Tight Acting, Good Plot
twelve-house-books20 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I went into this film not expecting much, but was surprised by the tight acting of the two lead women as well as the men playing boyfriend and homicidal maniac and the woman playing the victim being raped and murdered. The plot was good as well--a classic Ghost Story set somewhere in today's California near San Jose. Some of the scenes are not for the squeamish, but if you've seen tons of Horror as I have, you won't be too bothered with the severed heads and limbs or the extreme violence.

Not the best horror but a few jump out of your seat scares
pal0505200317 December 2019
Echoes of Fear follows the trope of many haunted house stories. Characters move in to the house, and the house is haunted. The protagonist has to find out the dark past of the house to solve the problem. The pacing is definitely a problem because things seem to move too slow, however, the mystery aspect of the story helps maintain interest. The acting is mediocre, but the jump scares are effective. There are two scenes when I jumped off my seat. Fortunately, the effective scares balances with the bad acting, making movie neither too horrible, or too enjoyable. I would say this is one of the average horror movies that slightly veer to the bad.

Good enough to hold my interest, unlike so many modern horror films
Stevieboy66613 November 2020
A young woman called Alysa (played by Trista Robinson, who has the voice of a young child, this was pretty annoying!) inherits her late grandfather's large house. She moves in with a view to selling it but almost immediately spooky things start to happen, including a creepy cookie jar, the top of which moves by itself. About half an hour we and we get our first supernatural jump scare, I'm man enough to admit this and the following one did work on me. However, they soon became ineffective. What appealed to me about this movie is that the ghosts are only half the horror, in fact if anything they are the goods guys, despite looking "scary". The real horror is much more real, as her best friend says "Whatever this is it's way beyond ghosts!". The film has a fairly small cast which includes an elderly man living next door who is a chain smoker despite being attached to a portable oxygen tank, and a delightful pet mouse, rightfully given a credit (Twikie and Twixie). There are some obviously fake reviews on here giving it 10/10 but in a sea of mediocre horror movies this one was slightly better than average. I'd not watch it again but I found it a satisfying watch.

Ehh
joshuagreen-9694218 June 2020
I couldn't get past the lead actor's voice; Trista Robinson sounds like a 5 year old girl. And she went to the open mouth school of acting. Good grief, why do so many female actors have their mouths gaping open like an idiot in every other scene?? It's so obviously contrived, most people do not walk around with their mouths open!

One Star for the Mouse
chad-613134 July 2020
This was a painful watch. The mouse acted better than the humans. I hit the fast-forward button to see an ending that I had already foresaw and no fear factor whatsoever- don't waste your time.

I give up on horror.
rocknrelics18 October 2020
Horror has been my favourite genre for decades, but with films like this I think it's time to give up hope.

Yet another poorly acted (very poorly acted), cheap, nasty looking film (well, video), made for the teen or just plain stupid market.

There is nothing remotely memorable about this film, it's completely beige and dull.

I'm beginning to doubt I'll ever see another new decent horror film again.

Get past the baby voice, great story! Superstar pet rat too
MovieQween-336223 August 2020
Okay so I'm so surprised!! This was kind of decent. Now you do have to get past the baby voice that the main character does. I won't lie, it's pretty bad. But after you accept it, the story itself isn't bad! A few jump scares and some mysterious things happen. Story was intriguing enough for me! Good suspense. Low budget but I've honestly seen a lot worse. If you like thriller/suspense/horror similar to What Lies Beneath and some elements of Sixth Sense. Great watch for Prime Video! Side note: The pet rat in here (Twinkie?) is super impressive with his skills LOL I'm not a pet rat enthusiast or anything but I do love animals. And let me tell you this rat in here is intuitive, athletic and skilled. He's so dang cute and funny! He's a Hollywood rat and deserves all the cheese. So pleasantly surprised with this low budge thriller/ horror!!!

Pretty good actually
BandSAboutMovies17 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Echoes of Fear premiered at the 18th annual Shriekfest Horror Festival, the longest running horror festival in Los Angeles, where it won Best Supernatural Horror Feature. Since then, the film has won six Best Feature Awards at other festivals.

Directed by the team of Brian and Laurence Avenet-Bradley - and filmed in the house that they live in - Echoes of Fear follows Alysa, who has inherited her grandfather's home. As she puts it up for sale, she starts to sense that there's a presence in the home that is not from our world.

