I laughed, I cried!
monacodanielle18 February 2019
This is now one of my favorite slice of life animes. I was impressed by the humor as much as i was impressed by the touching moments in Hinamatsuri. If you like Fruits Basket, Saiki K or Mob Psycho 100, you will most defintely enjoy this anime. I watched all of the episodes in one sitting and was upset that there weren't more. The characters are all so easy to fall in love with!! Although, a cliff hanger without the prospect of more seasons is super mean and unfair to fans!

Really well written - funny and sweet characters and situations. Could have been 10 stars, but theres no season 2 to take it further.

Very Entertaining

I am not a fan of slice-of-life, but this is amazing. Everything from the animation to the characters to the situations is perfect and entertaining. This is a great comedy if you're looking for something truly pure and wholesome about odd families. I love this series, and and would highly recommend it.

The best comedy/slice of life anime genre so far

It took only first episode to get hooked. The jokes are fresh, some episodes contain deep meaningful life lessons, and the characters are so true to life. Hidden gem this is.

Good Heartwarming story with Nice visuals

Warning: Spoilers
A Little spoiler ahead-- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hinamatsuri or Hina Festival is story of a seemingly innocent child Hina, fell into the Modern World Japan .Where a yakuja member, Nitta found her. Yakuja shown in this Anime are just the opposite of the typical one, while they encourage Nitta to take care of her as his own daughter. So far i have been to 10 Episodes and its a kind story gives a bit feeling of Usagi Drop if anyone has seen it.

Nitta has some mixed feelings or paternal instinct towards Hina, who has Psycic superpowers. Initially he want to exploit it but as the story develops he started to develop a paternal bond toward the girl. Few other characters are in the shows are equally as important as Hina. You may understand if you decide to give this anime a chance. Overall a very good, funny, heartwarming anime show with a bit of action.

There no best girl only best daughter in this anime
phanthinga6 January 2019
Hinamatsuri is my greatest discovery in 2018 anime list cause when the show still airing it went completely under my radar and I recently watch it on Spring 2019 but it quickly become the best slice of life and comedy anime for me in quite a while. If you love Mob Psycho 100 and Psychic Kusuo then you bound to love Hinamatsuri at well and the cherry on top is best daughter of the season "Anzu". The two man character Hina with her voice that always make me laugh when she interact with the people surround her and Hitomi with her funny nonetheless successful life is a great piece of social commentary but all of that will fade away when "Anzu" come in her spotlight and make the everyone in and out the anime go: Awwwwwwww! I want to cherish her forever. I really hope it got a second season in the future cause in the manga everything is even more awesome after the 3 years time skip

Had me giggling like a little kid in each episode.

Loved this show. Tried it out at the request of a friend, and then watched all of it in 2 days.

It's a dry humor, but that's my favorite. If you like dry humor you're gonna have a good time.

An excpetion in anime comedy
Protogeist11 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I have never really been a fan of comedy in anime. For the most part, it's slapstick and funny moments. Both of which, I'm not really a fan of. Of course, there have been animes that I have found funny. But compared to youtubers or western tv-shows, it's not close. Maybe it's unfair to compare anime with two "different genres", but that's just how it is.

But when I saw that Mother's basement made a video about Hinamatsuri and called it the funniest anime of the year, I was intrigued. So after watching the fourth season of Bojack Horseman, which was probably the darkest season of the show, I wanted something more light-hearted and funny. So Hinamatsuri was a definite watch.

Something I immediately recognized was how unusually funny it was. It wasn't the funniest show I had watched, far from it actually. But like I said, anime comedies don't usually give me more than a chuckle. So when this show had a pretty good amount of laughs and chuckles, I knew it was special. Maybe it was the direction they went with the extremely emotional faces or the generally absurd humor. But it was definitely special.

And similarly to another comedy anime, miss Kobayashi's dragon maid, I was surprised by the depth the show had. And there was one particular character that helped me come to that conclusion.

Anzu is introduced in the second episode of the show and is shown to be very loud and aggressive. We later learn that she is there to challenge Hina, the main character. She is basically a normal rival character. but after a few episodes, she meets a homeless man. He teaches her how to earn money and gives her a community to be with. This changes Anzu's character completely. Her new ethics make her much more of an interesting character and looks like a completely new character by the end. And the conclusion of her character arc was very satisfying. I don't want to spoil too much, but trust me. She is definitely y favorite character in the show. Sadly, this was the only character that had this much of a depth. but it doesn't mean that every other character is bad. Quite the opposite actually.

I could talk about the story and every other aspect a show has. but to me, the characters and the humor is what you should watch it for. Cause the rest is not as good. I didn't find the music to be great, but still enjoyable, the art is pretty good and the plot points that happen are interesting.

