Missed Comedic Opportunity
Quinn407728 January 2022
A money-tree movie about learning about yourself and changing for the better. Sure, keep that in but give us a comedy and not...this. Sorry to be a cynic but this silly premise should involve the whole family and some shopping sprees etc. Not the tarp over the railing accident. Too do-goody, Hallmark style for me no not well done except for a few moments.

too abrupt
SnoopyStyle2 January 2024
The factory is closed and the town is dying. Top real estate agent Paul Campbell (Sergio Di Zio) is busy doing a lot of selling and covering up the cracks. He and his wife Grace (Claire Rankin) have two teenage kids and limited money. Her wealthy uncle dies and they are surprised by the meagre inheritance. All Paul gets is a plant.

This is apparently an inspirational Christian film. It starts with an interesting idea, but it goes nowhere fast. His actions don't make sense and needs much more setting up from the beginning. The car is really stupid. The change is too abrupt and I almost think that it's the plant's fault. For this to work, he needs to be a recognizable human being.

CANADIAN CRAP.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm Canadian so don't fire off insulting replies about Americans. This movie and almost all others being filmed in Canada has many faults. They are all easily spotted by their trademark signatures. They are cheaply made. The actors generally have less skill, that's first. The writing is weak and they don't consult experts for the story line. For example: "I'm Detective Miller and I'm arresting you because I think you've been engaged in illegal activity." Five-year-olds can point out the legal weakness in that stupidity. The director does not do establishing shots - too cheap to get permissions, so they zoom in on a corner of a house instead of a neighbourhood establishing shot. The music is weak, none of it requiring permissions, all original and weak. The editing is weak - scenes with no emotional punch drag on and on. Child actors with minimal experience. LIghting is crap, sets are crap, costumes are crap, locations are crap, and on and on.

These faults and many more help identify the source immediately to viewers. Where in hell does the money come from to pay for these poorly executed stories. The Cdn government pays for them to be made. That's right - money from satellite & cable subscribers gets forwarded (mandated by the CRTC) to film producers for Canadian content. It dies on the vine. The finished product goes back to the service providers - no first run in theatres, no sales on DVDs.

The people making this dogcrap need to know the truth about their product so they can change. Canada is making movies much the way a communist country would, and the result is just as watchable. And it's why anyone in Canada with real talent has to haul ass south of the border.

Disappointed
connerrd12 February 2022
It is always such a disappointment when a "faith-based" movie takes the Lord's name in vain.

The movie start off okay. The "dad" did seem to swear a lot whenever the pastor was near. The "dad" also lied a lot to his wife about the tree that she received from HER uncle.

I think it had potential, but I can't comment on anything beyond him taking the Lord's name, and that was shortly after he bought the riding lawn mower. I will say, that's an unintended funny scene. He's drooling over this "new" lawn mower, but it's clearly an old John Deere that's just been painted red, but the seat and underbody are still green. *It was just funny to our family.*

Amateurish, annoying, and logic-free
tracyberna-221 June 2022
I feel strongly that whoever wrote this movie must be from another planet, because they've clearly never met a human before. NOTHING anyone does is what an actual human would do, ever. People shrug off and bizarre behavior with a chuckle, never asking questions as our protagonist runs around raising screaming red flags. Speaking of which, the protagonist is a selfish man-child with no regard for anything but immediate gratification, yet he has friends, , a hot wife and a happy, generous family who put up with him for no reason, and are completely unlike his Scrooge-y self. Eventually the film piles on a preachy message out of nowhere --subtlety is not what this film does best, or at all. AVOID at all costs.
