Excellent

I've played the Cube Escape series and loved the film! I need a full length film though :-). The actors were great! The only thing about a series like this is eventually it will have to end and questions will have to be answered because people will get tired of a never ending mystery where everything always remains unsolved. I want to see more!

Color me impressed

I felt this easily needed another hour of content - but I suppose that speaks volume to the quality. For a game developer to create a short film so true to the feelings and atmosphere of a game series is extremely impressive!

True to the feeling of the series
tamzinvaraday20 September 2018
The Cube Escape series has become a favorite of mine. While the story is a bit of a task to follow, it serves as thought provoking and unique, and Paradox is no exception. The casting choices are fantastic, the atmosphere is on point, and there were several moments I felt genuine anxiety alongside the protagonist. Gameplay elements are translated smoothly into film format, and overall the direction of this piece makes for an immersive experience. Fantastic.

Slight decrease in quality towards the end, but all in all still a good watch

Warning: Spoilers
Here we have "Paradox: A Rusty Lake Film", a Czech/Dutch co-production from 2018, short film that runs for 18.5 minutes and first question for me was: What is Rusty Lake? It's none of the cast and crew it seems, none of the production companies, but the Youtube channel this is named after and I see apparently it is a name linked to the gaming industry, escape simulator perhaps? I am not sure. But lets talk about the film and not the game. There is little dialogue here, so you can enjoy this one, even if you don't speak English. Yep that is the first language here despite the production countries and writer and director Sean von Leijenhorst's roots. It is almost in its entirety a one-person movie as we have a detective trapped inside a room by one of his foes and he needs to find a way out. When he finally does, he perhaps would have chosen to stay where he was initially. Or maybe not, he seems pretty focused on finding ways out, but in the end, with the very last shot, we see he gets right back where he was initially. I enjoyed the watch here. I think I read this is more of a fan-based film with some crodfunding and for that SvL's most recent filmmaking effort is pretty impressive I guess. It is nicely atmospheric. I personally would have ended the film maybe after the dark forest scene (also getting back into the original prison) and done without the beach scene at the end because to me it feels as if the movie tried to be too much for under 20 minutes eventually, but that is just subjective. Still if they ever decide to make a full feature movie based on this, I'll probably watch. It was well done, also the lead actor is really fine with what he does with his physical acting here and makes the character somewhat memorable, which is pretty impressive as this is not an actors movie at all. So yeah, I think you should watch it. It's a bit rare we get a film based on a video game or more than one that does not deal with wild shooting or fighting at least and instead serves those with an interest in the psychological thriller genre, even if like I said earlier, there is just too much that needs some kind of explanation and the film tries to be a bit too smart for its own good. That's why I also believe the imdb rating is a bit high here. Nonetheless, the simple idea and plot early on is attractive enough for me to say say to you: Go check this one out. I'd love to see a sequel and looking at how viral this became in just a few weeks on Youtube I would not be surprised if it actually happens.

Love it to the bone

I adore this series game so so much, I admire their massive story, it crosses the past, the present, the future and the death, the living, and the human, the animals. And their film certainly not let me down at all. I have a small notebook just to solve all the puzzle in the game and it looks mysterious for those who dont know about this game

GORGEOUS
cabbit-0808825 September 2018
If you are fans of Rusty Lake & Cube Escape series, then you'll defenitely love this artwork. The film expressed mysterious and ambiguous mood in games very well. I could see how much production crew tried to make better scenes in the film. I want more Rusty Lake films, and I really want to support them as much as possible.

Hopeful for More

What a brilliant little film. Perfectly captures the disorientation and sense of unease the Cube Escape and Rusty Lake games carry with them. I dearly hope this is just the beginning of more to come.

A true masterpiece by our beloved Rusty Lake and the LAB. Paradox - A Rusty Lake Film can be enjoyed by everyone, those who have been, and continue to be, dedicated Rusty Lake fans, those who have played through a few games here and there, and those who have never heard of it. It is simply stunning, very beautiful.

