Enjoyable Mystery
px-826891 August 2020
A reworking of the classic mystery theme of an isolated trapped group of multinational people, most of whom have a shared past, begin to be killed off one by one. Add the 6 month polar night, the deadly temperatures, polar T-3 syndrome ( a real behavioral affliction of polar explorers), interpersonal issues, loss of communication, planetary ecological implications, and attempting to reconstruct events from the traumatized memory(?) of a person who might be a victim or a perpetrator makes for an interesting mystery. Yes there are physical events that require a suspension of disbelief and some questionable decisions made by various people. You might at first think that it is just another formulaic plot that you have seen before but it is well worth watching to the satisfying conclusion.

A series that actually ends... wow!
omendata15 December 2020
I have to disagree with all the low score "i figured it out" ever so clever crew; when I watch a movie I switch off and let it flow over me and I didnt figure out the ending at all and found it a pleasant surprise or "twist in the tale" as they used to say in the days of Tales Of The Unexpected and it was well pulled off in my opinion for what it is worth. As long as you can still watch a movie for the enjoyment and are not the type who sits and picks all the flaws with the plot, trying desperately to figure out the ending to prove how smart you are and picking issues with props I am sure you will enjoy this.

It is not too long and drawn out unlike the recent Hugh Grant fiasco murder mystery "The Undoing". This is well paced and fits the 6 episodes perfectly although the acting is not stellar, it does well with the location and story so I am giving it a Good 7/10 stars with an extra star for the ending which i found most satisfying.

What else do you need?!

When the communication to the outside world stops, Everything is suddenly falling apart for a small group of scientists of an International base station in Antarctica. There are six episodes each creating enough suspense and thrill to make you binge-watch the show. The BGM and Screenplay are the highlights of the show. It's one of the shows in which you keep guessing 'what will happen next?'. Though the last episode seems rushed, overall you won't be disappointed if you love mystery thrillers like Me! Highly Recommended! 😄

Annoying people doing stupid things in a cold place
jonasatmosfera7 December 2020
I guess there is nothing more I can say to describe yet another TV series.

I knew people are stupid and selfish. But I did not know that scientists were that stupid and that selfish. This idea of isolated humans and a murder mystery has been done before, right? The script is confusing, the dialogue is irritating, or in other words, typical TV fare.

Also, nothing in the show makes sense. One day the sky is blue, the next day,the sun is gone and the dimwits in the Polar Station are immersed in the deepest winter night walking outside with their faces exposed to the Antarctic freezing air. I would not be surprised if at the end of the series it is revealed that the killer is a rogue Polar Bear.

Amundsen and Scott must be turning in their graves.

Mystery fans will solve it mid way through
Cujo_Firebird13 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Well acted and fairly well written. Dialogue holds true for the most part and the actors are very believable though some character development could have happened, and possibly left on the cutting room floor. Sets and camerawork very good. Fairly high production value.

If you are a fan of murder mysteries, or mind bending movies and tv shows the attempt at a trail of breadcrumbs are giant flashing signs where you will figure it out.

Story told in real-show-time and flashbacks.

They made a reveal at around 20 min in of ep4 where I figured it out. End episode they did the big reveal with flashbacks, possibly for what is termed "American audiences". Ending was predictable though. I would have ended it a bit differently with all the pieces falling into place like The Usual Suspects.

Stars taken off for predictability and me figuring it out halfway through making the remaining 2 eps and 20 min or so of ep4 kind of moot for me.

Decent way to binge 6 hours of your life.

Worth a watch.

It starts strong but it falls apart
grizeh22 October 2022
The start of the series is very good and after seen the first episode I really though I had found a hidden gem. The acting was good enough and the suspense set at the beginning is intriguing. Unfortunately it feels apart halfway through it with classical tropes that we have seen it to death in murder mysteries. The series also goes for the typical twist at the end which sadly have became commonly used nowadays but worst of all is that it is so telegraphed that you see it coming from a mile away.

Overall this series is just above average, not a great show but if you like this genre and don't have anything better to watch it may be worth a shot.

Brilliant, Keeps you guessing until the end.
UrbanIntrovert22 July 2020
One of the best mystery series I've seen this year so far. As I started watching, I thought it was just going to be the usual antarctic sci-fi horror rip off the The Thing. Only when I kept watching it, I realised this is a different beast all together. The way they kept revealing secrets slowly, peeling off the true mystery; it was just absolute brilliant. It made me keep guessing & second guessing myself.

