Les Arcs Film Festival, the European equivalent to the Sundance Film Festival, has unveiled the list of projects which will be presented during its competitive Work-in-Progress showcase.
Curated by Tribeca and Les Arcs’ artistic director Frederic Boyer and Lison Hervé, the selection will present a broad range of movies in post-production seeking a sales agent, festival slots and international distribution.
This year’s roster includes several titles from Scandinavia, including “Acts of Love,” a Danish-language film directed by Jeppe Rønde, and “The Swedish Torpedo,” a period epic directed by Frida Kempff (“Winter Buoy”). Josefin Neldén stars in “The Swedish Torpedo” as Sally Bauer, the first Scandinavian to swim across the English Channel in 1939. The film is produced by Momento Film, with Amrion, Inland Film Company, and Velvet Films.

Despite the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, sales agents and distributors are convening in Santa Monica this week in the hopes of reconnecting with buyers and kicking off deal discussions at the American Film Market.
After an underwhelming Toronto Film Festival, which saw little deal activity, there’s hope that a few of the starry packages being shopped at AFM will get picked up. But given the climate in Hollywood, many projects won’t officially hit the market until February at the European Film Market in Berlin. The marketplace is not only strained by the strike but the shifting appetites and belt-tightening at the major studios and streamers. At the same time, the return of buyers from China to AFM after several years away is seen as a positive sign.

Emily Carey of House of the Dragon, Claes Bang of the recent Dracula mini-series, and Suki Waterhouse of Daisy Jones & the Six have signed on to star in the psychological thriller Walk With Me, which will pit them against “a nightmarish creature from Celtic mythology”. According to Deadline, this is a European co-production with a European cast and will be filming in Europe sometime in early 2024 – so it’s not being made under a SAG contract and will be able to go into production if the Screen Actors Guild strike is still going on by then.
Jonny Blair (River City) will be directing Walk With Me from a screenplay by Benjamin Farry (Cosmos Within Us). Here’s the synopsis: Teenager Ellie (Carey) struggles to connect with her emotionally distant father Simon (Bang) who has raised her alone since her mother died in childbirth. When he announces their move to a remote rural cottage,...

On working with Carl Cox and Paul Woolford, Moby said, “‘one of my favorite things is to send multitracks of a song to legendary remixers like Paul and Carl, and then happily listen to the magic they’ve created’.”
Paul Woolford said, “I’ve been playing Moby’s records since the start in 1991 so when he asked me to rework In My Heart with Gregory Porter I immediately said yes. Furthermore, I wanted to contribute a Special Request version of the song that almost floats as a beatless ambient version, so there’s...

Monolit Film, the Danish banner behind “The Great Silence,” is developing “Wannabe,” the feature debut of “Bad Bitch” director Patricia Bbaale Bandak, and “After the Sun,” a dystopia based on a short story featured in The New Yorker in 2021.
“Wannabe,” which was pitched at the Nordic Film Market in Goteborg as part of the Discovery program, is inspired by Bbaale Bandak’s own life. The film follows Patricia, a 13 year-old Ugandan refugee who moves into an underprivileged town of Denmark. Over the course of a summer in 1995, Patricia, who is eager to fit in, joins a group of girls to participate in a look-alike music contest launched by a popular kids TV show.
“The story is told through the eyes of this 13 year-old girl and tells her coming of age but it also talks about the brutality of assimilation and the complexity of Danish society,” said Victor Rocha da Cunha,...

The synopsis reads: “A Theft of Lies starts with James Tobin, a British art dealer of East Asian heritage. Tobin is known for his knack of finding lost works from renowned artists and selling them to the wealthy elite who visit his Kensington art gallery.