The film was inspired by several real life killings, from the Hillside Strangler being two cousins to the ghost rapes of Bolivia, where women in a Bolivian Mennonite community were convinced that ghosts or demons were attacking them in their sleep when it was really men using animal anesthetic. Closer to home - the South Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh - Roy Kirk's murder of Ann Hoover also had a hand in this film. That killer dug a tunnel to her house from his home to break in and dismember her.

This movie takes a definite turn in the last part, so the rug gets pulled out from under you. It's better than most of the WalMart straight to streaming dreck out there and certainly worth a watch.

Strange House
Pairic17 December 2020
Echoes of Fear : After her grandfather dies in a bathroom fall, Alysa (Trista Robinson) inherits his house and prepares it for sale. Strange noises and movements start to disturb her. A bathtub is blocked but a plumber is scared off when he tries to fix it. Whenever it looks as if the there is a rational explanation for the events things turn weirder, Alysa has strange visions and dreams, she sees creatures. A deceptive tale which reels you in only to change course. A few plot twists which will make you reconsider the narrative you are observing. While most of the horror is psychological there are some violent and disturbing scenes including a sword stick being put to good use and a couple of stranglings . Not a great horror film but it's certainly worth watching. Directed by Brian Avenet-Bradley and Laurence Avenet-Bradley, written by Brian Avenet-Bradley. On the Horror Channel. 6.5/10.

Worth a watch - suspenseful & creepy
zhivago978 August 2021
As others have mentioned, the lead character has a soft baby-like voice, which is obviously a little distracting since it's my first comment and the first comment made by many other reviewers too. But it's NOT a fatal flaw. In fact, to her credit, her acting is completely credible and her character is both likable and relatable. She could easily be someone's sister, neighbor or friend. I actually think she is very well cast in this film.

After the plot is laid down, there is considerable suspense and tension throughout. Is she being watched? Is she safe? Will she die? Etcetera

Yes, there is some unavoidable cliche in this type of storyline, but my advice is to go with the flow. Most people who like suspense will enjoy this movie because there are enough scare scenes and unknowns to keep it interesting. The scares result from the tension and the unknowns, not because of anything explicit or gory.

This is a lower budget movie. However it never felt homemade. It's easy to fall into the "film student experimental movie" trap but this movie is far from that...it's a legit movie production. So credit where credit is due! Kudos to everyone who worked on this movie.

Definitely worth a watch!

Very good concept and story - larger budget would have improved it greatly
beccagriffith-290557 July 2021
Conceptually it was brilliant. However the acting and cringe dialogue let it down quite abit.

There were a few good jump scares but it's not a scary movie in my opinion, it was more of a suspense/mystery movie with some frights.

Overall, I did enjoy the movie and I'd recommend if you have nothing else to watch.

Worst acting since acting was created.
laurajwnoble26 August 2020
Okay, so this is my first ever review but I feel like people NEED to be warned for the absolutely shocking acting by the main character. Utterly hopeless, she can't even look shocked or walk down some stairs like a human would. It sent me and my husband crazy how totally irritating her damn voice was and the relief when she wasn't on the screen. The rat was a better actor.

HOWEVER the jump scares are really very good, and some certainly catch you off guard. If they could've just extended the budget to a remotely decent actress and a few tweaks this film would've been a solid 7.5.

Most of the reviews were definitely done by cast and crew.
janbaex18 November 2019
Echoes of Fear is terrible in a very, very bad way. The editing is bad, leading to many unnecessary scenes and clips. The main character has the acting capabilities of a sack of potatoes, and the rest of the cast is pretty terrible too.

The writers must have been high because the dialogue constantly repeats itself and loops around on the reliance of making the protagonist sound crazy.

The only good part was the cinematography, which was actually somewhat creative in getting the right shot throughout.

Echoes of Fear is garbage.

Is this some kind of a joke?
omardakhane4 December 2019
I signed up just to leave a review about this "movie". This is the worst "film" I have ever seen in my whole life. I honestly believe it must have been created by amatures who know nothing about creating a film. It's truly the worst of the worst.

I firmly believe that all these "positive" reviews seem odd and they must've been created by the crew of the "film" themselves.

You are better watching YouTube horror short film created by little children than this waste of time.