I do urge the people here to keep watching till the end to find the real mystery, this show had so many layers to it. If you're one of those people who just watches the first episode & think I've seen it all before, trust me you're so wrong. This is one of those shows you just have to watch it till the end to get the twist. I'm not gonna give away the twist but I'll say this, it's only by the sixth episode you start to see the whole picture.

Verdict - Brilliant.

An unfortunate miss
ebeckstr-122 February 2021
I can understand why a lot of people like this show quite a bit. It had a lot of potential - decent acting, an intriguing Agatha Christie + John Carpenter setup - but ultimately is two episodes too long, with a resolution which, while somewhat surprising and engaging, is too preposterous. I'm not sure it was worth the wait of 6 hours of viewing time. If you do watch it be sure you do so right up until the closing credits.

Enjoyable mystery/drama
Quigonjay4 September 2020
Whodunit type mystery/drama. Certainly an international effort - Spanish/Japanese production set at a research station in the South Pole in English, Swedish and Danish languages and filmed in the Canary Islands. Some great performances from some of the cast, keeps you guessing until the end.

Psychopaths in Antarctica!
chaney-3056514 February 2021
Hmmm. Mystery murders in Antarctica during the long winter. Without giving details away, do not these type of assignments fully vet their personnel? WTH. Who assigns these people to these types of long job assignments at the bottom of the world!? Give me a break! Again murder mystery theater!

Why oh why?
bitbucketchip29 April 2022
Why can't they portray scientists correctly onscreen? Scientists have emotions, sure, but they are also able to think logically and rationally. This group of scientists have more in common with Hollywood writers sitting in a room than actual researchers. Nothing they do is logical, rational, or reasonable.

Trying to ignore the tidal wave of glaring errors gets old fast. Isolated stations in the Antarctic don't need locks on their doors. Ventilation shafts are not large enough to be crawled through because of turbulence. The sun doesn't go from high noon one day to not rising the next. At eighty below naked people freeze long before they can climb through an air vent. Scientists stay in these stations to do research that can only be performed under those conditions: bacteria can be studied anywhere. And so on and on and on.

Five stars for an interesting setting, good acting, and a very engaging first episode. No stars for making us watch hours of flashbacks that never happened. Five stars.

Kept me guessing...
ellenhouston-8790019 February 2021
This is an excellent who-dun-it series much in the old school style of 'And Then There Were None' like an Agatha Christie novel. Murderer on the loose, questioning the motive of each of the players with a little bit of the story unfolding after each death. I loved the multiple twists in plot and it kept me guessing. I appreciated the novel idea to set the story at a science station in Antarctica. Film gave a nod to some famous explorers as well as to another film set in an Antarctic science station that will go unnamed.... Unlike other reviewers I enjoyed the climate change elements in the script, it added a new dimension to the story-telling, but can appreciate why other reviewers thought it was perhaps insulting to scientists or weakly represented. One recommendation, this is not a show to binge watch in one sitting. Take your time with it, enjoy its complexity and excellent acting, there is a lot going on in each episode that you don't want to miss.

Good show
bangel33222 January 2021
It was enjoyable enough and didn't drag out like some shows do. 6 episodes was definitely enough. I did guess the killer though, I felt they dropped far too many clues in as to the killer's identity so the mystery was lost a bit there. Still good though.

Crazies in the snow
tonydun25 September 2020
I only got a couple of episodes in and I had to stop. The plot was heavily reliant on heavily flawed people acting badly. When you realise how intensely people are scrutinised and analysed before being sent to Antarctica, this just seemed so unlikely it seemed a tad ridiculous to me. If you're happy to suspend your critical faculties and roll with it, you might enjoy it but I couldn't.

Ending?
faesq15 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This review will have spoilers about the ending************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************ Simply put, given the amount of deaths that occurred, all by murder, the investigation into what happened at the post would be deep to say the least. Regardless that there is a suspect in hand, any thorough investigation would divulge Maggie's relationship to Sarah thus clearly establishing that she had motive and the accusations against Arthur would fall apart. The way she got the assignment, her predecessor being killed in a hit and run alone would cause a deeper look into her background. I just don't see any way she would get away with everything as the ending implies.

Glad that it was a mini series. If any longer I could have been bored. Rather predictable but as of this writing all the TV series of my choice are on hold due to Covid-19 and supply of good dramas are lacking.. otherwise I could have missed this one easily.

