- The film is based on the life of Shri S.P. Chauhan (Satpal Chauhan) (Jimmy Shergill), a famous social worker from Karnal, Haryana. We start with SP's marriage to Seema (Yuvika Chaudhary). SP's family runs a respectable business in Delhi. The marriage is off to a colorless start as SP arrives at his wedding with only 10 guests. Jai Singh (Yashpal Sharma) is Satpal's father and Jai Singh's older brother is Tauji (Raju Maan). Satpal doesn't even like photographs to be taken of the ceremony and calls them a waste. He even refuses to take any dowry from his in-laws, which is unheard of.
Suresh (Amit Jairath) is Satpal's best friend and calls him a coconut, hard from outside, soft from the inside. After taking Seema to his village, and ceremonies with his mother, Satpal and Seema leave for Delhi, where Satpal lives with his friend Ashok (Deepakk Morr) and his family (his mother, wife and sister Pinky).
Satpal tells Seema that he has a large social circle, all of whom she may not like. He says that Seema has the right to ask him not to see someone but asks her never to insult anyone in his circle. Satpal is a construction supervisor. After a few years, Satpal and Seema have a daughter and name her Deepti.
After childbirth, Seema is diagnosed with low platelets and is admitted to the hospital. For her treatment, Satpal sells jewelry and even his ancestral property in the village. Eventually, Seema is shifted to AIIMS. Seema is hospitalized for months and Satpal takes care of Deepti. Satpal was taught in childhood that intoxication is a disease and a crime against your own loved ones. From an early age Satpal would get sick from the smell of alcohol and non-veg food. Satpal begs his father to give up alcohol. Jai Singh realizes that Satpal is not like the other kids.
Satpal then takes up the cause of alcoholism in his village, when he sees how homes were being ruined due to the scourge of alcohol. Satpal and his friends make a flying squad and actively discourage men from consuming alcohol.
As he grows up, Satpal gets involved with other social issues. Satpal's ancestors had given their land to the Panchayat generations ago, and now the Government had allocated the land to the laborers. Yet, Jai Singh contends that the registry was never done for the land transfer, and hence the land still belongs to the family. Satpal stands with the laborers and goes against his own family to fight the matter in court. Jai Singh is split between the society, and his own family. He throws Satpal out of the house, and later regrets his actions. But Satpal is a man of principles and refuses to return. The laborers ask Satpal to stand for the Panchayat elections as now the final decision on the land matter stands with the Panchayat. Suresh and Sarita (Shrawya Shreya Rajput) stand with Satpal at every step. The political class of Haryana is shaken by Satpal's raid rise as a youth leader with immense pull among the college going students. Local politician Athar Singh (Vijay Kumar Dogra) plots Satpal's downfall. Athar Singh bribes the voters of the village with cash and alcohol to skew the elections in his favor. As a result of booth capturing, Satpal looses the election. After this loss, Satpal shifts to Delhi to earn money. Sarita had a crush on Satpal, but Satpal decides to move from his life in the village.
In Delhi, Satpal lives with Ashok and his family. He starts taking tuition to pay for his stay. Through Ashok, Satpal gets the job of a supervisor at a construction site.
Back in the present, the doctor tells Satpal that Seema has to undergo spleen surgery and the survival rate is only 3%. Seema survives the operation. Satpal decides to step away from construction work as the field has now become very corrupted due to the entry of mafia and politicians. But this is when he is threatened by mafia don Bhai-Ji to stay away from his area. Satpal had cover of his politician friend Rajesh and Bhai-Ji gets Rajesh assassinated. The police refuse to register a complaint against Bhai-Ji saying that Satpal has no evidence. Satpal brings back his college friends and their political networks to stage a protest in front of the police station. As a result of public pressure, the police are forced to arrest Bhai-Ji.
Satpal is praised for completing his civil projects before time and on budget. The Chief Engineer asks Satpal to take on bigger projects from then on. After a few years, Satpal is now a rich man. Satpal goes back to his village when he gets news that his mother is now sick. He brings her to the city for treatment. The doctor informs Satpal that his mother had stage 4 cancer and has weeks to live. Eventually, she passes away. Satpal returns to the village and construct a school in the memory of his mother.