A Rusty Lake fan's dream come true!
andrichanng4 October 2018
Not only did this short movie bring to life our beloved characters from the Rusty Lake game universe i.e. Dalw Vandermeer, Laura Vanderboom and Mr. Crow, it materialized Rusty lake into reality in the most elegant and eerie way I didn't know was possible. The music, cinematography, scene locations, props and actors were all of such high quality/talent that watching the movie made me feel as if I had finally experienced the game in real life. This was such a well thought out script and the effort and love put into it was very apparent. Would love to see more Rusty Lake movies in the future!

So atmospheric !

I love the games so much ! And this film is freaking awesome! So spooky and atmospheric . Great job guys and the actor who played detective Dale is very good . It's so strange (in a fantastic way) to see the events of a game in a movie ,especially the hotel on the beach. You should make more short films based on your games .💗

Amazing

At first I figured "Oh a Rusty Lake movie? How is this going to be pulled off, can't just make magic and weirdness in a realistic image and actually expect any quality screen play.."

I was 100% wrong.

This is amazing. The camera angles and style it's directed in, legitimately feels like an actual professionally made film. I am honestly proud and already expecting (and will pay) a full film. This would be a gem if completed for the horror/thriller film community, not only for the fans of Rusty Lake, but the level of intelligence this vastly large story has to unfold. I am excited to see more and will be keeping an eye on its productivity.

Absolute fantastic work with this ladies and gents! Well done!

Absolutely incredible!!
fallingstars-280375 October 2018
This macabre game series is one of my favorites, so when I heard it was getting a movie, I was so excited, and this did not at all disappoint! The horror was absolutely thrilling; the atmosphere was entirely accurate; the acting, music and overall composition were a delight! By the end of it, I did not have a clue as to what was going on, and I needed more, but that's entirely how it needed to be! Honestly, this deserves an Oscar!

The most delightful surprise
kherrick-7782212 October 2018
I can't begin to describe how the Rusty Lake games make me feel. They're the perfect collision of some of my favorite things: Twin-Peaks-esque creepiness, point-and-click puzzles á la the Nancy Drew games of my childhood, complex storytelling, and cute birds (Harvey!!!). Every time a new game comes out, I'm thinking about the puzzles all day long and hearing the creepy backward voices in my head. I love being immersed in this universe. I'm not into social media really, so I had no idea about the Kickstarter campaign behind this movie. It was the most incredible surprise to find waiting for me and it perfectly captures the Rusty Lake essence. It's everything I love about the games and slots perfectly into the universe without being too contrived. Perfect casting, uncanny recreation of the familiar environments, and delicious interweaving with the Paradox game. Outstanding work, everyone! Sorry I missed the opportunity to contribute to this project, but count me in for the next one!

I love all the connections between the film and the game, absolutely brilliant! The cinematography is captivating, the sound design is beautiful, and the acting is amazing. Perfectly suspenseful, thrilling, artistic, and exciting. I would recommend, even if you haven't played the games (although you should!)

I've been a longtime fan of the game series for both it's eccentricities and accessibility. Now this movie, as well as a huge new game?? Amazing. The quality blew me away- the acting was fantastic, the voice work believable and honestly gave me goosebumps. Everyone should get a chance to watch this. So good, and it's free on YouTube!

Knocked it out of the ball park.

Unbelievable quality and attention to detail, with wall to wall Easter eggs and callbacks. As a Rusty Lake fan I had toweringly high expectations which were all exceeded. Brilliant acting, sets and lighting, all in tune with the in-game world. In fact the game to film continuity is so good it's creepy XD Absolutely flawless.

Wait...I didn't tell you what the film was about. There's a detective but his memories belong to the lake now, near the hotel, which has the crow, or was it the owl? But not the parrot. Harvey appears of course, since the past is not dead, it's...well you know. I can't have been the only one yelling for Dale not to go near the mirror, but I counted his ears so Ok. Best cameo was definitely the matches, the whole thing would have been unrecognizable without them.

For those of you for whom that made no sense- sorry. Even after you've seen all the games, it doesn't actually get much clearer than that. And that is the brilliance of it.