No Need To Use Your Head
dimensions_audi17 March 2021
From The Very First Episode The Agenda Is Very Clear i.e To Seek Who's Behind All Those Murders. Plot Is Very Straight Forward But Not In A Way You Want Things To Get Unfold. No Twist and Turns. Not Every Character Gets Their Fair Share Of Screen Space. No Character Development Like The Writers Were In Hurry As Series Starts From Middle Of No Where i.e Antarctica. Now, Why To Watch..? Well..!! The Camera Work Is Handy and Lead Characters Could Have Done Better But You Can See The Fair Share Of Mixed Emotions & Act And A Satisfying End.

Captivating
Nikitas2221 July 2020
I've watched 2 episodes so far and it's actually very good. The idea is great, the setting is perfect, the acting is realistic and more than satisfactory, the suspense is almost palpable... congrats are in order. For those who didn't like it, I understand that a major problem was the fact that the dialogues are in other languages, as well as in English. So, I presume we talk about reviewers whose mother tongue is English (Americans, I dare guess). C'mon, fellas! Language alone is no serious reason to dislike a show, unless you are uneducated, (culture-wise), narrow-minded and you think the entire world evolves around your microcosm.

Entertaining, then peaters out
claeysm23 February 2022
I can't deny that I was entertained enough through this series to binge watch most of it. The atmosphere lent itself well to a thriller, and I will always vote to see unfamiliar faces on the screen rather than the same people all the time. Some of these actors were great, a couple not so much, but the cinematography and editing were quite good.

Story wise, I'm not a fan of the twist ending genre. While The Head still managed to keep my interest, the last couple episodes were a bit rushed and messy. The final truth is dropped on you like a "gotchya!" moment rather than something for the viewer to understand and discover on their own. I didn't entirely buy it, and to be honest I was pretty disappointed that everything had built to reveal such a far out explanation. Just because you don't know for sure who dunnit, doesn't mean it's clever.

It is hard to judge from the beginning, but an outstanding addition could do that. Multiple languages as well as mixing mysterious homicide with scientific mission in freezing pole can take the wachers' attentions. Godspeed

Watching this was a lot of work.
concreterdude26 July 2020
Not a thriller. Was about as thrilling as 90210. Hardly a mystery. While there is a mystery. You cant solve it because the clues get served to slowly and blatantly. Low brow fantasy. Every major plot point is built around something that is not going to ever happen.

I'm all for suspended belief when watching a movie or show. But this one really makes you work hard to have any hope of entertainment.

From Diesel fuel explosions to people running around in the arctic in their underwear. Remote research stations with only one means of communication and only one coms Opperator. With no spare parts for the only radio.

The glaring technical flaws come hard and fast to the point its impossible to enjoy the reasonably good acting. Could have been much better if the production and writing team actually put some effort in to doing some research into the location.

Love the thrill and suspense! I like this kind of movie. Makes my brain think hard in advance if who would be the possible killer. Craving for the next episode. Can't wait. Friday is too long. Hahahaha. I want to guess the killer but nah, I'll just keep it. We'll see if I'm right or wrong. 🤗

Unexpected
hajerkhalid21 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This show could transfer us to another word that many of us have no idea about. I was feeling cold while the temperature is high where I live. The story presenting is so interesting. It had been taken from Agatha Christie's writing style. Strangers living in a place that's in a far point in the earth and one of those people is the killer that want to punish them for their acts.

The acting is great. The cinematography is clear and great. I could be engaged in al characters and be connected to even the characters that didn't live so much.

I gave it 7/10 because of the way how the producers used Remon or the Cook or the actor in La casa de papel to attract audience to watch. It not just about putting his image in the main poster for the first two episodes. It's about making people keep wondering about the character and expecting many of it while it's a secondary character and has nothing interesting. They kept using him till episode 5 to attract people to watch the show. The story is great they didn't need to follow this cheep way.

I want just to know what is the secret in his phone that led him to collaborate with Anka?

For the ending... it was mot expected at all. This was so great from them to take us to a point that nobody would expect. This poor girl did all that'

Interesting but with disappointing ending
silva_e_souza12 August 2020
Interesting but with a disappointing ending. The first chapter was fantastic, telling the story from its end. Was cool. And the following chapters, from the first to the fifth episode, were very good but the last one was terrible .. There is only one witness for the prosecution and is she credible? I didn't like the ending, OK?
