I Don't Care Who He Is
Anonnamus6 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
James Spader is fantastic, Reddington or not. I can guarantee he's a thousand times more charismatic and complex than the original RR could have ever possibly been. I'm assuming Elizabeth did shoot the real RR and perhaps Red was protecting her by allowing her to think he was her real father. Either way, he's the only reason I'm still watching.

I have been harboring major dislike for the lead female character since around halfway through season 1. It's not the actress, it's the way the writers have written this character. Keen is demanding, whiny, and will bulldoze her way through any situation to get what she wants. She thinks she deserves to know everything and she doesn't care who she hurts in the process. She has never shown one ounce of loyalty to anyone in her circle, even though they continuously bail her out of every dangerous predicament she put herself in. Why the entire task force and Reddington continues to worship her is beyond my comprehension. I usually try to find something good in every character, even if I dislike them, but Elizabeth has none. It's difficult to watch a show when I sincerely cannot fathom why a lead character is there. I love good strong female leads, but Elizabeth Keen isn't one of them. This is the first show I have ever watched that could actually benefit from killing off their main character.

I will watch season 6 because Spader is that good. I'm rooting for him to finally wake up and see that Elizabeth deserves none of his loyalty and leaves her to get herself out of the future messes she will no doubt get herself into. This "love him hate him need him to save me" crap has gotten really old. For once, show some appreciation to someone who would give his life to save your annoying one.

Missing something?
klmason-029536 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
After reading a lot of these reviews I think many viewers are missing something. James Spader's character IS Liz's father, but he is NOT Raymond Reddington. We don't know his name or why he has pretended to be RR, which is the next mystery to be solved. All we know is that he is Liz's biological father and that sometime in the past he took over the real RR's identity.

I agree with everyone that the show is only good because of James Spader's superb acting.

Deplorable ending
caspere-9228821 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I have always hated Elizabeth...more and more with each passing season. Now to make Raymond NOT her father? Not even the real Ray...horrible...just terrible, terrible "twist". Just get rid of that woman once and for all and make The Blacklist great again, if not, cancel it cause with that ending, it's done already.

Every answer brings a new question
mehmet-genc28 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I liked this episode, and I really liked this Season. First, there were two season finales, not one; once again one of the main characters died. It also introduced some great villains like Ian Garvey.

But most importantly, this season started tying some loose ends and brought some answers. It didn't leave you in the lurch; they at least said what's in the bag so that we can have our own ideas about why it all started in the first place. And I think the identity of the bag's contents, while surprising, are not implausible at all. To the contrary, they're well worth protecting if you think about it. This season also had a lot of character development, especially for Liz. To me it was fascinating to watch how she is transformed from the rookie agent in Season 1, with her black and white world, into a much darker character, more and more like Reddington, sometimes almost beating him in his own game. Those who blame her for getting along with her sister, whose stepfather killed Liz's husband should put this in context of this character development, and her ulterior motive. This is how alliances are done. I do not blame Agent Keen to think the way she does at the end of the season; I think it's normal to have this reaction upon finding out what she did.

I think Season 5 improved upon previous seasons in many respects. And it gave us something to look for in Season 6, with both main characters strong and with a clear agenda. However, clearly there is more to the story. I guess we will find out in Season 6 (which I have not seen yet).

Shocking revelation confusing some people
terrylarosa18 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Looks like some viewers here are not so sharp. The real Reddington ( the bones ) is Liz's real father. The blood that Cooper had from 30 years before ( the real Reddington ) is what they used for DNA. If they had used the DNA that Liz acquired in the very first episode ( from SC: Spader's character ) she would have realized that SC is not her father. 5 years after Reddington died is when SC became Reddington. Katerina had the affair with the real Reddington not SC. Hope this clears things up.

Can you guess?

Sad to see so many bad reviews of an excellent episode. Question is who is James Spader's real character. So, if not the real Red Reddington, then who. I believe the answer will be troubling for Liz. Remember the fire in the house where Liz, Masha, fired the pistol and killed someone??? Did she kill her dad??? What was her dad's relationship with James Spader's character? After rewatching all episodes again, it becomes clear that the fake Red is watching over Liz like Mr. Kaplan was. As for those who don't like Liz's character, that is they was the writers wrote her part. She is torn with affection for Red and revolted. How can she be stable with those emotions bottled up in her. And now she has a sister. What else can go wrong.

