After the star studded but off brand reboot, it's great to have our actual chucky back with the creators and some original cast back too. It's weird how the show goes from cheesy to serious but chucky as an anti hero is a great take. The humor was always the most important part to me and I'm glad it's still intact. Also nick's touch can be seen in it too but not so heavy handedly.

Old story, new perspective

Everyone who loved the first movies so much, lynched this production aimlessly.
This is ridiculous, because this show is better than most of the 'chucky' movies.
Moreover, Zachary Arthur has done a very good acting.
Old story, new perspective.
An above average production.

The only scary thing here is bad acting.

The cast from the movies deliver. The other do not.

Apart from the awkward and strange acting of the new cast members, this holds up well to the movies. The teens are the worst part of this show. Cringeworthy performances all around. I took it off 2 stars for their terrible acting. The rest of the gang from the movies deliver everything I've come to expect from the Child's Play movies. Without them this wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
The real Chucky is slicing his way back to the screen...

This 2021 series "Chucky" is such a blast. Especially if you enjoyed the original "Child's Play" movies.
I have to admit that when I stumbled upon this series, then I hadn't actually heard about it being made, so it was a surprise to find this. Needless to say that I had to watch it, as I have seen all of the movies in the franchise and always found the movies enjoyable.
And "Chucky" is a blast. I have to say that. Especially since it is so much in tune with the spirit and the essence of the original movies, and let's just completely forget about that abysmal 2019 remake. And it was such a thrill to have Brad Dourif return to do the voice of Chucky, as there simply can be none other to voice that psychotic murdering doll. And the series also have the likes of Jennifer Tilly, Devon Sawa and Lexa Doig on the cast list, so that was quite nice.
The storyline told in the 2021 series is good, as it is a mixture of the old classics and spruced up with up-to-date contents, for better or worse. I have to say that it is sort of wearing thin that everything that is churned out from Hollywood now needs to please that whole Woke movement. Yeah, even in here, you have teen gay romance. I have nothing against gay, but it just becomes sort of a drag that is has to be forced in to be as politically correct as possible.
Visually then "Chucky" is a joy to watch, as it is every bit as bloody and gruesome as the movies, and has all the wonderful witty banter from Chucky.
I am rating this 2021 series a well-deserved seven out of ten stars.

I based my 9/10 rating on the pilot episode only. There are a lot of jump scares but I actually love those. The show does a great job of keeping you in suspense. It was casted well. The series is better than the last 4 remakes of the chucky movies. Don't get me started on the last chucky movie that didn't even look or sound like him. The series started just in time for halloween so I'm digging those fall halloween vibes. I'm liking where they are taking this series. I was worried when i first heard about a chucky tv series, But now that I have seen the first one, I'm confident that this series will last. The writers, producers, special effects team, and actors are all great. Hopefully the rest of the season Don't let us down.
Very Interesting

The flow is great, original cast is superb the others are alright, awesome horror, and pretty good directing. I'm so glad there was a deal on peacock it's a pretty good service, I do wish Chucky was available on other stuff. Brad Dourif is a legend great of him still willing to do the voice he's fairly old now crazy to think he was in One flew over the cuckoo's nest in 1973. Awesome that Devon Sawa is doing well too I loved him Final Desination and Idle Hands. I understand any hate the acting is a bit meh otherwise I love the series, I'm sure it gets better I love how numerous episodes are higher rated than the overall series; great for fans!
Funny, stylish, and a great continuation

"Chucky" is a very surprisingly enjoyable show. It's got all the things you'd want to see in a Child's Play show. With fun gore, quick pacing, and some surprisingly good messages. This show is heading in the right direction
Starting off with the good. The acting is really good. Everyone in the show plays the role either really well, or so over the top that it works for this source material. Of course Brad Dourif is great once again as Chucky. The show also has great pacing. The first episode moved very quickly. I also liked how funny the show was. There were quite a few jokes that made me laugh. And finally this show really incorporates great messages about, bullying, and LGBT. I think that's a very great thing to talk about, and it added some nuance to the characters
I have a few issues with the show. The style of the show while great, at times can get a little too much. And it kinda feels like they're struggling to balance that comedy, and horror. And finally I don't think it's necessary to retell Chucky's backstory.
But still aside from that "Chucky" is a really fun, and promising series with good acting, fast pacing, some great callbacks, and some really great messages that help the show feel more nuanced.

