Cute and Funny
moondork15 June 2020
The Undateables is a cute and funny drama that is heartwarming to watch. Main male actor Namgung Min plays Hoon-Nam who is a highly misunderstood man that as the show progresses you see a much softer side of him. Main female lead Jung-Eum is played by actress Hwang Jung-Eum that I have to admit in the beginning her overacting was a little too much but it does get better as you watch. In Korea the show had low ratings and I can see if people stopped at episode 3 but it did improve and had great insight into people and relationships. I loved the setting of toy museum since it was different. Cute show and I would have no problem watching again.

My beloved male and female lead
madbird-612438 August 2020
I must confess that the plot is not very impressive, lacking ups and downs. At times you will be a bit bored.

Well but I am simply addicted to the lead couple. Female lead is my favourite since kmhm. Male lead is one of my beloved oppa since Dr prisoner.

Male lead , however, disappoint me in the kissing scene. He is not a good kisser surprisingly. He performs better in genre other than love story.

Female lead is very pretty in this drama. Her costume is more beautiful than in her previous drama. Her blue dress in the kissing scene is very attractive. She says she will give the male lead the body. And she raises the topic of kissing. With Jisung, she is a shy girl. But in the present drama, she is brave to secure her beloved one.

But I am quite disappointed in seeing female lead in another of her new drama. Her face feature looks different from the past. Hardly can I recognize her. Apparently she must have undergone unsuccessful plastic surgery. But she look fine in the present one.

Hope for the best with female lead. Awaiting new dama from male lead

Korean actress does something shocking on screen !
lyntonadam9 March 2019
Indeed, & I'll get to that shortly. Thought I have to balance the negative review before mine cos I really enjoyed this show ( which, by the way, is called "The Undateables" on VIKI ). First though, let's review the components of the K drama formula which you'll soon encounter once you become a regular : TWO GUYS pursuing ONE GIRL, though guy2 is never totally viable. LEAD MALE is rich & LEAD GIRL is not, with girl introducing guy to the simple pleasures he missed out on. FIRST MEETING OF MAIN COUPLE is angry/awkward. LOTS OF "ACCIDENTAL" occasions early on for main duo to touch/hug ( Aaargh ! VERY ANNOYING, by the way ! ). AT LEAST ONE PARENT of main duo is dead. AT LEAST 1 MAJOR CRISIS for main duo before inevitable happy ending. Yep, sounds like a recipe for boredom but it isn't if you care about the characters. So, there are some exceptions, though this show sticks to most of the template. Formula aside, it's the other stuff that makes a good K Drama, like the story/script, emotional connection & quality of the cast. Like a few other under-rated K dramas, this one delivers in all areas. Central couple are vital, obviously, & Hwang Jung Eum as the girl & Nam Goong Min as the guy have great chemistry in my opinion. She has some detractors on the VIKI forums which seriously baffles me. The support cast are also good, with Coach Yang a deserved fan fave. The story ? The motley crew of the VIKI title ( as the main duo team up to get them dates ) are consistently entertaining, with the last third of the show being especially effective in that regard. And that "shock"I referred to in my heading, well, I love being surprised and a quarter of the way in, HJE does something which was exciting and brave, considering the general prudish conservatism of K Drama. Bravo to the writers & to her ! Oops, forgot to mention the top production values, a great music score, copious humour & yes, I cried a few times. Hey, no K Drama spares the H20 !

Well acted and entertaining

Warning: Spoilers
9/10 is my rating. This is a 2018 South Korean romantic comedy that has 32, 30 minute, episodes

Alternate title "The Undateables" which I think is more fitting.

Yoo Jung-eum (Hwang Jung-eum) was a diving athlete until events in her life caused her to give up the sport. Her friend hires her into her match making agency although Jung-eum was a much better athlete than she is a matchmaker. Kang Hoon-nam (Namkoong Min) seems to be everywhere Jung-eum is and they have a series of encounters. Hoon-nam ghost writes a relationship column and is so successful at helping people groom themselves to be a love interest that he turns his cousin into a player who causes havoc in Jung-eum's company to the point that she is blamed for her client's bad behavior and given one last chance to redeem herself by getting dates for a cadre of clients who are deemed undateable. Not having the skill to turn the folks around herself she seeks out the person ghost writing the advice articles that have proven successful. Jung-eum is surprised to siscover the relationship guru is none other than Hoon-nam a man who, based on their earlier not so positive encounters made her agree to never appear in front of him again. Can she convince him to help her? If he helps can they get dates for the Undateables and even find love themselves?

Jung-eum's job as a dating consultant or matchmaker is very interesting. I like how sweet yet feisty she is. This is another one where I wish I could split the female lead in two because I liked the second guy a lot. I like all of their friends and the side stories are really cute too. It is funny that the lead guy is supposedly a dating expert yet he has such a hard time figuring out his own relationships. The leads acted this very well as you can see them as a couple and their personalities, in terms of their characters, were very complementary. There was just enough intrigue with a mysterious past that it made you want to discover the whole story. I was surprised I liked this as much as I did. It is very predictable and not very complex but so well acted and overall still entertaining that it is one I would highly recommend.

Not good enough
PennyReviews30 July 2018
The undatables is an ordinary drama. It follows the cliche story of enemies falling in love, best friend falling for the girl, family objections, mommy issues and a mystery about the character's childhood. I do wish I liked this drama, but it just tried to hard to make everything cute and romantic. Half way through it didn't have anything else to say or to add and it was just a boring story that I forced myself to finish, hoping that maybe the ending will surprise me, but it didn't. It is a shame, because there were many famous and popular actors in this one and the chemistry between the two leads was strong.

HUMAN JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY, WHERE LOVE WINS
cageronimolaw3 March 2024
1 For future watchers. Note that it's 32, 30-minute episodes. So equivalent to 16 one hour episodes. I'm saying this because I don't want viewers to not watch thinking it's too long.

#2 this is only the 2nd time I've seen Namkoong Min in a drama & only 1st romantic one. He is so handsome, charming, his smile lights up the room. Magic!! He's now one of my most favorite actors.

#3 This drama has everything from tragedies to love. The first few episodes when Kwang Jung Eum was frenetic, scatterbrained, etc., were hard, but well worth later with this unfolding of love, regret, stupid mistakes, wisdom, friendship, survival, overcoming obstacles, making new connections, romance, reconnecting with yourself and becoming a person who loves themself and is able to love another.

My most memorable moments involved the 2 leads. Once the drama settled in, the obvious respect, care, love between them blossomed, had some ups and downs, challenges, but adults (and they were adults) make it work.

An incredibly touching, romantic, at times very funny, sometimes sad, adult, compelling show.

Please watch this drama. It's like a very fine wine, an incredible work of art, it will linger, make you smile for a while after.