Yup. Sigh.
drnikic29 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Liz: This is all my fault Me: Yup Liz: I should've just let it go.

Me: Yup. NOW She gets a conscience?!

Oh wait, no she doesn't.

Sigh.

Still, glad to see Fiona Dourif again. And I don't care what his name is, long as it's still James Spader under the hat!

Likely ending but great show
kpwhitu01 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
As I said to the wife, I saw this likely revelation coming in season 3, but was right for it to finally surface. To be honest, there has to be more to this as why would he have cared about Liz at the start of the whole season, why would her adoptive father have gone along with it. Many more questions which is the way a season should end.

I have always enjoyed this series and am looking forward to the next series.

What an amazing Season 5 Final!
cvanherp17 May 2018
My very first review on IMDB so be gentle. What a season final, wow! Action from the start to the very end. Will they reveal the duffel bags content? Yes, we do learn the truth, and only one other person does as well. The twist for me was that Red doesn't know the other person knows his secret, which brings up a lot more questions for Season 6. Personally I can't wait for S6 to start, Jan 2019 is a long wait!

Not going for season 6
jerseygirl49-674-59955918 September 2018
Love this show for 5 seasons until last episode of season five. James Spader is the reason I watch and I can see where this is heading. Like many other series the women take over to destroy a great character man ex. House of Cards. Agent Keen was nauseating enough but now it has a sister. Too bad. I'll just leave at 5th

Shocking reveal and an okay finale
lukebernstein35 February 2019
This finale was decent. The best part of the episode was the last 10 minutes and the reveal of the bones identity. But as a finale goes there is no season long villian just a one time villian. The big bad of season 5 is already dead. So as a finale it could have been better. Doesn't come near the greatness of Berlin parts 1 and 2. Alexander Kirk finale in season 3. Or Mr. Kaplan season 4. All those finales were much better. This season started out great but I feel like it fizzled out in the second half for the most part.

Body In The Duffel Bag!
truckabear21 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This show is one of my favourites. I have been following this show since the beginning and I always enjoy watching James Spader and I really miss Ryan Eggold(Tom Keen) since his departure.

I don't know too much about DNA but could the body in the bag be an "Identical Twin"? Did this Raymond Reddington impostor kill his brother?

I have read that 'identical twins' share identical DNA, so a DNA test cannot identify which of the twins is truly the biological father of a child. This is the only way I can see why this impostor's DNA matches with Elizabeth's DNA!

I was quite surprised with the ending and didn't see that one coming. Looking forward to season 6.

Why?
amreos17 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I will not talk about the DNA test that was suppose to be taken from the glass of water by liz , i lost my interest at this point, i thought he killed her mother , or something that will ruin the relation between Liz and Raymond forever , but this closure i did not like it , i don't care who is this guy , i'm already liked him , watched him for 5 seasons , so what is the point, and why she said she is going to destroy him? after what he did for her she want to destroy him? he give his life for her , does not make any sense , i'm only watching this show because of James Spader , and for the writer , please don't surprise us more than that, i will survive if i did not know who's real Raymond and after all this killing i don't care why he killed him , and the sister is suck, her father killed tom and they are getting alone, amazing fantasy.

Guilty pleasure
imperioaustrohungaro18 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
INTRO EXT. DAY NORMAL PERSON is walking along the street, bumps into ODD LOOKING PERSON. A moment later, NORMAL PERSON is writhing on the ground. CLOSE UP of frothy mouth, rash on body, uncontrolled bleeding etc.

TITLES

CUT TO

INT DAY ELIZABETH is with RED and the TEAM

RED: I must admit I am partial to a little Muskrat Chowder. A bit heavy on the celery on this occasion.

ELIZABETH: Why are you always hiding things from me?

RED: Because if we do things right, we might be able to drag this out to Season Ten. Meanwhile, I have a new case for you. A man the criminal underworld calls The Parking Lot Attendant. (points to newspaper). Last night a man was killed in a parking lot.

NAVABI: He had a bullet in his heart. We think that may have killed him,

HAROLD COOPER: Ressler, phone a doctor. Find out if bullets kill people.

NAVABI: He also had a piece of paper in his hand.

HAROLD COOPER: Agent Aram. Find out if the piece of paper had anything written on it.

ARAM: I'm way ahead of you. I have triangulated its coordinates and run it through a database, three firewalls and a napkin ring. It says: "The Parking Attendant Killed Me."