Not enough chucky

Too much back story about characters you don't care about. Even watching this trash at x2 or x3 speed isn't fast enough to cut through the tripe you must endure just to see your 2 minutes of Chucky per episode. Massive let down.
Loving it already and hooked!

Brilliant idea
moviezfanatic12 November 2023
I can't believe we have a Chucky series. I'm thrilled to see this stellar new take on such an iconic character. Chucky's new series brilliantly preserves the essence of the original films, embracing their unique charm. In an era where sensitivity often overshadows creativity, I applaud the show for fearlessly delivering the edgy content fans crave. Chucky's humor and expressions remain highlights, and delving into his origin adds depth. The cast's stellar performances contribute to the series' success, making it a must-watch for both longtime fans and newcomers. The show really gets vulgar, graphic, with a humoristic tone and i am all here for it.
Lame

Terrible acting except for Chucky....the actors are awful and way too over the top. The main character looks awkward and is uncomfortable to watch. His scenes and acting are unrealistic.....for a kid who is hiding a killer doll you'd think he'd be a little more discreet when practicing his stabbing methods. He's not the only bad actor as the show is filled with them. The blonde girl is an easy to hate character between her personality and terrible acting i'm not sure which is worse.
I'll still watch the series because of Chucky and the only screams are over the acting and terrible writing.

The Lakeshore Stranglers story is far from over
pughspencer22 September 2022
Compared to many other horror movie icons Chucky has got it pretty well when it comes to his movies. Sure some moments in them have went a little too far on the absurd side but it only adds to the sick charm of this homicidal dolls story. This TV show furthermore tells us his story is far from over. Season 1 was not only great at introducing new faces but also bringing back familiar ones. Jake, Devon, and Lexy make a good trio you root for all the way thru as chaos unfolds every episode. They all go through brutal losses that brings them down but also tightens their survival instincts to hunt down the killer toy. Chucky himself hasn't changed he's still the relentless maniacal evil spawn in a doll we all recognize him as & Brad Dourif yet again lens his iconic voice. Not to mention his design is the best he's looked in quite awhile. One benefit about it also being a show is we get to see flashbacks on how a young Charles Lee Ray started his thirst for blood. Luckily they don't try to diminish him with some generic sympathetic tragedy that led him to the wrong path. Instead we learn hes always been a soulless monster ruining lives. Everyone else gives excellent performances as well, especially Fiona Dourif who I did not expect to see so much range in. Despite it being a show on cable TV it never holds back on the bloody fatalities and f-bombs we've grown accustomed to in the series. As well as plenty of dark humor throughout and you'll find yourself laughing that how just insane everything gets. Every past Chucky film is referenced one way or another and it feels like a neat celebration of everything that's happened so far in the series. A fantastic season and I'm looking forward to what season 2 brings next.
Just awful

Slasher series done right
Nightmarelogic4 November 2021
One of the hardest tv series to write is actually a horror/slasher series. Writing 2 hours worth of murder and mayhem is easy writing 10 is alot harder and in television there needs to be more of a story involved. So you have to mix and match the two. Child's Play has always been an odd mix of story and mayhem anyway so it was a perfect movie franchise to turn into a tv series.
Having the Chucky Series focus on bullying and the effects it has on Jake, a troubled young gay boy's psyche was an interesting idea. By also including the people around him as actual people including his main tormenters Lexy the female bully who goes too far in her mistreatment of Jake and Jake's popular cousin who has troubles of his own was a good idea. And it also includes a possible romance between Jake and Devon. It is a young romance because it involves 14 year olds so don't expect too much other then flirting and hand holding and possibly in the future a chaste kiss. However all the teenage characters are well thought out. The adults is a different story. Maybe they will be better drawn in the future but this is still a horror series that should be watched by Fans of the Child's Play series,

Chucky is a fine sharp leading and bleeding cut man!