At the end of the day, it is another great comedy anime with a lot of heart, 8/10

I've read manga as well and anime adaptation is quite good I'd suggest you to read manga first because you'll love to watch the characters in action after you'll have gotten a taste of manga <3

Laidback Hina for comedic release & Determined Anzu for emotional ride. And many more....
sisubalan5 January 2023
Odd start and at first glance it reminded me of space baby, beelzebub, gantz and several other animes under slice of life & comedy category. The quality of production seems okay for me, an okay animation style snd bright tone setup that works well with the scifi storyline. To be honest i wasnt connected with the flow of the storyline at first, took a while for me to catch up and starting to like. Good call in making hina as someone with laidback attitude but still able to express emotions and act cute.

For me, the introduction of Anzu made this series much better. Laidback Hina as for comedic release and Innocent Anzu as for emotional release while unfortunate Hitomi used as to tackle a real life adultery experience such as responsibility and growing up lol. Them. This anime taught me a valuable lesson on being homeless and their perspective. Anzu's performance was very compelling and moved me to tears. Reminded me of the sentiments from one piece especially that ugly crying by anzu.

Voice castings were okay for me, each of them paired up well with their respective characters design and potrayal. Nothing big on the action departments but the intro song was dope. Ending song was cool and appreciates the outro. Highly recommended.

I just loved it ;.) Anzu
puneetsharma919 October 2018
I story that is good enough with a tale of a girl that is like a robot and mostly don't care anyone turn out to be little bit helpful. Thank full the gangster.

To be fair I never like the main character I like most Anzu. I like to talk about Anzu but that would be spoiler as she has amazing character development and if I tell you what she end up then it spoiled.

And story joke are good. Also this season ended with cliff-hanger.

wow this is such a bad anime.
thedyingpunk1 April 2024
I mean it has its good parts but the fact that no one mentions the forced child labor, betting, blackmailing and all the other bad parts is amazing to me. Its my second anime that i watch and i think this is where im stopping with watching this type of stuff. Now i know why people hate anime watchers. People that enjoyed this anime are a differend breed of people. Which is sad. But yeah this anime is dreadful and i would not recomend it to no one. Its a mostly sad anime which is weird how so many people enjoyed it but i guess in the anime world this is what passes for entertainment. If you dont think this story is bad then i dont know what kind of person you are.

I wish I got a third season
appikuttanshit17 August 2018
Hinamatsuri is not only the story Hina but also the story of other characters. Everything has its own beauty, just like that Hinamatsuri also has its own beauty. The main element of this series is nothing but comedy. To be honest, it was like OK for me till the first 4 episodes but after 5th episode I couldn't resist but to watch the whole series till the end. The cast and crew were amazing, I gotta give credit to that. As for the character wise every one in this series are idiots except Mishima. She was the only one who had sense and I gotta tell you she is my favorite character. Every time she turns up, she would crack you up more than other characters. Overall this series has its own beauty. It was beautiful for me. In my opinion it's a must watch series. Just give it a chance

A slice of life comedy that is easy to fall in love with
swiggy-222 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Based on the manga by Masao Otake that has been running in Harta magazine since 2010. The story revolves around a Yakuza member named Nita Yoshifuma. One night, while celebrating that he won a very rare vase in an auction, a strange anomaly occurs over his head. From this portal bursts a metal pod that hits him on the head. When he recovers, he sees the pod with a forlorn looking face staring at him. Thinking it may be the effect of pills he took, he decides to go to bed and that it will be gone in the morning.

After waking up, he showers, dresses, and returns to his living room, only to be greeted by the pod and the face asks him to release her. Yes, that face belongs to a little girl that tells him how to do so. He presses the button like she told him, and in a surge of energy, he is staring at a naked adolescent girl, who immediately requests clothing. When Nitta tells her to get out, she demonstrates that she's nobody to tangle with as she has telekinetic powers. She immediately proceeds to destroy his beloved vase collection.

When Nitta tries to find out more about this girl, who says her name is Hina (Japanese for Doll) he's stonewalled by her saying she can't tell him. Season 1 does not explain where she came from, although there is foreshadowing in the first episode. All we find out later on is that she was an experiment from an organization that was trying to make a powerful weapon. She is the third, and most powerful, of the three the anime introduces.

Hina and Nitta form a bond when the head of his Yakuza family (the Oyabun) wants him to find a low cost construction crew to clear some land for a development. Having discovered Hina's destructive capacity if she doesn't use her powers, which he forbade her to use, he immediately realizes he can use her to do the land clearing. Afterwards, Nitta is excited by what they'd accomplished in one day, and the look in his eyes disturbs Hina. She was familiar with that look from the adults that had once ordered her. Nitta shows compassion and says he won't be like those adults.

