Ambili is a film which bathes you in the moonlight as you passes through the movie with a smile on your face and tears in your eyes. The title character of the movie is a man who still posses the child like innocence which people around him often take for granted. A good decent road movie with a heart doesn't boast anything extra ordinary except for human relationships.
Ambili is a person who is always excited and will do anything for the people who speaks softly with as he takes it to be symbol of their true self or in other words he thinks everyone is like him.
Ambili doesn't make you sympathize with the main character instead makes you empathize with hiim.
The visuals of the village was extraordinary and has captured the place in its entire beauty.

Ambili is a soft and smooth movie filled with lots of emotions. There is hate, anger, depressing scenes and above all love. Soubin Shahir was so energetic and gave an excellent performance. Naveen Nazim was okay in a supporting role and Tanvi Ram had a good debut. Johnpaul George's second movie after Guppy was as good as the first. The music and background scores were good and it had a great impact on give us different feelings. The cinematography was also very good and has done a great job in capturing different places in a good style. Overall, Ambili is a worth watching feel good movie and is a must watchable for Soubin Shahir's performance.

Five-line review: There's nothing path-breaking about the script of Ambili other than the (clichéd) fact that it propagates love and feel-good vibes. The titular character of Ambili, played by a spectacular Soubin, has been written well and is one reason why the film's climax (the destination) will emotionally move you in comparison with everything that precedes (the journey). The relationship arcs between the protagonists Ambili, Bobby (a wooden, low-on-charisma Naveen Nazim), and Teena (a bright Tanvi Ram) are unevenly sketched. The second half is very travelogue-like; this may not appeal to those trying to seek out a storyline amid all that's going on. Overall, it's Soubin's performance that should keep you reasonably engaged.
Maybe wait for it to stream on Netflix/Amazon?

Not a great movie, but not bad either. I like Soubin Shahir's portrayal of an intellectually disabled person. There are periods of utter boredom in between, but if you get through that, overall, an almost realistic depiction of how disabled people are treated.
On a side note, the way the boy Shirpu is made to act like an adult brat would be funny if it was limited to the movies. Have seen parents encourage a similar behavior among their kids and find it quite funny, it is not.

Don't expect too much from the movie.. and if you're looking for a comedy movie then this is not the one . Saubin acting is good rest of them also same ... you might look at your watch some time between the movie coz u will feel bored... Tanvi Ram acted despite her debut movie...

First of all i want to throughout the movie the camera work and background score was excellent. But, that's about it. The movie writing is poor. 1st half is watchable but, second half the story goes down hill and also the acting was pretty ordinary. Expected more from the director of Guppy.

This is very good example of an underwritten movie. Not able to connect with characters emotionally or in any other sense. This 2h 20m film is filled with beautiful frames without adding any bit of emotions and unwanted boring shots and sequences. Director tried to add short stories inside the main thread (I don't think that exists) to add the "experience" to their journey and that felt so fake and made up.

I too was very doubtful about watching this movie; after reading all mixed reviews. But when it played on TV, i gave it a shot. MAN !!! I was blown away...Shoubin's acting as always = masterpiece. He has come a long way now.
The story was what most of the people, mentioned as either lagging or poorly written. But i have just one tagline for you all; if you loved "Guppy", then this film falls on the same rack of that emotional supermarket. Though it is not as tragic or sad as guppy, it is smoething else. A warm feeling lingers inside your stomach after the movie gets over, the Director has ensured that this time also.

The very first scene in which Ambili (Soubin Shahir) was on put a wide smile on my face. And that admiration of his innocence continued till the very end. Soubin Shahir is a class actor. The movie was carried by him and him only.
When Teena Kurian (Tanvi Ram) said she would want to marry Ambili, just like her parents and her brother I didn't understand why. But at the end of the movie, I together with everyone other character in the movie understood why Ambili was such a beautiful human being.
I agree with other reviewers that the Bobby character (played by Naveen Nazim) wasn't as strongly portrayed. The story itself didn't seem to flow well (especially in the second part with the little episode of an old lady and man re-uniting at one of the stops).
Never knew Soubin Shahir was the one who played the PT Teacher role in Premam. And also just found out about Sudani from Nigera, for which he won the Kerala State Award in 2018. Shall catch that too.

Capsule Review: Ambili (3 Stars)

I usually like road movies but Ambili (Moon; given Malayali feminine name) felt like an ineffective mixture of pretentious emotional tugging (the story about a dim-witted person being taken for granted by those who know him) and a nonsensical "finding your way" arc (where a snobby young cyclist takes the road to cover the length of India for publicity) that just make you revolt in anger and due to boredom. It is clear that the director had nothing to say in the second half as the drama rambles along even making it look like it was all the scenes that a sensible director would cut out. Even the technical aspects of the film (two Punjabi strangers getting involved in a tiff for absolutely no reason, a doctor and his whole village giving refuge to a wandering duo, the cyclist character riding on the wrong side of the road just to get the shot right) are out of place. While Shahir goes borderline full which I can better describe using a Malayalam word "goshti" (tomfoolery) and it's his full film throughout (not one scene making you not coil in discomfort) unless you somehow manage to ignore the ghastly acting of the newcomer Naveen Nazim who looks everything like he doesn't belong here. Save for a couple cool songs and some beautiful photography, Ambili was a huge disappointment and falls just short of being one of the biggest failures of Malayalam cinema in 2019. Well, that's for me, because there are better realistic and feel-good films out there this year alone. To borrow another Malayalam word, Ambili can be best described as "kopraayam" (also meaning tomfoolery). Don't waste your chance on this. TN.

A character driven film where the filmmaker changes the perspective of the film to the side character post intermission, that made me in two minds on the credibility of the narrative.
Nothing to worry, the film turns out to be one of my favourite films in recent times, I hope the film works for you as well.
Kudos to the filmmaker to write and execute many heart wrenching scenes with ease and grace. All the characters are well developed especially Ambili, played by Shoubin.
First half delves with Ambili, his surroundings, his likings, his dreams and then when we expect something to turn dramatic, the filmmaker brilliantly changes the mood of the film to that of a travel film. Yes, the second half is only about travel and the narrative flows through primarily via Bobby's perspective and his realisations.
Acting wise- everyone magnificently played their part, and of course it is Shoubin who impressed me, yet again. One of the top notch performances I have seen in Malayalam films in recent times. The actor enacted the climax scenes flawlessly, just wondering whether he made the life of the director way easy- every scene we see him- he has not digressed one tiny bit from his character, that has to be appreciated.
Finally, the entire credit goes to the filmmaker to come up with such a beautiful experience and some heavy emotional scenes where you find it difficult to keep your eyes dry all the time in this journey with Ambili.
Ambili - Highly Recommended