HAROLD COOPER: Agent Keen. Contact Semiotics. Find out if those words mean anything.

ELIZABETH (flicks a remote control to start her Powerpoint Presentation) According to Reddington, the Parking Attendant is an international criminal who has killed 247 high ranking government officials, artists and nuclear scientists over the past 55 years, which is why we've never heard of him until now.

CUT TO: various car crashes, bodies bundled into vans, and gruesome laboratories run by very ugly men.

KEEN: FBI, put your hands where I can see them!

UGLY GUY: They're not my hands, And there are far too many of them for you to see them all at the same time.

KEEN: What's in that suitcase, I mean duffel bag?

UGLY GUY: Bones that prove that this man who calls himself Reddington is really an impostor. The man whose DNA matches yours was the real Reddington, and the DNA that proves he was your father came from a bloodstained shirt that was in a laundry basket for 35 years. The DNA you carefully took from this guy was tested but for some reason you never opened the envelope to find out the results. He is not your father.

ELIZABETH: Oh good. That means I can kill him and become a feminist.

RED: You won't get the series renewed then. I'm the only good actor in it. Suddenly there is an EXPLOSION. An even uglier man plus five HENCHPERSONS emerge through the dust.

EVEN UGLIER MAN: Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.

Warning: Spoilers
I don't care who james spader is, i don't care. Just kill Elizabeth if needed to be. But this episode leaves u with so much question. If rr is dead, who is james spader. I knew something was wromg when he said no to liz's question about if he was her father and later said he never lied to her. He also never forced her to call him dad or whatsoever. But the question raises. Who was katarina deceiving? If RR is dead then why does james spader knows so much about him? His affairs, his wife, what happened that chrismas night, how? And why did everyone helped him even after knowing that he was fake? Like a bunch of people knew, almost everyone in the cabal. Just doesn't make sense. Another q, if he is not RR, why did he blasted away some random house in the begining of the series? He seemed to remember Jennifer! What role does liz's grandpa fit? Why does the naval officer recognize him if he wasn't RR? It just doesn't make sense at all. So many questions. Now the series got another mystry to solve. Can't wait to watch s6. But for gods sake creators, don't do anything with Raymond, kill every character u want just not him.

Good conclusion of the season
foamythefearsome21 November 2022
After Ian Garvey's conclusion, I assumed the season would be over. That episode felt very finale-ish, even though obviously they had not concluded what had been hanging over the entire season - the bag of bones. The conclusion was shocking and brings a ton of new questions for the series to build on, which was done well.

The only loose end for me here is the sister, who pops up in this episode again. I feel like everything was done so that she could find out Red's secret, but I don't really see why or when that became a pressing matter. Knowing the secret shouldn't really affect her life, but it ends up doing so. She's kind of a loose cannon, though; wonder what they're gonna do with that.

They are ruining it!
d-m-280-64909113 July 2018
This is starting to get really stupid. I only keep watching for the sake of James Spader which is basically "the show" without him it will be over in a heartbeat.

However, despite the fine acting of Spader, if the writers don't snap out of it do some decent writing this show is doomed to fail and lose its fan base.

Also, I haven't been a fan of Megan Boone as "Elizabeth Keen" in this show, but in this season she is really obnoxious and childish which is really unpleasant to watch. I do hope she get killed by the end of this show.

Why would he do that?
philfeeley21 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
While I like this show, the whole chasing after the dufflebag plot is getting more than annoying - it's distracting from writing good plots about the Black List. Why would he keep a duffle bag with the bones of 'the real' Raymond Reddington around for over 30 years - only to finally burn them? It makes no sense.

WHY THE DNA EVIDENCE MATCHED
noonieblount4 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Remember, the original DNA evidence of Raymond Reddington was in an evidence room for 30 years. So, when Cooper used it to compare against Elizabeth Keen it matched. If the DNA from the fake Reddington's bloody shirt had been tested against Elizabeth's then there would not have been a match.

Now, there are still a lot of plot holes but I'll only bring up one, will they ever address why the fake Reddington has burn marks on his back?

Also, as other reviewers have said and I've said since Season 1. I continue to watch because of three characters I enjoy the most; James Spader, Hisham Tawfiq (Dembe) and Teddy Coluca (Brimley).

Megan Boone is just not that good of an actress. I don't feel that even if they wrote her character in a better light, she would be able to pull it off.