My Review Of "Echoes Of Fear"
ASouthernHorrorFan30 October 2019
The story, at its core is a great- conceptually. It takes the basics of a creepy, haunted house tale and layers in a couple of complexities that heightens the interest level. . For most of what "Echoes Of Fear" is, it is really chilling, dark and well directed. There is some moments when expositional stuff feels forced. At times line delivery weakens story momentum.

The inconsistency is only barely noticeable, and for the most part the film is strong. The acting is good, at times great. The characters are developed and the cast never take them too far into 'theatrics'. It is obvious this is ultra indie work, still Brian and Laurence Avenet-Bradley create a cool, atmospheric thriller.

The horror elements are a mix of traditional haunted house tropes, chilling visual scenes and very dark subject matter. Most of the gimmicks are practical effects with expected CGI work. It all is well controlled, purposeful and affective. The jump scares are genuine moments and just going along with the main character uncovering such a disturbing past is horror done right.

Overall "Echoes Of Fear" has more to like than I initially expected. It isn't sensationalized for the sake of sensationalism, but it keeps a chilling, "this house possessed" attitude from start to finish. The paranormal tricks used look good, the build up of suspense and tension is gripping. There are a couple of minor issues with some of the writing- the ones I mentioned earlier but definitely check this one out if paranormal horror is your thing.

Low budget, but interesting enough
maxvent7 December 2019
Plot develops interesting enough through to keep watching. Nothing new to the genre, same topic explored in many different movies. Terrible casting for female lead, annoying voice and dumb face doesn't help.

Starts out as a relatively conventional haunted house full of ghosts, then turns into something more. Lots of jumps, creepy images, and nerve racking twists.

Standard Haunted House Entry
dana-kellish12 July 2020
Young woman inherits house from deceased grandfather and is beset by supernatural scares while living there to get it in shape to sell. Not much here that you haven't seen before, although there are a couple of creepy scenes and decent scares. A major drawback is the terrible performances put forward by everyone involved, especially by the main character, whose little girl voice and delivery is particularly off-putting.

A creepy, well-acted horror movie
basementreviews11 October 2019
It's shaping up to be a good season of horror movies, folks. First we tapped My Soul to Keep, and that owned. Then Along Came the Devil II, and we were not disappointed.

The hits keep on coming with Echoes of Fear, a new supernatural horror film with a groovy twist starring the talented Trista Robinson, who I predict will be the next big Scream Queen if she keep up like this. That woman brings a fine mix of vulnerability and intensity to a role, and has some of the best facial expressions I've ever seen. I felt her fear!

How's the movie though? Damn good! It takes a bit of time to get going, but once it does -- BAM! I jumped out of my seat a few times in some truly short's sh---ing moments. And, far as I can tell, all the scares were staged in camera. There was no CGI on display here.

Oh, what's it about? Right! Kinda important: Robinson plays a young woman who must confront the mysteries surrounding her grandfather's death when she inherits his house. Suffice to say, the house has a history, and something within it is not happy.

Co-writers/directors Brian and Laurence Avenet-Bradley crafted a groovy supernatural horror story that delivers the scares and keeps the audience guessing as to what is really going on. It sort of reminded of Nicholas McCarthy's The Pact, but in a good way (that movie got me too). I highly recommend people check this one out. A Good!

Decent Haunted House Flick
ramblingvagabond24 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
If you like creepy houses filled with mystery, you may enjoy this. It's got secret passages, hidden rooms, trap doors, and a mystery behind it. Sure, the acting is just so-so, and the production values are not great at all, but judging it for what it is, I enjoyed it.

A real bore
Leofwine_draca11 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
ECHOES OF FEAR is a typically cheap, mindless haunted house flick that has nothing to add to the genre whatsoever, simply going through the motions in a tired and unachieving way. An annoying lead actress leads us through a story about an old man dying in the shower; his granddaughter and boyfriend move into the property, only to find weird neighbours and even weirder events taking place in the home. The tired old twists are boring beyond belief, the climax as generic as they come, the film washed out and rubbish-looking. A real bore, this one.

Awful acting by lead actor
royakashanii11 May 2021
Omg I ve never seen the lead actor been so poor at acting, at the beginning I thought she was acting as a person with some deformity, but it turn out thats just her. I make sure i stay clear of any movies played by Trista Robonson.

Her acting and her annoying voice made the movie difficult to follow.

Overall a waste of time. Not sure who are the people giving it good reviews. (The pet rat was the best actor in this movie).