If you were a fan of the "Child's Play" movie franchise then this new extension and carry on of the character and story called "Chucky" is a must see TV watch! As the "Syfy/USA" series is fun, and sharp with fright blood gore fear in a clever and satiric like way. Set in a nice ideal like town of the well to do suburbs with likeable folks, Jake(Zach Wheeler) who's a bullied gay teen doesn't have much or many friends to help, however when he buys a vintage good guy doll at a yard sale things change a scary bond is formed! As this little toy carries an evil past spirit wise, in which involves an old serial killer, still "Chucky" has plans to help out Jake. The game plan involves making trouble and a blood like hell life for those who have picked and bullied Jake in life and at school! It's a mix of characters and modern life involving relationships and really a great origin story. The episode are fun and scary with "Chucky" being an evil sadistic friend till the end!
Garbage. Chucky was more realistic in 1988
Jonathanraven19807 November 2021
So I tried watching this. I tried... and tried. And tried. This was just... so bad... I couldn't bear it. I loved Child's Play, but this is just pure garbage. No other way to put it. My apologies to the actors/actresses but this is just terrible. Chucky somehow looks even more fake, in 2021 than in 1988... how is that even possible? I won't get into other details because this show already wasted enough of my time. Avoid at all costs.
Not impressed.

The only redeeming feature of this is Brad Dourif returning as the voice of Chucky, although he doesn't feature enough at all. There is too much focus on characters you don't care about, and some questionable acting.
The woke element is just too much, and it's done for this what it did for the I Know What You Did Last Summer series - turn people off. I made it to the end of episode 2 by fast forwarding but can't take any more.
A disappointing 3 from me.

Before Annabelle of the "Conjuring" movie series, there was another terrifying doll. After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begins to expose the town's hypocrisies and secrets.
Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky's past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll's untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.
Overall, this is a fun and entertaining show that breathes new life into the character of Chucky whilst staying true to the tone of the original movie. A great young cast. Surprisingly excellent cinematography and a playful soundtrack make this a fun watch, especially for the Halloween season.

Bizarrely Bad

Laughable story & direction, everything that happens makes no sense or is just stupid & you end up thinking 'how did these people get hired' it's embarrassing.
There's a scene in ep 1 that's so bad, a show in the schools theatre, that I thought it had to be a dream, but it isn't. I honestly have no idea how this got on TV; execs used to be douches, but at least they made great TV, this is all just virtue signalling nonsense.

Mediocre show with a horrible lead
JohnDeLaughs20 January 2022
Chucky is as good as he can be in a mediocre show like this and he doesn't disappoint but the rest of the cast-except Jennifer Tilly and the kid who plays Devon- is horrible. Especially the lead. He only has one facial expression and zero acting skills. When he is angry, he looks disgusted. When he gets stressed out, he looks disgusted. When he is confused, he looks disgusted. When he is happy, he looks disgusted... He and 99% of the characters are so irritating that you can't wait for Chucky to kill them all in an instant.
Ridiculous

Total garbage - another FF classic
jritty28 November 2021
I feel sad that people today have JUNK like this to watch... I thought we were going to get a nice old school thriller like the original..but this, this is pure crap. Not one likable character - everyone is a horrible person, especially these kids. Nothing to like about this show, just like most of the 'entertainment' we get today. Not one good thing to say about except for the doll effects. Poor Brad Dourif. The man had pure acting talent (see exorcist III) and this is what he has to do for a buck. Child's Play as a franchise was in the toilet with Cult of Chucky but this series is the big flush. Bad acting and writing and directing...it's a laughable mess that can only be watched on fast forward. Sad...
