back in the spirit of the Stranger squeal which create the current 80's horror movie retro look. MInt Condition has a homage bottom third to the Halloween series, which runs on T V during Halloween. Surpernatural has Dean watching a similar format, which turns from T V to real life. There is a few homage shots and a hospital ending similar to the Halloween 2, with over the top humor. Fan talk, stupid characters all add to the campy 80's horror feel. 7 out of 10 not a classic but watchable.

Easter Egg galore
kaleighhess9 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I am in love with this episode. It had a lot of the quips that I missed from the show between the brothers. They were a ton of Easter eggs in the episode. These include a Scooby Doo lunchbox, a red hood costume that Jensen wore, scenes from an episode back in season three and in season one. There were also a ton of actors that have worked on the show before in other episodes dating back to season one. The nostalgia is amazing and we get to find out why Sam hates Halloween. So freaking good.

Done to death
cthulhu1120 September 2019
Ar ar. Going back to ... Tales from the Crypt? Darkside? Whichever 80s show that was where a figure named Ferris came to live.

But what really doesn't make sense is that Dean is messed up over a couple of weeks of being possessed by Michael. Are we forgetting when Sam was possessed by Lucifer, or when Dean spent forty subjective years in Hell torturing souls?

This is it. This is supernatural.
shwetafabm6 August 2020
Nothing better than a good filler, with some comedy, some cute brotherly moments, and a nice atmosphere. Though i really did not like Sam's reason why he hates Halloween, the other times it has been mentioned his reaction seemed deep and not something out of embarrassment.

Average
scottemigh6 August 2020
An average episode of Supernatural is still better than a good episode of most other shows. A lot of fans miss the "monster of the week" format, but I don't. I enjoy the episodes, but I prefer to see the overall story move forward. I found it a tad silly that the writers reverted to the played out PTSD storyline for Dean's brief three-week stent as Michael's meatsuit. The man was tortured in hell for 40 years and has seen more horror than anyone could ever imagine, but somehow the Michael experience was the worst thing ever? Michael didn't even do anything particularly awful, he just experimented on monsters.

One of the better episodes this season
CubsandCulture20 October 2021
I'm surprised that the writers didn't work in a more overt My Bloody Valentine reference in this episode (Ackles was in the remake) but this is a fun quasi-meta take on the 80's slasher flick.

This is a great throwback to the earliest season when the show did one off episodes that provided a different take on common horror tropes and I think that is why I am fond of this episode. Nonetheless Stewart being a striking guest character is also helpful.

This doesn't belong in the best of the best category for the show but it is one of the better episode after the show when into clear decline.

Yes!! This is like the good old days, no parallel universe, no angels, no time travelling, just the two brothers hunting the monster of the week. Like so many other fans I've been following supernatural since season 1 and seen every episode but I feel like we haven't really been given any good storylines since season 6 (I know a lot of people will disagree that S6 was good but I really thought soulless Sam was a treasure!) To be honest, I wish they would just go back to the basics like they did with this episode, I'd rather have a good "monster of the week episode" every week than some half decent story line that I don't really care about. Anyhow, this episode was great and the only thing I was disappointed at was that Sam and Samantha didn't get together, that would have been really cute :)