Suddenly, his cell phone rings and the second in command is on the line. The oyabun has been attacked by a rivel gang. Nitta is given the task of taking out the head of that gang. It's a suicide mission, as the target is holed up in their headquarters.Unknown to Nitta, Hina has hidden in the back seat of his car, and offers to take on the job: all Nitta has to do is order her to do so. Nitta refuses, holding true to his word that he won't be like the adults that sent Hina to him. With a smile, Hina proceeds towards the building on her own. Nitta tries to stop her but before he can, she's already inside and members of the rival gang are flying out doors and windows at a rapid rate. In the English dub, the word "owie" takes on a hilarious connotation and becomes the running gag of the series, although not overused.

Nitta gets a field promotion and, true to manga/anime tradition, Hina has one classic quirk: her appetite. Her favorite food is Ikura with salmon roe. Nitta treats her to that as a reward for helping him get this promotion in the organization.

While that is just a summary of the first episode, there is a lot more. The first superpowered girl we meet is in the opening scene and occurs 3 years after Hina arrived. We meet her again, late in the season. her name is Mao.She was the first experiment. Episode 2 introduces us to the second girl in the experiment, Anzu. She has been sent by the organization to destroy Hina. By the fifth episode, she becomes everyone's favorite. Episode 11 even has Nitta wishing she were his "daughter" instead of Hina.

The fourth girl in the series, and along with Anzu, a major support, is Hina's Classmate, Hitomi Mishima. A hard working young girl that gets top scores in her class. While in Junior High she becomes a bartender, putting away a nice nest egg, while keeping it a secret from her mom, and her teacher (who happens to be one of her best customers).

The story is considered a slice of life, but, due to how the girls arrive, and the powers they wield, the Science-Fiction/Fatasy label can be incorporated. It's fun for the whole family.

What a nice magnificent Anime, for sure I would recommend it for kids all ages above 13 for the superpower stuff which is cool minor side of the show. it has so fun humor that made me laugh so loud that I began to speak with myself. These very shows that creators and publishers should get more attention to. it has a main good message which i think to be kids easily change with their circumstances and have the good spirit to grow.

Formated comedy.
Derache29 December 2018
This anime, was not unique or very special. Its just another seasonal comedy that is fun to watch.

It really reminds me of dragon maid.

The story, is very lack luster with a ton of events that happen for no reason. Majority of the issues are finished within half or a full episode.

> find a problem > work through the problem events happen > Leads up to one final joke.

The artstyle is very nice though. hina is a cute girl, and they use transitions to different scenes very well. Its a very simple but effective thing to change art style to emphasize a scene, and this show is no exception to it.

The sound quality is good, its nothing super or really good, but it does its job. Jesus though, the blond loli's voice actor was annoying.

The characters were good however. Every character was distinct when needed, and plain when needed.

My enjoyment of the show would be a 8/10. The good times were good, and i mean really good, like a 9 or 10. The problem was the bad times, which were trash, they were a 6 or a 7 at best. Thats why im leaving it at a 8.

Overall I give It a 7/10 as it is nothing special and as much as I enjoyed it, its nothing special.

It was a good start but then it became boring very quickly after watching 3 eps...
Irishchatter7 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I get why people would really like this anime because you hardly see a young girl who is a bored alien and teams up with a smart gang leader. The jokes at the start of episode one & two were funny, especially the scene where Hina and Anzu faced off using wind powers on each other. Their faces were all over the place, they hardly moved an inch and Nitta was nearly peeing himself with laughter. Yeah, can't say I blame him there lol.

On episode 3, I felt the scenes in that were rather dragging on and it just didn't seem entertaining for me anymore. It's a real shame since the show did have the potential for me to like it but unfortunately I felt it was struggling too harshly on itself to cope with me wanting more variety out of it.

Wonderful
Nonomemes5 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The proper origin of the 3 graces is unknown to humans in the anime series, they fall more or less from the sky and what is known is just that they are linked by some kind of "organization". The sci-fi part is really irrelevant in this series, the story is more a slice-of-life one, each of them struggle to integrate in a different way, they slowly adapt and retain somehow it's own peculiarity.

There are many hidden stuff but I don't want to spoiler too much, especially related to the Japanese culture and lifestyle, for example think that "Hina" is the one who ends right with a Yakuza guy (Nitta).

Speaking of "normal humans", Hitomi is incarnation of perfection, I can not remind in other series a character who is as much developed as well as flawless, exemplary (E.g. I remember Takagi-san but she is not fully "realistic").

Takes also top of my list of best scenes ever: "Congrats on becoming new lieutenant".

As of today I am still undecided if to read the Manga or not, something tells me that I can hardly make it better than it is. Only the future will tell.
